SS had to of dressed last year. Did he really not play at all?

Last year, the team really teased him about finally making the conference season, and kinda treated him like glass as he approached the conference season..

Based on his post-game comments, I'm sure he'd gladly trate starts/ PT for wins. But both is the best of all to him..

I really hope Jim sees how much better this starting lineup and rotation suited his personnel. Salley was simply not the guy this team needed starting at the 5 and logging major minutes there. He's undersized, playing out of position, and not as talented as any of our other big men. Sam is a true 5, and even if he fouls out in 15 minutes, he should be logging those kind of minutes against just about anyone in this league. Last night's lineup was our best of the year, as was the big man rotation. Stick with it Jim, it looked great!

I also see sam singh as a piece of the puzzle. I agree he's much more suited for the 5.
Sam & Matt looked real GOOD together on the floor.

I know I have posted this before....but after meeting SamS and talking with him at the BU team camp, I came away with a respect for him as a TEAM player and person.....he has worked so hard to be able to simply play....can't be happier for another player.....keep it up Sam!

He proved that if he posts up down low and we are able to get him the ball he can score; he may not be a super star but he does the things that can help a team win; he is a good role model on how he has overcome many injuries to get where he is today.

You never see him out of position and he knows just how far out of the paint he needs to go to be effective. He is a heady player that makes the team that much better. For once we had some power in the paint. GO SS!!!

Good for you Sam Singh!!! You are finally being appreciated as the most fundamentally
sound big man that we have. Keep setting those big screens and rolling towards the
basket to relieve the pressure on our wing shooters. Rebound and score within your game
and you will log lots of minutes the remainder of this season.
This kid can really help us around the basket if he is allowed to log some playing time
and get used to his role on this team. His recovery is a great story with what I hope will
be a very happy ending for him. Good luck Sam!

Lookin Up-

I like your assessment of Sam, I agree completely. Although his physical abilities might not do exactly what he knows to do and how to do it, I think the brains outweigh the brawn in this case. Like you said, let the points come to him, take the easy points, take what comes his way, and don't force it. Focusing a little more on being smarter with his positioning and "use" less of his fouls and he should log more than 15 mins.

This is also good advice for the other big men; athleticism can make up for some knowledge deficiencies, but if you are blessed with the athleticism, knowledge will only make you better.

I hate they keep using Wilson as a big.....let him stay at 3 and get Austin/Collins to spell SS and let Salley play 4. Or just let Salley, Singh, Austin and Collins rotate the 4/5. I think JL falls in love with the mismatch Wilson can cause at the 4 like Boogie did but I think it wears him out to much.

I believe Boogie usually played the 3 with JJ starting (with Sommerville and POB as 4 and 5). Sommerville usually played 35+ minutes a game, so Boogie could not give Sommerville much rest.

When Ruffin returns that will eliminate someones minutes, probably mostly SM but I have a feeling he will play quite abit and at either the 1 or 2, if he get more minutes then he did before Ruffins injury that is going to have to eliminate someone elses minutes.

If you play DR at the one, SM at the 2, do you move JC to a 3 and then have Wilson at a 4 or does AW share minutes at the 3 with JC?

DR coming back will be great for this team and will help with the distribution of minutes, and will give JL more options. I just hope he doesnt fall back in love with the smaller players at the 4 and use Salley at the 5.

Tyrone Cole-Scott is the odd man out after Ruffin's return. Sam should still be logging 25-30 minutes a game spelling DR at the 1, but also AW and JC. The big man rotation should stay the same.

DR returning will hopefully only mean the guards can go from really, really heavy minutes to somewhat more manageable minutes, and staying fresh longer. Adding one player into an even mix will not reduce everyones minutes to say only 20/game 4 guards in 120 minutes of positions (1-3) is still a fairly large 30 minutes per guard per game.

In the 1-3 spots we are currently only playing 3 guards + TCS, so our guards have to average way more than 35 a game.

30m /game is still on the high side for a fast paced pressure D, but much, much more manageable with a better chance to stay healthy than recent games where the 3 guards were all playing 37+

Not to disrespect TCS but I really hope his minutes eliminate, and that JL doesnt go back to a small line up with trying to get by with Wilson/Warren at a 4 and Salley at a 5 and play a rotation of JC, Ruffin and SM at the guard positions.

But all of this is cart before the horse. We need Wednesday real bad. We can worry about Ruffin when he is healthy and ready... hopefully for sometime v ISU next week :)

Agreed. It's time to go 4 deep at guard, and 4 deep up front. DR, JC, AW, and SM in the backcourt with SS, TW, RA, and MS up front.

Sorry DC. I'd play you over Salley, but he's obviously doing something that you're not. What it is, I am not sure.

Not trying to be sarcastic here, but are you serious?

Yes I am serious. Based on game performance, and the team's +/- when each is in the game, I have no idea what Salley brings to the table. He's average on defense, weak on offense, not very smart, and is a terrible foul shooter. Again, it must be something to do with effort/execution/attitude in practice, because you cannot find a reason that Matt Salley should play over David Collins. But also as I have said, I thought our bigs rotation was great on Saturday, and am of the ilk that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
