Sam Singh Year 6

I like having Sam back. He isn't great but you know what you will get. He knows the system, doesn't make mistakes, and he is intelligent.

He will be the odds on starter and should get 20-25 minutes a game. If he can produce 7-8 points and 5-6 boards a game then that would be great. Bradley wasn't going to get a JUCO guy to do that.

Good job Jim and Sam. Congrats.

So SS has been here only 2 years less than the head coach of the team...and much longer than the assistants...haha he will definitely be a "coach" next year

Wow... congrats to Mr. Singh. It's rare to get a 6th year.

I would think with BU being a school that "The NCAA is out to get", they would not have granted this.

In any regard- congrats!

Let me first say that I am happy that Singh is coming back...I think he has intangible qualities that will be very valuable for next year's team. He is a guy that will be far more prepared to contribute from day 1 next year than any JUCO or HS big man would that we could potentially bring in with his scholarship...

That being said, Sam Singh is what he is...a decent role player. Let's not get carried away with what type of player he can be next year or exaggerate how big his upside is. He does not have the skill set or athleticism to be an "odds on starter" or a guy that should be getting 20+ minutes a game if you are a team that has any aspirations of contending for a Valley title or an NCAA bid.

What we need is for Egolf to be healthy at the beginning of the year and for Prosser to show that he is capable of playing 10-15 quality minutes per game as a freshman...If you can get 20 minutes a game from Egolf, 10+ from Prosser, then you have Singh there to give you a decent 8-10 minutes per game...that would be the ideal mix, IMO.

Sam is a big body...he's a smart player...he knows the system...and he's a great guy in the locker room and off the court...these are all great things, and it's good for the program that he is coming back...but if we want to take that step forward next season and finish ahead of teams like Creighton (Lawson, Walker), Illinois State (Odiakosa), and UNI (Eglseder), then we need to have our higher-upside post players (Egolf and Prosser) getting the bulk of the minutes in the post next year, and Singh just needs to be the stabilizer that fills in and does his job when needed.
Well ER3, you sure give a very good story book tail for next year, with who will play and how much. But I think Sam will have something to say about how much he will contribute. But if it turns out the way you think and we win the MVC, I bet SS will be the happiest guy on that team:!:
Next year is going to be good and I am glad SS will be a big part of it:!::biggrin:

Well you would figure DD and SM would return as captains and that leaves room for only 1 more. Like I said in our preseason captain debate...this is a good indicator of our team and the type of players we have since we all can't agree on who should be the 3 captains....

Wait a second here.

The NCAA didn't screw us or Sam over? What? I guess we're not mid major anymore! :)

Singh is a known quantity. An optimal use for him would be 12-18 minutes a game off the bench, providing foul trouble relief, hustling, and being a system guy. He's a known quantity, and with the turnover of college basketball rosters these days, you treasure your known commodities who can provide positive value for your team.

With no freshman coming in to take that scholly, might as well welcome Sam back.

.. nah, just a makeup call for Wilkins..

seriously, I was also very suprised that the NCAA made SS's decision so quickly!

Who said it was done quickly? I bet they put the request in last summer!

Who said it was done quickly? I bet they put the request in last summer!

according to the published story, they said they petitioned about a month ago, and asked if the NCAA could render a decision before senior night, and the NCAA actually did.
