This was the final game of the regular season and now the playoffs begin

Addendum-- right now Reink Mast is starting to lite up on Euro Twitter trending..

we will have to wait to see how Rienk's game translates into playing at the DI level at age 18...
but there's a LOT to like watching him play with his European team...
He is a legit 6-9, he jumps center and outjumps 6-10 guys, he runs the floor extremely well and is
always the first upcourt forcing defenses to scramble to get back....and he can defend anyone on the floor, mobile enough to cover a guard and bog enough to defend their post players
and he has a nice outside shot - as I noted elsewhere - he's been shooting 3-pointers at a 50% clip over the past 2 months
He's 1-2 from 3-pt today -

Donar leads after 1st quarter 27-12...looks like Donar showed up to play! Remember, this is a best of 3 games series so getting a
big lead right away is very important!

edit- update - midway thru the 2nd quarter, Den Helder calls another timeout with Donar blowing away to a 39-12 lead

I like Rienk Masts' game. In the MVC, every team has good guards, but the distinction that separates the successful teams usually is the quality of the big men and their ability to score. The teams with the best and most offensively skilled big men, IMO were Loyola, ISU, Missouri State, SIU, and Drake (not necessarily in that order. No surprise those were the top teams in the MVC.
I believe the one single most important factor that helped Bradley down the stretch, made them competitive with the top teams, and propelled them to the MVC Championship was the improvement and consistency of Elijah Childs. He became nearly unstoppable in the MVC Tournament, despite frequent double-teaming. So Bradley needs to keep trying to land players like Eli to sustain their successes. I see a little of that in Rienk Mast. But a lot more of the names in our recruiting threads are similar types of players than in the past, so it's nice to see our coaches target the bigger recruits who can score. :)

Game is a massive blowout...
halftime Donar 52 - Den Helder 20, Donar hitting 57% (22-38 ) and 6-12 from 3-pt
All ten Donar players who have entered the game have scored and the scoring is remarkably even & balanced
Rienk Mast has 7 pts and 2 asst, 3 Donar players have 8 pts each

as always seems to happen in these Euro leagues, a couple players have left the Donar squad (Dendy, Wall) and it appears they only have 10 players.
Their roster does suggest three of their junior players are with the senior squad, but they have played very little at this level.

The next game in this series will be at Den Helder. The Den Helder Suns are based in the city of Den Helder which is out on a peninsula
in the extreme northwest of The Netherlands about 60 miles north of Amsterdam- and about 100 miles to the west of Groningen.

Final score
Donar 102 - Den Helder 52
Rienk didn't play much in the 2nd half as the reserves got lots of time
and he only took one shot in the 2nd half so he finishes with 7 pts

Rienk Mast news....

-Rienk was named 4th best performance for the week in the Netherlands' TOP PRO league weekly awards
"Other top performing players last week: ...
4. Rienk Mast (203-PF-01) of Groningen - 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists"

https://www.eurobasket.com/Holland/...ble-double-lands-him-Player-of-the-Week-award

- Donar's next playoff game is today, it will start about 12:30pm Central time
Here is the link to free video streaming of the entire game - https://www.rtvnoord.nl/liveextra
(if the link is inactive, I will try to find an active one at game time)

-here's a link for live stats for today's game - https://www.fibalivestats.com/u/NEBF/1143974/

Donar Groningen is currently playing as well as any team - even recently beating the very top team Leiden
(who they will face if they advance to the next round of playoffs), 85-82 with Mast scoring 18,
and Leiden has dominated the league all year at 31-3. But Donar doesn't really have a STAR player - they do it with good team play.
If you check the league leaders only two Donar players show up in the top 10 of any stat category...
There are no Donar players in the top 10 of scoring, assists, or steals.
The 10th best rebounder (Thomas Koenis at 6.9 rpg) is from Donar, and Koenis (0.6 bpg) is 7th in blocks.
In fact, the TOP SCORER for Groningen ranks #32 in the league in scoring...Rienk is #42 with his average of almost 10 ppg
Rienk is #25 in rebounding.

well, whattya know - that live stream link is not working - I kinda feared that..

but I found another one - funky camera angle- Donar is DARK BLUE - Rienk Mast is #15 in dark blue

Donar raced out to a 15-6 lead but Den Helder scored the final 11 points of the 1st quarter
so the score at the end of the first quarter is
Den Helder 17 - Donar 15
Rienk Mast has 3 pts, 2 rebs

WARNING: - the sound stream is about 3-4 seconds ahead of the video stream so the sound of the whistles and the fans cheering are a bit distracting since they do not match up with what you are watching.

end of 3rd quarter
Den Helder 55 - Donar 59
Rienk Mast has 11 pts on 5-7 shooting in just 14 minutes, plus 4 reb, 1 asst

Final score Donar 75 - Den Helder 69
so Donar wins the series and advances to play first place Leiden

Leiden also swept their first round so they will host Donar next Thursday May 9

Donar's semi-final series against Leiden starts today - 8 pm in Europe but it will start at 1pm Central Time

** Rienk not starting with the senior Donar squad..he is now in the game at 4:12 left in 1st quarter
..and he immediately nails a 3-pointer

edit Donar trails by 8 at half

Donar makes a tremendous comeback and wins Game-1 of this series 77-76!

They trailed by 10 much of the 3rd quarter then hit 4 consecutive shots late in the 3rd (2 from 3-pt) to take the lead...
Then they needed to rally again late in the 4th quarter - coming back in the final 90 seconds from down 74-68,
then closing it out with FTs.

Rienk Mast finished with 7 pts in 17 minutes on just 4 shots and added a couple rebounds

Game-2 of the series will be Saturday May 11

Donar leads after 1st quarter, 15-13

update- halftime Donar trails 38-35 -- Rienk has not scored, only taken 2 shots but has a game high 5 rebounds

3rd quarter score - Donar jumps out to a 10-point lead...
58-48 - Rienk has 2 pts but adds 7 rebounds and has done a good job defending Leiden's big men,

they are 10 minutes away from taking a 2 games to none lead in this series against the #1 seed Leiden

I am thinking I am going to love watching Bradley basketball even more next year with these new guys coming in!!
