When will Assistant be Announced?

So far I haven't heard any name that I'm excited about here....

Personally I hope it's not a local coach. We do fine recruiting locally not that there isn't more to the job but that's half the attraction of a local coach.

I've said since Merf's been gone I think this is a very tough situation JL has put himself in with EB as associate head coach. Whoever you bring in will be behind him and we need someone with college exprience and someone that JL will listen to.....and who's willing to come in with a head coach who's seat is at least warm anyway...

I have to disagree with your post for a couple of reasons. If the person is a good x's and o's coach, I'll take him. I have stated previously that I would like for us to hire 2 assistant coaches. I personally would put the x's and o's coach as the top assistant and reassign job tasks to the other assistants.

How about Booth or Webster from DePaul?

BOTH will give much more credibility than what we have now, and Booth could work with the bigs a heck of a lot better than little Buesch!

Both would be major upgrades to the bench. I don't think Webster would do it, but I think Booth might if we made the right offer.

I guess I don't see what you disagree with

I thought S Livingston would be a good young guy to bring in. He is back in the NBA now though so I guess that is out. I remember hearing he was helping recruit in some cases.

Shaun Livingston? Kevin Brown? Eddie Mathews? I thought one of the reasons to bring in someone new to this staff was to find a person who Les is willing to listen too, who will challenge him and make the entire staff better.

Does anyone seriously think one of those 3 let alone any, other then Versace CB, locally would be a person Les would respect enough to listen too. If he had issues with Merfeld he isnt going to put, what could be his final season, at Bradley in the hands of Livingston, Brown or Mathews or atleast I hope he wouldnt.

But I have to believe he might not even have a say so in who if anyone is brought in to be an assistant.

Anyway if anyone has more insite into this please pm me.

JL didn't have issues with Merfield... Lets not just make assumptions.

I agree....what do you think about the 2 I mentioned Houston...

Also, doesn't anyone feel like Les knows his rope is shortening and by bringing in someone who will not have an immediate effect may just simply "cut the rope" for him?

Ok there were issues, will not assume it was anyone just issues, whatever the point was if Merfield was let go essentially replacing him with an NBA player, or a high school coach isnt really going to do Les much good.

He needs a strong assistant who is experienced at the everyday operations of a Division 1 team. I do not think Les has the luxury of time on his side.

I agree. This is pure speculation, but let's just say it was Booth and Versace. That improves our coaching staff exponentially, and makes my outlook on things a whole lot different heading into next season. But again, that's just speculation. Nothing has been done yet, and I don't anticipate anything will be done for a while.

Webster more then Booth. Experience day to day. I really dont buy into the whole local angle on either players or coaches. But we wont pay the money Webster would require.

But if he has to go for a high school coach then I would look hard at Donald Reese. I would prefer Chicago ties versus Peoria.

But rememeber it is not a real big secret that JL and his rope has been shortened significantly.

Would someone want to take a maybe one year leap of faith with Les?

That is why I am not sure if a coach is brought in it is JL's and only JL's choice. That person is probably going to want some assurances that if they come they stay regardless of outcome.

I have heard JL will have full autonomy when selecting any new potential assistant coaches.

Have you also heard the "win this year" motto? If so why would anyone give him complete autonomy when selecting an assistant? Doesnt make sense but it would not surprise me either.

JL you need to win significantly this year and we want you to make some changes on the staff. Ok, if I need to win and make changes let me decide who I go down fighting with... I can see that. Not sure Id give him that leash but I can see it.

Does he try to talk CB out of retirement?
