Post game thread - BU 68 isu 72

Agree, its so much better when both teams are good! Im not sure if I can handle a rematch in St. Louis!

I don't want to play them again. They're too strong inside. I know that the saying goes 'You win with guards', but I think that's under the assumption that the bigs can at least hold serve. I'm not sure Salley, Singh, and Austin can hold serve with Slack, Odiakosa, and Sampay, especially when the best guard on either team is on ISU.

Haven't been to a game in Normal since before Redbird Arena. Couldn't handle the crap they gave Bradley fans. Looks like things haven't changed. I always said ISU was a Division 1 team with Division 3 fans.

Those were great years, Chico!

Young, uninformed fans nowadays have diminished the rivalry to be sure...

wasn't King O's hair a treat?

The ISU fans couldn't have been worse than the Illini's. If they were most offensive, OE is most explosive...in the conference. And he'll only get better.

While TW once looked out matched when he got to the hole (not any more), SM looked lost this time.

Welcome Downriver

OE is a great talent, and if he stays, he will only get better. But he does sometimes hurt ISU, like he did in the second half of the Drake game. He took a number of bad shots, and played a little too wild.

whining

whining

Alot of whining on here about a foul call here or there. There was a lot of missed calls on both ends. In the first half we benifited a lot from no over the back calls on offensive rebounds. Also a lot of moving screens. This isn't the reason we lost the game.

I would speculate you didn't see the 2nd half of the Drake game.

He took 4 shots total in the 2nd half (he made 2 of them-1 3 ball and 1 steal and layup) the 2 misses were a runner in the lane and a missed jumper from the wing. If anything he didn't shoot enough in that game especially in the last 5 minutes when they needed his offense.

I agree that his decision making at times is poor and he does sometimes take ill-advised shots which hurt the offense, but the Drake game Tuesday was not an example of those times.

I agree with you I'm not sure I want to see them again but O is the best guard on either team? Sure he maybe the best guard if your not going to worry about passing, but he has no where near the court vision or distributing skills that Ruffin does. Don't get me wrong OE is a great player, but he's not the best guard on either team. Ruffin is probably the best guard in the conference. And I'm not even a huge Ruffin fan.

Good to see "Phantom's" perspective on Redbirdfan.com

"BU fans are absolutely pissing & moaning to the Nth degree in their postgame thread about our fans, specifically our students. Despite my best efforts over there to explain certain things, they are in full on gripe mode. Good to know Red Alert is really having an effect "

I guess we see a different side to Phantom on our board.

Hey they finally won a game, let them celebrate. The great thing about having class is that we have it and don't have to worry about defending our fans.

Just my opinion, but from what I have seen of DC in recent games, I think that the combination of Slack, Odiakosa, and Sampay would have completely out muscled and out positioned Collins.

Again....how is this worse than them shooting 93% against our other three "bigs"?

I clearly heard on TV the BS chant on a couple of fouls on ISU. Even one of the announcers acknowledged that the fans didn't like the call while they were chanting it lol.

Jason

Exactly! I heard on television as well and the announcers did in fact mention it! Guess someone has selective hearing?

What a long thread! Frustrating evening in a game we should have stolen. Forget about missed shot, inside the paint, the three things we should have done which we do well that did not happen:

1) If we hit our FTs we would have been in the game to the very very end (ISU hit theirs)

2) We had them in bonus, the refs were calling touch fouls on both ends of the court why did we ever settle for fadeaways or for that fact jumpers? I believe if we would have driven in a lot more it would have opened up the outside and got them in some serious foul trouble. This alone if done we would have won easily. DR and JC were getting inside, TW was playing well but AW for some reason got lost for extended periods. I'd like to see him drive in sometime draw the fould then settle for a jumper from the corner.

3) JC played a great offensive game but was a step slow on D and without the enforcer in the center he was exposed a bit. That's not his fault he played with a lot of heart every minute he was out there. We should of played an agressive zone every now and then especially when the shot clock was downt to 15-10 sec and they needed to inbound. When we did play a zone though we allowed them to dribble in  for an easy basket.

I'm not sure Salley, Singh, and Austin can hold serve with Slack, Odiakosa, and Sampay,

Bradley is going to lose the inside game against anybody in St. Louis. The nice part is that ISU's big men don't play much defense either. It's one of the few teams that Bradley takes the ball to the basket against. It was nice to see Bradley in the game with only six three pointers made. I would look forward to a rubber game against the Redbirds.

Maniscalco looked timid in both games against ISU.

Because putting DC in the lineup would have resulted in even more points in the paint than what they scored and the percentage may have been even higher with DC on the floor. --DC's defense isnt very good and his D is worse than MS, SS,and RA. Also, ISU's bulk inside is not a good matchup for DC.imo I hope he proves me wrong, but I have yet to see a reason why DC should get significant minutes for the rest of the season.

Maniscalco looked timid in both games against ISU.

Agreed, I'm a huge SM fan but I thought in both the ISU games he's not been as aggressive or on top of his game, timid is a very good word. I wonder if it's not because he grew up in a BU household and is intimidated by the match up. I doubt it actually, but just a thought

i sure hope jl can get a difference maker for next year because i dont see maniscalco doing well against these guys in the near future.

Couldnt disagree more.. SamM may have been timid for a couple of games, but his near term and long term prospects should not be a concern.

What games have you been watching. He is having an amazing freshman campaign. By all rights he should be MVC NOY. He's a freshman and your judging him on one of the most intense games you can play in. He'll be fine, Maniscalco has the intangibles we haven't seen on the hilltop for awhile. He's has been a huge part of our recent run, what more would you want out of a freshman?

Well said amckillip. I couldnt agree more. I'll say it again, Sam Maniscalco reminds me very much of a young Jim Les. We need more players with Sam's basketball IQ.

I don't claim to see alot of BU ball but watching SM last night, he displayed a tough, bull-dog like energy that will serve him well on defense and being a play maker. I wonder about his development as a future scorer. I don't ever see him being a Ruffin type player.
