SIU's Anthony Booker transfers to Iowa State

Hmmm...Booker was unable to score in the post against Valley bigs, so he thinks somehow things will get easier in the Big 12?? And he blames "style of play"?

I have seen him play no fewer than 10 times and I don't think I have ever seen him score on anything more than a putback. He defense footwork leaves something to be desired as well. Yet another example of someone aiming way too high.

Iowa State is badly in need of bigs, but I can't imagine Booker being any more than a 10mpg backup.

Booker's two year stats vs. midmajors is only 297 career points so far and 5 ppg, 3.7 rpg averages. He also has a total of only 26 career assists in 59 games.

But one quote from Booker stumps me...
"The 6-foot-8, 230-pound power forward is leaving Southern Illinois after
two seasons mainly because he feels his type of game fits a different style
from what he played with the Salukis.
"I had a great relationship with Coach (Chris) Lowery but what I realized
after two years is that I didn't think I fit his style of play," said Booker."

.......seriously???? SIU has had a slow-down, low scoring, defensively-oriented STYLE OF PLAY for more than a decade....
and it took Anthony Booker close to FOUR FULL years - those years he was in high school and being recruited, and those two years he was at SIU --- FOUR full years - including TWO full years of actually playing in the system...
before he finally concluded that this style of play does not "fit" the "type of game" he has??

What the hey -- is this guy dense....??
He goes on to say that Coach Hoiberg at Iowa State
"said that they are going to play a more open and up tempo style of game and that is what I have come from throughout my entire playing career."
Amazing....so he sees himself as the type of player that would do best and flourish in an up-tempo and fast paced style, but he never noticed SIU plays 100% the opposite style and so he chose to go there anyway...

BTW -- Booker's tweets are way worse and fouler than anything ever seen in this area...

tweets about teachers are about as offensive to me as casual talk about teachers...
but even casual talk calling people by the names and racial slurs that Booker uses are offensive..

Oh - and one more thing...

Anthony Booker - ranked Top 30 nationally - 6 ppg, 4 rpg last year
Taylor Brown --- not ranked anywhere - nobody ever heard of him coming out of HS - 14 ppg, 7 rpg last year
I can see why you want to try to change the topic...

You are a fan and I understand that but a Braves BB player could rape your mother and you would find a way to spin it positively. Bookers twitter is truly juvenile and is offensive but when you have a player who is just as stupid, it seems silly to point it out.

Tornado - 1
saluki - 1.5

My bad, I forgot I was on www.fairandbalancedfans.com, I mistook this for www.bradleyfans.com. Go read your own board and its hypocrisy before criticizing ours. BTW, TB has stopped his twitter, it was one event, and something was done about. Bookers is constantly like that and no one seems to care. So rather than nit-pick one little thing that's similar, how about we focus on the complete and utter implosion that is SIU basketball.

Neither of them are saints and can be defended for what they did with their "tweets". Lets hope they both grow up and TB can be MUCH more responsible with his tweets, the Braves need him.

I don't expect fair and balanced but I am free to comment on it as I am breaking none of the board rules. I will definitely spin it in SIU's way as well. That said, I would never spout off about another teams player getting a DUI as SIU fans have no room to talk when it comes to that.

I will give you some positive spin. SIU is only losing a player who averaged 6 and 4, won't be a blow to them at all. His production will be more then replaced by Gene Teague and even with another losing season, Teague will still have as many NCAA tourney wins as Taylor Brown and his 14 and 7. In the end, aside from getting a degree, that is all that matters.

SIU - guy -- when you can name anyone who gets nailed with felony charges at Bradley - or even one guy whose offense was so bad that it is actually even still on the books...then I'll pay attention...
(all of the BU guys had such minor issues that they were given either deferred prosecution or supervision and the charges were either not pursued or they were expunged)

SIU actually had two guys on the roster simultaneously who were facing felony charges..one of whom they went out and even recruited after the charges forced him out of his last school.

I don't deny BU has had a few issues but they have all been punished way stricter than any other Valley school does it....
and BU has had nothing of the magnitude as other schools --- recall that on the very day Ryan Hare played in the game against UMass (11/12/08) he was in court earlier that day for the trial for his underage drinking arrest...

That's serious discipline and obviously it blew up in CLo's face to be so easy..
we saw the same thing at ISU when Sampay had an underage drinking and DIU and was practicing the next day despite Jank saying he was completely suspended from all team related activities, then he started and played every game - no discipline at all.

Don't forget the infamous chant... POY=DUI...

I like TB's chances a lot more than Teague's. Oh, and on that degree thing, I'll take BU too...

And just loosing Booker? What about Mr. Basketball 12.5 ppg, 5 apg Kevin Dillard?

Didn't Kevin Clancy transfer/get booted due to beating up/hitting his girlfriend.....didn't Ruffin get into some serious hot water with a women.....didn't POB and another get suspended for improper benefits.....didn't Taylor Brown seek out and punch a guy at his place of work.....hasn't he been suspended 3 times for various infractions...didn't a couple BU players get busted for illegal consumption....?

WHile we can argue the severity of various offenses at various schools BU is not immune to players behaving badly much like most any other campus in the United States.

Its a disturbing trend and I hope it stops everywhere. I applaud BU for the discipline they are usually quick to set forth I would love to see the day when they don't have to even hand out anty punishments at all.....

THIS year would be a good start.

I understand some like to toss stones from their glass house but I often wonder why as the day will most likley come when one of those stones comes hurling right back at em.....

Quick, twist minor incidents to sound as bad as possible...

I will have to claim ignorance on the Clancy incidents as that is before my time closely following BU. But DRuff (who by the way, I do disdain) did not really do anything wrong, let alone commit a crime; POB (and WF, I believe) did inadvertently receive and extra paycheck from a company they were legally employed by; To say TB sought out a person at his place of work is a frigging joke. That 'place of work' is central to campus and TB spent an upwards of 25 hours a week practicing there, and by all means, I would have punch the dude too knowing the details of the incident. And yes, two players did blow below .08's but because they were under 21 they got tickets. Underage drinking? I'm sure you don't know anyone/didn't partake in that?

Dogs, trying to portray these incidents as anywhere near bad is preposterous. Plain and simple, BU runs one of the cleanest and strictest programs around. Want JL fired for not winning a championship, say the sweet 16 was a fluke, and say we should have hired someone else, but don't try to make it sound like he doesn't have good control of his players. I know you're trying to be the voice of moderateness here, and I normally applaud that, and I don't think tornado's shot at Booker's twitter was necessary, but it frustrates me when people try to act like BU isn't arguably the cleanest program in the MVC (that's competitive).

I do agree with your point that we shouldn't throw stones, I don't think it it's a good idea, but I do guarantee that if we were to never have said a bad thing about ILSU, SIU, Wichita, etc. that those boards and Valley talk would be all over us.
