Red-White Scrimmage

The entire Peoria Irish AAU team was there with their coach- Bradley is not recruiting most of those kids
 
Da Coach already provide a great recap just wanted to add my two cents.

Chet was great, I was able to get a piece of the Fieldhouse floor I had signed by him. I have plenty of Chet "The Jet" Walker mini posters if anyone needs one. The full size Walt Lemon Jr. poster is FANTASTIC! Great large picture of Walt going up for a dunk with the full schedule on the side.

Lemon Jr. and Pickett are both primed for BIG years.

I really believe Jordan Swopshire and Xzavier Taylor have a chance to be special players at BU.

Ready for the season to start!

anyway - I think the fans (and I agreed with Da Coach that the crowd was way smaller than hoped for maybe more in the 600-700 range) saw what we've been seeing since the team prepped for the Bahamas..
This is a tall, athletic team that doesn't consistently shoot well. They are going have to have pound it inside and I hope we don't have a lot of those games where we go 1-7, 2-13, or 2-16 from the arc - as we seem to ready to launch from deep early in the shot clock.

Walt will be fun to watch, Tyshon will be tenacious, but JP as somewhat invisible last night. Xzavier was energetic and getting things to happen around the hoop (6 pt/6reb). Nate Wells probably still won't play much but I liked his presence down low that definitely changed shots.
Despite the hype - I can't see where Fields & Grier (the two guys that were hyped as difference makers by our media) are going to be the difference makers. I think the keys are the new guys - Swop, SZ, XT, and the juco guys.

Lastly - thanks to Chet Walker for making it for the game - too bad it couldn't have been a packed house for the ISU game with 10,000 people honoring Chet - most of the people who actually saw him play (in the pros) - or who were at Bradley when he played here - are the folks who fill the lower bowls (gray hairs) regularly but many don't make it to a scrimmage.

Tornado and DaCoach both say roughly half that.

I wasnt able to attend, but thats a huge difference...Not like 10K to 11K, even though thats a difference of 1000 people yet only 10%...You guys are saying a 50% difference from what the JS beat writer reported. Just curious, even though it doesn't really matter, I think most BU fans are just excited for the season to start and are thrilled with the state of the program
 
we counted butts in the seats - and one of the arena personnel told me early on that entire sections in the corners flanking the band were set aside for students - probably meaning several hundred students were ticketed and expected to be there...guess what -- they weren't - the student crowd was 50 at best.

anyway - I didn't spend much time describing what we had to sit thru to see the men's game...
The BU women's team got thoroughly killed by a bunch of kids who looked like the supporting cast of Saved by the Bell... so many bad passes, airballs, and missed shots..
If this was the best they could show the fans - they should have done it behind closed doors - that display is not gonna boost ticket sales.
The 7-29 shooting that was in the newspaper stats was generous - I didn't think it was even close to that. in a fast paced, fast-breaking game --
no possession lasting more than about 10 seconds - to make only 7 baskets in 20 minutes of play was pretty hard to watch.
 
When it started it was probably in the 750 range. By the time the men started we were up to closer to what Dave reported I imagine. It did fill up more over time.
 
My estimate was based on an actual count of butts in the stands at the time the men's scrimmage started. Also, I talked to several people who planned to leave after waiting in the line to see Chet, and were not planning on staying for the scrimmages

You say you both counted butts in the seats, yet you report different numbers and you say "estimated" and "maybe"

Not alot of credibilty and then of course DR is reporting nearly double the number that you report. :roll:

And Im not looking for an argument, I am just looking for a clarification. But as I said earlier, its not that big of a deal but just wonder how there can be such a discrepancy
 
BUBeam - it's a message boards - take what you want - The butts in the seat varied because some people didn't arrive 'til late and some left after seeing their hero Chet Walker...
.... the BU Red-White used to routinely draw 2500, and even as much as 3500 & 4000 -
the crowd last night was 1/4 of that - if it bugs you then take it to the people responsible - don't shoot the messenger.
I was there with guests - sitting right behind the men's bench supporting the team - were you? A lot of people who regularly call themselves top fans were not...
 
