Tyler Les

I have never seen Tyler Les play but when he was a kid and he would shoot around and dribble before BU games in JL's early years he handled the ball better then any of our guards at that time.

Regardless, I am a big believer in Pedigree. Guys like Eastman, Les, etc who have fathers or even mothers who have played the game or coached it tend to have a much better understanding of the game. They tend to make team oriented plays and are often better skilled players.

If Les has an interest in playing at Bradley, there is absolutely no harm in that happening. If the kid is winning 3 pt contests and is playing AAU with competitive teams and his father is a former NBA player I dont care who is "better" in Peoria... Ill be happy Tyler Les in a BU uniform.

I have a feeling his game is likely very good and at 6'2 and he can shoot it, with I guarantee great handle of the ball, well just because someone can jump center or runs fast doesnt mean they have overall Basketball skills needed to compete in a competitive D1 game. None of this even mentions what I would guess is a very mentally tough individual.

Great shooters will always get interested D1 offers , I will always choose a coaches kid because he is usually fundementally sound, Crouch was not a fast player and look how he turned out, there is always a place for a player that can shoot the ball well and Tyler has one more year in high school to improve his overall game.

.....Tyler is not the "athletic type" as DSE, Theron Wilson, or even Jordan Prosser are... but he makes his presence known by his smarts.

How would you compare his athleticism to his father's?

Remember, no one knew or thought much about Jim Les coming out of high school. His determination, work ethic, and (I imagine) later physical maturity made him into a "player". A lot of physical and fundamental skill gains can be made between a kid's junior year in high school and sophomore year in college.

The fact that the kid is taller than and already shoots the three better than his old man says a lot. He may be a much stronger and better player by the time he's a college sophomore. Go get him Jimmy;)

If he is truly a chip off the ol' block, and by all early indications he is, he would be a player very much in the mold of Maniscalco. What I see is if he ends up at BU, he will likely spell McCain at PG first, and then take over for Maniscalco in year two.

By reports he also has a little bit of attitude and swagger and can back it up.

Thanks. I had some free time last night! :D

I assume that's MK bottom left? Kinda hard to make it out. Interesting the builds on these guys. They all look like strong, well-developed kids. No chicken legs in this group. Seems rare for frosh.

I have no idea if Tyler Les is a D1 player. I have never seen him play basketball. But I would never put an ounce of weight on guys who won three-point shooting contests.

That's not a knock to Tyler or anyone else whoever won one. He could be the greatest shooter in America for all I know. But whether or not he won a goofy three-point contest means nothing.

There are TONS of great shooters out there and in the state of Illinois. It takes a lot more than that. Hopefully for Tyler Les' sake he has the other stuff. I have no idea either way. I've only heard reports from people about him but I have no first hand knowledge.

and shooting 74% from 3-pt range for the entire 2nd half of the season also meaningless...

Nope. Its not meaningless. I didnt say that. I said I dont put weight on guys who win three-point shooting contests.

If a guy shoots 74% from three-point range in real games then yes, I would put weight on that. But I wouldn't on a three-point contest. They are two entirely different things.

You know they aren't the same things. A contest is just that, a contest. When guys make shots in games it means about 1,000 times more to me.

The fact that Tyler Les made 75% of three-pointers is eye opening and impressive. But winning three point contests isnt.

High school stats and even early college stats can ALL be meaningless... (see Sead Odzic)

I really don't get the argument here - it's a no lose situation in my book for all parties. As I understand it TL can play for BU without using up a scholarship and would basically be filling a walk-on's spot. If he pans out, great for him & BU and if not, he still gets a free BU education and can go on to be whatever he wants to be.

Truthfully it's been long enough since JL went through BU that only the lower bowl fans and a few of us hometown guys can remember or make comparisons. So he will get to stand on his own merit. JC was a darn good shooter his Jr year in HS but had a bit of a push shot and the majority of his interest was because he was 6'5". Sounds like TL is a strong shooter already and imagine him as a 6'3" Soph shooter at the 2, whether it be in the starting line-up or off the bench. Wilkins will be running the point then anyway (ala Magic Johnson - tongue firmly in cheek).

Romar--I don't think anyone is arguing. I think everyone thinks it would be a fine move if Tyler Les walked on at Bradley. I haven't seen anyone dispute this.

I think people have discussed how good a player he is. That seems fair. But I don't think anyone thinks it is a bad idea.

If he turns out like Tony Bennett at UWGB playing for his dad or Bryce Drew at VALPO playing for his dad I will certainly take it :)

So much smack from some for a player that would not count against the scholarship grid! Can't imagine anyone disagreeing that this is simply an ideal situation so why even complain. I hope Tyler is reading these threads and comes to BU and quiets his doubters. I would bet without any injuries that TL will be a great contributer to our team. Pedigree baby! I really just do not understand the negativity by some.

Well, I guess I got some answers! I was just curious about the consensus on him. I want him to play at BU, I was just wondering if we should expect him to get significant minutes or start at some point in his career. I guess we will wait and find out!

this situation reminds me of the molinari situation.

both les and molinari great shooters but neither have that much besides that. just like molinari, les will not get much d1 attention, les will only get like d3 attention like molinari did. and then because these kids really want to go d1 for some reason rather than getting playing time at d3 level, just like molinari, les will go play for his dad. les has one advantage over moliarni in the pg play. molinari couldnt get recruited by division 1 because he is a short 2 guard. les will have advantage that he will be fine size for a d1 pg,

les will end up at bradley.

im not disapproving these kids decisions to try d1, but i think there is a problem with kids now a days thinking that going d3 is not good. kids say "oh but thats only d3." college basketball on the d1,d1,d3 level is good no matter which level. only the best players play college.

I'll go WAY out on a limb here....

I will be more happy with TL's contributions to Bradley than BM's contributions to WIU.

I guess the jury is already out! Geeez! Last I heard is that the Molinari kid is a pretty good ball player that given a bit of time he should make his dad's team better and proud by the time he graduates.

I remeber there was this kid at Drake last year who was even a walk on at one point. There were tons of naysayers and he proved a bunch and I mean a bunch of people wrong. Oh and that kid from Davidson! Come on you negative nellies, I'll take your opinion once I see you strap on some laces or are involved in this sport making a living. ;-)

nobody said molinari isnt good, but just saying he isnt d1 talent.

and molinari has already made his dad very proud. graduating on time and being a stand up guy will make his dad proud.

currys situation at davidson was completely different, how can u even bring that up? curry was recruited by a number of d1s, just not big d1s. molinari was only recruited by wiu. also curry was fast and had other skills besides shooting.

For every feel good story that a player proved everybody wrong, there are 1000 stories that are stories were the player proved everybody right.

by the way sfp, i will lace up my shoes any day of the week you want to play some hoops. I was known to score a few points back in my day

as far as molinari vs. les i think les has better chance of getting playing time since he is a pg

but both will surely learn from their dad and maybe both become coaches one day since neither will play pro basketball
