we do have the extra scholarship (or two) - maybe there's still a point guard out there?

Welp and just like that I wish we had that other combo guard I felt like we needed.

Have meta call another Serb.. petrovic from Illinois still available.

Still have a roster spot available!
And there are still guards available at the juco level, in the portal, and from overseas. The coaches are probably looking at what's available.

One other possible source to consider... the closure date for the transfer portal has passed., but there are a couple exceptions, such as for players on a team that has a coaching change. Michigan's coach just left, and although I don't see Bradley being a likely contender for any possible transfers from Michigan, there is a possibility Michigan might hire a successful mid-major coach, like they did with Dusty May. If that happens, there could be some new names emerge.

Excellent assessment Da Coach. There's still a chance for good news.

Obviously this is terrible news but Coach Wardle has said consistently that DR is going to be one of his point guards this season. I've watched more film on Payton than any other new player and he can absolutely run the point as well - he took the ball up more than anyone else for APB last year. Their offense had a ton of motion to it and once the halfcourt offense was established, he played on the perimeter as a ton as their best shooter. I see no reason that he and Dietrich couldn't get the offense rolling.

I have no idea who this extra player could be so that could change everything but with the roster constructed as it is, this gets more minutes for Grill and Seastrunk. We can easily forget that Jackson averaged 18+ PPG in high school so we shouldn't write him off as a guy who couldn't step in to a bigger role especially after a year of being around the program under his belt.

I looked at the NCAA release closely and the fact that he got injured now actually works in his and Bradley's favor. It's still awful but it's better it happened now versus in October, if it had to happen at all.

Expanded thoughts on all of this: https://bubraves2006.substack.com/p/gerganov-goes-down-with-season-ending
I'm not not sure if this is true...

Georgi's date of birth is July 22, 2003.
According to the NCAA eligibility guidelines, his 5-year clock would begin as soon as the next academic year begins after his 19th birthday.
Thus- in fall of 2022, his clock began and it runs out in fall of 2027.

So if he does not play this year, he may have no eligibility left at all and may never play college ball.... UNLESS...
and I would hope he could still apply for a special waiver but NCAA is kind of hinting that's a longshot.
I guess time will tell.

I would not count on him ever playing college ball.

If you read BUBraves 2006 file he indicates the students enrolled in 2026-7 school year they have the option of using the old eligibility rules or the new ones. If that is correct (and it looks like he did the research) that would give Georgi options.

2006 cites this NCAA release- https://www.ncaa.org/news/2026/6/23/media-center-division-i-adopts-age-based-eligibility-model.aspx

but we still do not know how many seasons Georgi could be docked for playing overseas. That has not been revealed.
If it is 2 years and now he takes a 3rd year off for injury, then he'd have two years left.
If he's docked 3 years, he'd have just one left after the redshirt - any more than 3, he'd appear to be out of eligibility.

Georgi has played FOUR seasons in the 2nd tier pro league in Bulgaria (BBL A), plus
three more in the top pro league (NBL) - and nobody has any idea how many of those seasons will count
against his college eligibility - but certainly not all 7, as he was still an amateur some of that time

I saw his note about that, but I first looked for that, I couldn't find a reference to confirm it. But a deeper dive does reveal that appears correct.
Georgi's class enrolling in 2026-27 can choose the old rule (4 years of eligibility in 5 years) or the new rules (5 years of eligibility starting at graduation or age 19).

For students enrolling full time in college for the first time in fall 2026 and current student-athletes with eligibility remaining after the 2025-26 academic year, Division I schools will apply the previous rules (allowing four seasons of competition within five years) or the age-based model, whichever results in the most favorable outcome for each individual.

FWIW-- one of Georgi's countrymates, Alexsandar Gavalyugov from Botevgrad, Bulgaria, (same city where Georgi's pro team plays)
& played on some of the same teams as Georgi played on in the past over there, then Gavalyugov came to the US and was injured
right off the bat and missed almost all his freshman year.

His numbers in the top league in Bulgaria were not even as impressive as Georgi's -
then Gavalyugov came back this past year for Santa Clara and had a fine season- 9 ppg, 2 rpg, 3 apg, shooting 36% from 2-pt

from a source.... Georgi relates that he is expecting to get an injury waiver (redshirt) and
"run it back with Bradley next year "
He also appreciates the support from the fans as he reads the message board
I hope he comes back. We are all disappointed he can't play this year but I am sure not as disappointed as what he is
