Wessler 12/30

I think that this thread shows how naive some people are. If some of the posters on this thread knew what really went on with athletic departments around the country, they would appreciate what we have here!

So if JL told KW to keep DR's injury out of the paper, which btw that is what JL wanted, do you think KW would have complied? JL had no other choice! Anyway people, calm down this is only a sport not life or death.

It's one thing to tell someone to keep it under wraps. It's totally different to tell a bold-faced lie.

OMG--this is the craziest thread yet.....

This isn't a moral question--this is coaching strategy. Why should Les have told the press any truth and give the compettion more of an advantage.

Lie Lie Lie---so what. We all knew what the deal was -- or do you think Les should have called the coaching staff at UNI and gave them the heads up?

CRAZY

THANK YOU inMNbob

This topic is completely insane. Why does anyone care that JL said he would not rule out Ruffin... maybe he really believed that, but even if he didnt why is it now a moral issue? So what he didnt tell the local paper about Ruffin or that he didnt announce that Ruffin was not going to play. Maybe just maybe no one had told him directly that Ruffin wasnt going to play.

But more then likely he didnt feel the need to let UNI know anymore then they needed to know.

Just because we all invest our time money and heart into our program, it does not give any of us the right to know every single thing that happens with Bradleys program. And you know what if he wants to lie and it allows us to have any sort of advantage then that is great.

The PC's are mad big deal.

So if you say we all "knew what the deal was," wouldn't UNI almost assuredly know that too? The odds that Ruffin was going to play weren't good. So if everyone knows, then the lie becomes a question about Les' integrity. It makes him look really shady, IMO.

Also, SFPete, I realize this is a sport and not life or death. But it's also not the CIA, which is what JL made it seem like by not being up front about the injury.

No bull! :( You said it Bob and Ben. You can really tell who the "journalists" are in this thread

At what point does the "anything to win" theory cross the line?

I mean, why not put small audio recording devices in the visitors locker room? If no one knows, what's the difference, right?

And seriously, let's stop pretending like 24 hours notice is enough time to really implement some other offensive scheme. You people act like saying Ruffin isn't going to play gives away our play book.

That's a great example to set for a group of college students.

You are absolutely right. It is a great example to set. No matter the outside influences you have to do what is best for the group. You are completely naive or have never dealt with the media before if you believe everything you read in the papers.

The "anything to win" theory goes along with coaches keeping jobs. Bottom line is if you want to keep your job you win. Plain and simple.

Longtime have you ever seen an NFL injury report? Every key player is a game time decision or probable for every game during the NFL season. Why is this a big deal when it happens for every game for every sport in the country?

LTL, you call this an "anything to win theory"???????? Oh my god you make me laugh out loud with that one... I never played division 1 sports, but I know first hand of programs out there that lure players with prostitutes, illegal drugs, massive alcohol parties, money to family, friends, and girlfriends, cars, steroids coverups with police reports,.... I could go on an on and on but all this is an attempt for anything to win... Not a minor statement made by JL in the local paper.

This thread is way too pc and naive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He kind of calls out Coach Les on his honesty. Pesonally I dont think its so bad for a coach not to disclose the status of an injured player before the game starts.

http://www.pjstar.com/stories/123007/KIR_BFBNAILN.077.php

Well, Wessler should know better that the reason a coach doesn't disclose these injuries right before a game is that they don't want to tip off the opponent. Lovie Smith does this a lot, but he sometimes goes overboard because the injury report comes out long before the games anyway. But with two to three basketball games per week, why risk having an opponent prepare a game plan knowing their opponent's key player is injured? Let the opponent gameplan for one scenerio, then let them adjust on the fly when they find out at the last second of an injury. That way it will give the team with the injury an advantage....Well, at least in theory of course! ;)

Edit: Well I just did read his article, and he did mention that he might have done it to keep UNI offguard. But then he still called Les out for his "dishonesty".

Way to go Kirk! Mr. "Kneejerk" media guy strikes again!

I think Jim should have gone out of his way to tell Kirk that Jeremy Crouch had a thumb sprain to his shooting hand, that Sam Singh had a bad week of practice and wasn't going to see any time, that Brian Lavin had grade difficulties and wasn't going to dress, that Rashad Austin was going to see his first significant time of the year, and that BU would sprinkle in some zone to go with their usual man-to-man defense. Maybe then he wouldn't be portrayed as being so unscrupulous.

Thank you and well put....we ain't talkin WMD's here. My goodness...a "bold faced lie". LOL. Whats his motive to lie....YIKES. JL doesn't owe ANYONE except his team the straight poop and quite frankly....IF he didn't give it to em for motivation or team psyche its his perogative.

I wonderhow bad UNI would have beat us had they prepared to play us without DR?

You know...I can see KW's point here. It's not like there was any concievable way DR was playing Saturday and I'm guessing there was a pretty good indication there was going to be surgery before going to NJ too. It's one thing if he's really iffy but he's having surgery for crying out loud..he's out for awhile.
I don't think it's the worst thing in the world but I think many coaches would have done it differently.....

HUGE difference between cheating and keeping team personel info private. We are NOT acting like keeping the Ruffin info did anything at all....we are simply saying JL has NO reason to disclose anything at all about his team to anyone. PERIOD.

Which is their perogative.....JL chose to do it this way.

After thinking about it a little more though..will you believe what JL says about a situation in the future?.....if so why?
I'm not saying he should or shouldn't but I can see where it could hurt in the future

Coaches do not disclose injuries all the time so it is no big deal and if anyone thought Ruffin was going to play yesterday without hearing the report then they were in denial as we all new his injury was going to keep him out for awhile.
