Walk-on

A transfer from a D-1 or D-2 school would still have to sit out for a year right ? Even if they were a walk on ??

I don't think I transfer from a D2 would but I'm not positive.

If it is a transfer from D2 up to D1, then there is a required 1 year wait to be eligible. Even if they are a walkon.
If it is from D1 down to D2 or D3, then they are immediately eligible.

however if they are granted a release from thier existing program couldn't they play right away. I remember there was discussion when Danny Granger left that we would not release the 1 year probation period.

No. The release by the previous school only allows the new school to award a scholarship to the transfer. He still has to sit out a year. There are no exceptions (the only exception was the new rule this year that applied to graduated 5th year seniors who transferred to do post-graduate work and had a year of eligibility left. But the NCAA recinded that rule when coaches complained it was being abused).

Granger would have had to sit out a year whether Bradley released him or not, but he had to pay his own way for that year because BU didn't release him.

C'mon. I need more hints.

I agree I keep checking email and the board hoping for some light on this issue, and nothing. I need BU BASKETBALL NEWS!!! BTW I am pretty sure I check this board religiously even when I am not expecting news, it just makes it more nerve racking when I am.

That would be great, but I guess he wouldn't qualify as a Gavin S. type? If that's all it is why are we so excited? How about Jeffrey Jordan?...Not local. HELP!!

I don't think anyone that knows the identity of the guy that is the rumored potential walk is expecting that he would become a star at BU or anything... It's just that he has the ability to be significantly better than the typical walk-on guy that we see at BU that is basically just a practice player/13th or 14th man.
The Danny Adams and Gavin Schierer comparisons are fair, I think.

Gavin Schaier is a spot-on comparison to this kid. If he could develop into that type, by his senior year he might be scholarship-worthy.

Lance Stemler comes to mind as a comparison, too.
