I don't know about anyone else but I will have to direct the majority of the blame of this loss on the coaches. What was JL thinking?? There was 10.5 secs. left and you mean to tell me that we dont' do a full court press! We let Drake bring the ball down with ease to get a shot off! Not to mention BU has a 7 footer & 6'9" player sitting on the bench! What's wrong with this picture??! I would have had both big men in to block the shot and pressed at full court not giving Drake any chances of getting a shot off! AW & MS came with their game faces on an played hard. Also, why would JL have TW inbound the ball twice after he made a bad inbound pass and Drake scored off of it?! It was hard for me to see at times from the video feed, but it appeared that Bradley was getting a lot of bad calls as well. Someone else tell me if there is something wrong with this picture? Did I actually read the stats right? AW & MS lead BU in rebounding??? BU has NO inside game..Hmmmmmm that's all I have to say about this game. Final Grade BU players B- Coaches D-

Not sure I would press fullcourt...but would have someone picking up defense at 3/4 court to take some time off......would have had one of those two bigs in....SamS or DC.....

So, let me get this straight...You wanted Les to bring in Will Egolf and David Collins for that last possession?...two guys that haven't seen meaningful minutes in a month?...simply because they are tall? That would have been your suggestion? Wow.
You do realize that once Drake saw this lineup they would have moved Cox out to the 3 point line and Collins would have been nowhere near the rim to block any shot...and whoever Egolf got matched up with would have been the guy that took the ball to the rim...and I'm guessing the end result would have been a far easier bucket than the heavily contested miss that we got out of Emmenecker in the last possession. If I had to guess how your lineup would have played out, Houston or Korver would have beat Egolf badly, two guys would have switched over to help, Collins would have turned his back on Cox to watch the play and Cox would have ran straight to the rim and ended up with an uncontested dunk.
Yeah, that would have been a far better way to end the game.
Our lineup at the end of the game was bigger than Drake's and it was the right lineup to match up against them. We had two clear shots at a rebound and we failed miserably on both. But having Egolf and Collins in the game would have likely assured the fact that there would have been no missed shot to go after.

We had the right players in the game at the end of the we just didn't come up with the rebound.This game was lost in the first half we could of put this team down by at least 10 points but we kept making mistakes and they just hung around till the end.

Agreed. We got a lot of breaks in the 1st half and either missed open shots or made silly turnovers (most of them by TW). In the 2nd half, we had a chance to end the game with a stop or two when we got up 7, and instead fell asleep and saw that lead dwindle to 2 in about 10 seconds. IMO, the game was lost when that lead was lost. You could just feel it. Drake simply wanted it more.

All Wilson did was turn the ball over all night I'm not sure that was a bad move the smallist guy on the team leads the team in rebounds shows you don't have to be big to rebound you just have to out work the other player.Our post players are lazy have of the game.

That being said you only need 2 or maybe 3 guards in that situation, and I do think another big being in could have gotten the rebound or altered one of the shots they put up.

Size doesn't mean as much as some think when it comes to rebounding. It's about boxing out and going to get the basketball. BU turns and watches and waits for the ball to come to them. Other teams don't, and that's why we lost last night, and that's why we're 1-5. Same story, different day. The only question is how long this sad story is going to last.

I agree with you about effort-- though I did also mention shot altering which size is important for. Also, size IS important when it comes to being able to box out. Either way, part of my reason for mentioning RA there was that he always seems to be high energy and very aggressive, in addition to being pretty big.

The downside of putting RA (with his aggressiveness and high energy) into that spot is that it is more likely that he would have have made a bad mistake out of aggression...He might have over-pursued the ball, lost his man, or committed a terrible foul by jumping on someone's back.
With 10 seconds to go and needing a stop, you need to have 5 guys on the court that you have the most trust in to not have a mental breakdown, to not blow their defensive assignment, to not get lost on a switch, to not give up an easy bucket...Austin, Collins, and Egolf definitely do not fall into that category right now.
The 5 guys that were on the court at the end of the game were the guys that Les has the most trust in...and they did force two misses...but were once again burned by the fact that no one on this team understands what it takes to be a good rebounder...

RA has also shown flashes of decent deffensive play as well. Why we dont play him more continues to be a mystery to me. But again, I didnt see the game last night.

The right players were not in at the end of the game as they let Drake get off 3 shots in 10 seconds ; my opinion is we should have tried to zone press and get them to use up more time getting the ball to half court and when they did drop into a zone defense as the last 8 min. of the game all Drake did was drive to the basket and make a layup or get fouled; does anybody else notice how we are getting beaten badly off the dribble and someone from the opposing team has a career night against us ; we have several players that cannot guard their man and when they get beat their is no one to help out defensively.We are the worst defensive team in the league by far.

Jeezzz...don't you think that JL knows his players, sees them EVERYDAY in practice (where you fans do NOT see) and knows the nessesary personnel that has the chance to be the most successful on that floor. Everyone for the past few weeks has been trashing his coaching decisions...and yes everyone makes judgement mistakes...but come on. Coaching is about so much more than what the general public realizes.

And for you people who critize the concept of playing the players who practice the hardest...YOU are rediculous! If a coach didn't do it this way- he'd lose control of his players very quickly.

You make some good points, but expectations were high for this team, and we're losing home games at record pace. Whether or not we reach our overall goals each season, losing at home is unacceptable. Fans have the right to be upset. I'm sure Jim would rather they be upset than not care at all.

Right on, BradleyBrave... I've never played competitive basketball, and became a fan of the sport late in my college days (thanks to Bradley). I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much, and perhaps my comments reflect that. I do, as a fan, have a right to discuss the games, the players, the coaches, and their strategies. I also have the right to be frustrated when "my" team isn't playing to expectations for the season, and even if those expectations were unrealistic, as BradleyBrave said, losing streaks at home are always going to be unacceptable for this program in my opinion.

In any case, I try to avoid getting negative or personal about the personnel involved in the program (they're "my" team after all, and I support them win or lose), but will criticize what I see, and will choose to have an opinion.

I just don't understand why Austin only played 3 minutes. He has 6 points and 4 rebs in 16 minutes against UNI and plays 3 minutes against Drake. Unbelievable!!!! I guess Salley's production is just too much to consider sitting him: 2 pts 8 rebs in 27 minutes against UNI and 4 pts 3 rebs in 24 minutes against Drake. Oh yeah, and lets not forget the missed layups!!!! Salley is just not getting it done. Yeldarb, with your logic for practice hard = playing time, does that mean that the walkons should play over scholarship players if they "practice the hardest"? Playing time is all about skill level. Salley is obviously overmatched in every game so why not try playing someone else?

This question is for Yeldarb10 ; Why are we losing when we have 3 of the top scorers in the conference in Warren,Crouch, and Maniscalco ? Whose fault is it as someone has to take responsibilty for this? I am only asking for your opinion which is what this board is all about.

Just because we have 3 of the top scorers in the conference doesn't automatically result in wins. There are other areas that are JUST as important (case in point at the Drake game...REBOUNDING in those last 10 seconds).

I'm not saying we can't all voice opinions about what should be done but at the end of the day you've got to understand that JL (you know, the same coach who had an awesome playing career at Bradley, in the NBA and took this team to the Sweet 16) knows a lot more about strategy than any of you people. Yes, JL's past doesn't give him a free pass...but he knows what he's doing. And yes, the team has underachieved but that isn't soley on the shoulders of coaching.

And the practice= playing time subject...if a WALK ON out preforms a scholarship player in practice on a CONSISTANT basis then why not play him!? Anyone remember Danny Adams?
