TCS' Shot

I think TCS needs to understand that his roll isn't as a jump shooter coming off screens. If he does this he will be fine. He is still outstanding at getting to the rim, he just needs to finish once he gets there. I think if he plays good defense and provides a slashing threat he will play a big roll on this team next year.

Didn't Larry Bird shoot like that?

Ya, I think someone said that earlier, but it's obviously not getting the job done for TCS. And just because Larry Bird, one of the greatest all-time, shot like that doesn't mean it's a good idea for TCS, he is on a whole different level then any player in the college game today.

I made my initial post about WE's shot this past Dec 5th:

I wish Wilson would shoot more as he is 6-14, a .478 percentage from beyond the arc. To me, both AW and WE shoot the 3's with too much arc. Also Will rocks back on his shot. Larry Bird is the only player I've ever seen have any success with that kind of motion. Well, I guess Larry Legend can negate my theory all by himself.

As you can see I mentioned A Dub in this post, too. However, Drew does not rock back and does the "other" offensive things such as taking it to the hole.

AW = Smooth

AW = Smooth

I have to say AWs stroke and shot seem effortless. With JC out of the mix next year, I'm looking forward to a few 30+ games by AW and his rainbow 3s. He has the ability to make it happen.

I just read the whole thread because I also think his mechanics are bad. But I think you all missed the worst part. His elbow flies way out to the side when he shoots. You can never be consistent if your elbow flies out because it never goes out the same way twice in a row. Almost all great shooters have ELBOW IN as close to their body as possible. TCS, if you are reading this... ELBOW IN!!!

You are absolutely right. I guess I figured that if they corrected the part regarding him coming across his body that the elbow issue would resolve itself. You are correct though. Elbow out = shot missed.

Hey BB,

Maybe all this valuable shooting information will help you as you are "working on your jumper!":)

TCS also sets his feet at an angle instead of pointing the puppies directly at the rim. This goes along with what everyone is saying about shooting across his body. If you watch the great shooters, they always set the feet. That was always the amazing thing about Redick...no matter how hard he was coming off a screen or what direction his body was flying he always managed to set the puppies.

What bothers me more about Will is his absolute lack of intensity. There was a loose ball top of the key against Ohio and Will was right there.....staring at the ball. Its like he was afraid or clueless as for what to do.

Sorry to be so rough but here's an idea....go after it like its gold. Dive...bang into somebody. Will brings no, none, nada bit of energy, hustle or, from his body language desire.

Why that clicks with some and not with others Ill never know.

Sammy is the classic example. He is an absolute bulldog. It was a problem for him early as he was a bit to fast but with time he has maintained his energy while playing under control.

You would think Will and Collins would SEE that first hand and take it up a notch.

Here's hoping they find that intensity over the summer.....BOTH WIll and Collins can still be contrbutors to this program.

DogsRUs. There is hope for Will. He is a freshman. TCS and Collins--not so much. Collins was absolutely awful versus Ohio U. I just don't see how he or TCS figure into Bradley's plans next year. Guys very, very, rarely get good between their junior and senior seasons. They already have habits that will be really tough to change/break.

Does anyone else here think about what the players or coaches must think if they read what a bunch of old, out-of-shape, wannabes here on this fan site say the players and coaches should do to improve their shot, improve their warmup, or improve their games?

The players/coaches who read this stuff have to be ROFLTAO. :)

You're right but you don't have to be athletically gifted to know what a proper jumper looks like. I've seen a lot of pure jump shots in my day and TCS' isn't one of them.

I'm not sure what to make of this. Are we not allowed to have opinions on ways guys can improve? I'm sure the coaches identified long before any of us on here what these guys need to improve on, but that post sure sounds condescending. I guess TCS and Will should keep doing what they're doing, and we should just pat them on the back and say 'good job'. Obviously it's working for both of them. :confused:

I also think this post is kind of a shot at some of the posters on here who have actually played basketball at a high level and/or who have coached at a high level. I also didn't see anywhere where a poster said that they had all the answers to these players' problems. Again, I am sure we would all agree that the staff likely identified these and any other issues long before us fans did. I saw these comments as fans observing some fundamental flaws with some players and makings suggestions to fix them. It's been done on this board ever since its inception. We pat our posters on the back for being knowledgeable Bradley fans and knowledgeable basketball fans (which I think we all are to varying degrees), and it seems like that post is essentially slamming them saying that they don't know what they're talking about.

Disagree somewhat... Rabey bad jr...good senior. Jerome Robinson...ok jr...fantastic Senior...to name a couple of the top of my head.

Certainly there are exceptions. However, Rabey and Jerome were actually playing significant minutes as juniors. It wasn't like they went from never playing (Collins and TCS) to double-digit scorers. Rabey and Jerome were at the least part time starters their junior seasons.

Anthony Slack, Boo Richardson, and Dom Johnson certainly made significant improvements as 2nd year juco players over year one.

In all fairness, they played better as Juniors than TCS, but you could certainly use them as examples of the improvment along with the Jeff Rabey example.