btw - the front row pictured on the last page in this thread - is a premium seating row of 50 seats - all of which are completely sold out for every game at RC to premium season ticket holders who occupy them for every event at RC...many of whom make it to every women's game...but last night only four of those seats were occupied by the ticket holders - all the rest were filled later when all the recruits and visitors were escorted down there to enjoy the great seating.
Also noted by both Da Coach and I was that fewer than a dozen or two kids were there - pretty much just the Sahr kids and the families of a couple of the coaches...and a few fans...
again, this even used to have hundreds of families with kids ages 2 to teen - the late start has killed that off completely...
Try as the spinmeisters might - it was NOT as good crowd... Bring back the old format - men's scrimmage as a stand-alone event starting way earlier than 9PM -
make it 6PM for discounted pizza or hot dogs - something you can walk around with or head to your seats - then a good game at 7PM without the contrived skills contest..
and how about bringing back the DUNK CONTEST - don't tell me fans and players alike wouldn't love it..
 
The end zone sections were completely empty except for the band. The sideline sections were no more than 1/3 filled. That comes to around 800 fans, just what I counted. I am not sure why you want to squabble about 2 people's counts/estimates that differ by only 100 fans.

For the record- last year's Red-White attendance was reported to be 1,700 (which IMO is more than were actually there, too), and the 2011 Red-White was reported to be 1,800. So regardless of who you believe, or whatever your agenda is, the attendance was significantly down, despite all the promotions, multiple mass email reminders, the Chet Walker appearance, the timing of the event in the midst of homecoming with hundreds of alumni in town, and hundreds of tickets given away free to students. I can assure you the Bradley people were very disappointed in the turnout.
 
Guys, As I said Im not looking to argue, and whatever the attendance figure was does not bug me. I was simply wondering how DR reported "before a crowd of 1302" and you 2 counted anywhere from 6-800 at various times of the event. Thats it

I have no "agenda", Im not trolling. Furthermore there is no denying that the attendance figure, whatever it was , is down. I don't know why, because as you said there was plenty of promotion etc.
 
This decline and the decline in attendance at games (and I have heard season ticket sales this year dropped again) has to be concerning to all BU fans, especially since, by all the accounts we are reading, the team is getting better each year, is much better and more athletic this year, and adding "impact players" and drawing highly rated recruits to our games. What is the problem? What does the administration need to do to stop losing fans? Even in bad years in the past, there has been far better fan support than we are seeing now.
 
As I said, I have no answers. What do think the administration needs to do to attract more fans? What can the administration do? Who's responsibility is it?
 
1. Regardless of what the actual attendance was, it is hard to compare anything at RC to anything at the Fieldhouse or Civic Center. It's clear the BU nation doesn't really want to go to the RC, so you need to compare apples to apples. A more relevant comparison might be the ratio of regular season game to scrimmage at the RC and when we were at the Fieldhouse. I have no idea what those numbers are, and really don't care.

2. Recruits at games don't impress me. Commitments do.

3. Was Pross the same old Pross or is he better?

Well he did have a new ear ring in and a new hairdo.... I think we will be seeing plenty of Xzavier Taylor. As others have already said his offensive game is not were it needs to be yet but he is very active on the boards and on defense. I for one am very excited to see what XT can do over four years at BU!
 
Prosser looked the same to me, which will not satisfy most Bradley fans. He is a 5th year senior, and he needs to be more of a factor. I'd like to see him step back and make some mid range jumpers. I saw him do that in high school, and he did it very well. But I could count the number of times he's done it at Bradley on one hand. His scoring and rebounding numbers dropped off last year, and I think we'd all like to see them go back up at least to where he was 2 years ago, maybe even more.

But the big question is, does he still drink milk? That's the most important thing to know. :)

Prosser will have a better year...I thought he looked better and the addition of all the new bigs will help him...he doesn't need to be all conference...just solid and I believe he will be that..

I agree with you on XT...I was impressed with him...what an athlete! if he has a love for the game and a solid work ethic...BU fans will love this guy...
