Thanks crowd

He was on the floor for WCU, Loyola, and SIU, and those are the 3 games that have ruined this season....

Ruined the season?! You need to add "so far" to your statement BB. :)

This season is still VERY young. Most good teams get on a roll at some point and, hopefull, we one will as well. I will, however, agree that it may be a "ruined season" if by the end of January we are still struggling and losing games that we should win.

For the fourth game in a row our horrible crowd blew a double digit lead in the second half. You would think 8000 people would be able to guard the 3 point shot. Also nice job yelling out for SS, EM, JE and a still hobbled DSE to be on the court at the same time for a long stretch in the second half. Worst decision I've seen by the Carver Arena faithful in a long time. Not to mention half of you wouldnt stand up. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. PATHETIC!

I like the "tongue and cheek" tone of the first part of your post, equating the crowd to "bad" coaching even though the crowd and the coaching staff aren't out on the floor actually playing the game! :D I don't know if that was the true intention of your post, but that's the way it comes across to me.

The more serious last part of your post I could not agree with more. I know the crowd is not obligated to stand up, and I don't expect those who can't to do so either, but at least let the ones who want to do so without telling them to sit down! Some fans are so "prim and proper" it's pathetic!

Very young? We're nearly half done!

I should have added "Conference Season" to my statement. Besides, at this point, that's all that really matters. It's our only hope:rolleyes:

As I said in another thread, or maybe this one I am not sure, if we don't lose another home game this year then last night was a step. 8-1 at home in league play would be darn good. But from what I have seen thus far, I can't see us winning out at home. We're talented enough...but...let's just say I would love nothing more than to be way off on this one. It's happened before!

There is very, very little evidence suggesting we would have beaten BYU or WSU even with TB on the floor. He was on the floor for WCU, Loyola, and SIU, and those are the 3 games that have ruined this season, not the games TB missed.

Thus, the "could" in my post. We really don't KNOW either way.

I don't see it either...Not the way the team is currently playing, but just like you, I would also love to be dead wrong.

I could see us going 8-1 at home at the end of conference play. We seem to have a habit of playing at the level of our competition with the real exception being Iowa St. I think they will all be really close games but I think that Bradley will have a chance to go 8-1 if we can just find ways to finish the games.

I have noticed this as well, and the understanding I can gather from personal experience are three things:

a) lack of focus

b) lack of mental toughness

c) laziness

Right now, I believe we are seeing various combinations of the 3 from just about every player...

The only players I do not see this from right now are Chris Roberts and Jake Eastman.

I would say DSE as well, but he's only been back 1/4 of a game.

I guess I'm lucky because when I'm in town I sit in the front row with no one in front of me, but if I wasn't and there was no reason to be standing I would ask anyone to sit down. I stand and cheer, as does my section, when I have something to cheer about until the other team calls a timeout and oops here comes the announcments, so shut up crowd. I wish the band would play right over them for once. As I said before, the ones who want to stand the whole game should have their own section. Doesn't make you a better fan just because you want to stand the whole game.

This post made me think of something that's bothered me the last few home games. The previous two, PH announced that the team was on their way and the band played the fight song in it's entirety before the team stepped onto the floor. Then last night the pregame highlight video is still playing, PH announces the team is on their way, and the team comes onto the floor while the highlight video is still playing over the top of our band playing the fight song! Just something that's annoyed me these last few home games as there shouldn't be any excuse for any of it.

Might I say again that I don't particularly like the pregame video or intro video and music...

Doesn't really give the crowd any extra momentum, even those of us who want to scream and cheer.

But it does make you a worse one if you don't, at least in terms of being at the stadium. I say if you want to sit the whole time, even when standing and cheering is the RIGHT thing to do, you should really just stay home. You can still enjoy the game on TV while the rest of us actually try and make a difference and help the team. Cameron(duke) should be the model...no one sits anywhere near the court...guess what their home record is??!!!

It seems to me sometimes its more a lack of heart then laziness. Just going through the motions like they've earned something already... i know a lot of blame goes to the coaches but it doesn't help when the coaches want to win more than the players do...

I'm very encouraged and happy with the way to came back to pull out the win last night and love what we showed in the OT. But the memory of us handing over a 16pt. 2nd half lead, missing free throws, watching our supposed PG hand over the ball again versus a press and seeing us play unbelievably scared and tentative when they made a run at us still overshadowes it for me.

Everyone does understand that if they convert the gimme lay-up after Sam's TO with under a minute and if Marshall doesn't fall down after starting his drive at the end of regulation too late, we lose that game and everyone is on meltdown overdrive right now, right?

Maybe we did turn a corner like coach Les said, but it's gonna take us playing a few complete games, not just salvaging what would have been a collosal collapse against a league bottom feeder to win my trust.

....and if Marshall doesn't fall down after starting his drive at the end of regulation...

we can speculate if we want, but there's no guarantee if he doesn't fall down that they score...

maybe had he not fallen on the ball, then the ball squirts loose, Sammy recovers and goes all the way for a layup and gets fouled intentionally from behind (and this time they call it) -
so we get 2 shots & the ball then convert a 3 pointer on the next possession -
.........thus Marshall falling on the ball turned into a tremendous break for them - saving a 7 point swing in our favor!

Crowd Apathy

Anyone know how many BU alums are in the Greater Peoria Area and how many of them make up the crowd at a typical' BU home game? With fewer and fewer BU alumni staying in the area after graduation, is the local active fan base declining?

For non BU alums, non BU related people, or transfers to Peoria area, BU MBB games are more a night out social event, not a life or death situation. This may explain the lack of total crowd support when things aren't particularly going well with BU or the opponent isn't considered 'big time'. A BU game is also a discretionary expense for them - and the economy/local employment picture is not real good right now for the 20-40 year old population in Peoria area.

When I was still in town, it seemed the crowds were made up of pretty old folks, which can also explain the apathy and early departures - WGN news at 9pm might be more interesting than the results of the BU game for folks who go to bed by 9:30pm... On the other hand, I also saw second/third generation BU fans there with their small/grade school age kids who want to get their kids home and in bed before 10:00 pm.

Demographics (and economy) may be affecting the size of the crowd and intensity of the support at BU MBB games...Just a thought...

Young man, I've been going to Bradley games since before you were thought of and didn't miss a game until I retired and now I'm enjoying warm weather but missing watching the Braves. I've probably been to more road games than you have home games. If standing the whole game would make BU as successful as Duke, I'll gladly give up my Winter golf and stay in Peoria next season.
