Reynolds "Changing Coach, Changing Minds"

Gotta see who the new hire is, and then give that guy a shot to retain recruits and current players... GOTTA BE A GOOD HIRE!

We have not won the Valley tour. since it moved to StLouis, it has been way too long since we contended for first place, will never forget our great Sweet 16 run in beating Kansas and Pitt, if Bradley expects to keep our great fan base and get some of the younger people to attend their games then they need to get this hiring right because this town is hungry for a winner and winning brings you sell outs.

Not sure I understand the... someone might" take the job without visiting Bradley" ....shouldn't that be an important part?

With the news breaking a day before Bradley intended to release it, much needed to be done before BU could issue its own news release.

It's a little disappointing that administration wasn't prepared for this. I'm not sure why they didn't have a release prepared in advance knowing that once people were met with the news was bound to leak.

They were trying to do the "classy" thing and not send out the press release until the day after the tournament ended. That almost worked.

Recruits will have to meet the new coach and make their decision based on that.

Bradley needed to make the move, and the administration knew they might lose players. Obviously, they felt the need for a coaching change outweighed the risk of player defection.

Have we not heard from Jim because his exit package is not done? I hope he can get past this and understands the chance he was given by BU and stays as part of the great history of BU. I have a great deal of respect for him but it could go to a new level if he called our recruits and our current players and told them Bradley is the place for them. This is Jim's college as a player and a coach, its been a big part of his life, he should set pride aside and do the right thing. Easy to say but hard to do, I am not in his shoes so its for me to say what he should do.

What is the right thing for Jim to do.... and why put the pressure on his side? How about the president should do the right thing.

The main thing that I take from this article is that Dr Cross is the "fall guy" if this hire turns out to be bad! Sorry Dr Cross, but we know where the real decisions are being made on these matters.

I don't know -- but in many contract situations and disputes...one or both sides do NOT keep their end of the deal...
that's why we have an entire area of law called "contract law" and endless suits get filed continually over contract disputes.
Lawyers love it......

Wouldn't most buy-outs include a clause about the coach not speaking out?

I have also heard this. It is best for JL and Bradley to separate following the firing.

As far as the article, use of a hiring firm sounds like a good move as it will keep the search as private as possible, which was a problem during the last coaching search. I find it encouraging that there has been a good amount of interest in the job this quickly. Cross has been saying all the right things IMO, and he will hopefully make the right decision on the new coach. 10-15 days seems fast.

Yes, 10-15 days does seem fast. It's important to take time to get the best guy in here, as this is an investment for the next 5-10 years hopefully, and that if he leaves, it will be due to upgrading his position to a more high-profile program.

The only reason that the decision might need to be made without too much delay is for the players. If they belabor the process, kids might get antsy and seek other options so they can feel comfortable and know where they're going by the end of school (late April?) I would hope the decision is made by mid-April at the latest.

Depending on who stays next season, we could be pretty competitive starting next season. If not, then I expect the new coach to take us to a Valley contender by the 2013-14 season.
