Let me first say that I am happy that Singh is coming back...I think he has intangible qualities that will be very valuable for next year's team. He is a guy that will be far more prepared to contribute from day 1 next year than any JUCO or HS big man would that we could potentially bring in with his scholarship...
That being said, Sam Singh is what he is...a decent role player. Let's not get carried away with what type of player he can be next year or exaggerate how big his upside is. He does not have the skill set or athleticism to be an "odds on starter" or a guy that should be getting 20+ minutes a game if you are a team that has any aspirations of contending for a Valley title or an NCAA bid.
What we need is for Egolf to be healthy at the beginning of the year and for Prosser to show that he is capable of playing 10-15 quality minutes per game as a freshman...If you can get 20 minutes a game from Egolf, 10+ from Prosser, then you have Singh there to give you a decent 8-10 minutes per game...that would be the ideal mix, IMO.
Sam is a big body...he's a smart player...he knows the system...and he's a great guy in the locker room and off the court...these are all great things, and it's good for the program that he is coming back...but if we want to take that step forward next season and finish ahead of teams like Creighton (Lawson, Walker), Illinois State (Odiakosa), and UNI (Eglseder), then we need to have our higher-upside post players (Egolf and Prosser) getting the bulk of the minutes in the post next year, and Singh just needs to be the stabilizer that fills in and does his job when needed.
