We need a petition dirve to change the MVC's name to help its recognition as a BIG conference. Here is my try:

I've got the winner....
The Big Power Conference.
My guess is CBS and ESPN would sue, because it seems only they have the right to decide what is and isn't a power conference. But I like it!
There was a lot of love down in StL for the MVC with the sold out crowds. Elgin's done a great job, but he's got a LOT of work left. I hope he's howling the next few days. Reaching the semifinals in all the other "power" conference tournaments is good enough. (Ex: Illinois). Not in ours.
Finally, the RPI can RIP. KenPom is now off my "favorites" list because RPI means nothing.

As much as I like the concept of the Bracket Buster, I do think the MVC might have to pull out. If the MVC has in fact seperated itself from the other mid-majors, then it can only hurt. Because the MVC's 3rd-6th place teams will be playing the top teams from a myriad of conferences - and the top teams are obviously good. It's more like the MVC takes on the rest of the Mid-Major World. That Dog won't hunt.

Don't Blame Pomoroy for the RPI. He only reports it. In fact, he has a blog entry from Feb stating the the RPI has lost it's usefulness, and based on the committees selections today, I wonder why we even continue to use it.

yeah, that really doesn't sound too bad.
Except for the fact that one of the things that hurt our conference this year was the strength of the bottom teams. I actually don't care about that, but some people would say that having a couple of weak teams in conference is good for you.
I, for one, am all about having the best teams in conference as possible. That said, Indiana State was once a very good team in our conference... so I don't know that we should run them off.
There are some teams I'd like to have in our conference (though I don't want to expand or really run anyone out)-- Loyola-Chicago, DePaul, SLU, Butler would all be teams I'd like to have... Would love to have Tulsa or Cinci back, but since we don't do D1 football (or football at all) they'll never come back. I don't expect any change in our conference, and don't know that I want one anyway.
Does anyone know if there's an upper limit on max number of conference games? I don't want to add a team at the cost of making the schedule unbalanced.

Indiana State beat Butler this year.
While it would be great to add the Indy and StL media markets, I don't think this trade would necessarily help us. It wouldn't make us a power conference except maybe more in the eyes of the RPI -- and that's only if Butler can sustain its success. And we all know the RPI no longer matters. It also might add to in-conference cannibalization, which would likely hurt.
The problem is not the bottom of our league, which was incredibly strong this year. The problem is perception and the "haves" not wanting to give up any of their advantages (TV time, home courts, recruiting edges, etc.) to us middies.
So we'll just have to outwork them, and root for the Valley teams in the tournaments. That will get us headlines.
And I still like renaming us the Big Power Conference.....

Maybe Memphis is getting tired of being the only big fish in the Conference USA pond. We could invite Memphis and invite Tulsa back. We could divide the conference into a North and South, (or East and West) with 6 teams per side. More or less like the big 12 or SEC. You would only play some teams from the other side once.
