This poll is for nothing but a bunch of drunk Kool-Aide drinkers.

Even Jim Les' most ardent critics have conceded that he has become an excellent coach (just check their message boards- they suddenly have a lot of respect for JL as a coach and recruiter). Lowery and Hinson, and Altman are very good coaches and have done a great job this year. But their teams were picked to finish in the top 3 or 4 of the league this year. Bradley was picked 8th, and has a shot at 3rd place.

Here was the preseason poll--

Ditto for me! :D

By the way, here is another thread from last October where a few of our posters tried to predict the MVC coaches and media poll results.

Our posters are pretty astute! The several who predicted are a lot closer to the actual results than the coaches and media were. Everyone picked SIU to win it all! Why didn't the coaches and media see this?
But even the optimistic Bradley fans didn't see the Braves finishing possibly in 4th place where they are now, even with injuries to their top 2 players limiting their games played (Ruffin and Crouch). More evidence of just how well this team has overachieved!

Hey, I like my Kool-Aide. Preferably with a jigger or two of vodka.

Really, as everyone else and their moms who vote for JL will state, he's done a lot in a year where he was supposed to do nothing, and his recruiting is top notch. Couple that with the emotion and energy he seems to bring to his players, and you've got COY.

I will wait until the season is over. What if BU loses out or wins out? Either could happen. Let's see what happens before we vote.

Les has done the best job of anyone. He deserves the award.

I am one who piled on him in the early years and I was wrong. He has become a very good coach. There's no question about it.

There's a new thread over on Valleytalk, and pretty much everyone over there is giving Coach of the year to Lowery just so everyone knows and is not disappointed if/when Les doesn't win.

I understand the argument, as a lot of people simply see that SIU is leading the conference and that's good enough to seal the argument.

But Lowery returned his whole starting lineup, and 90% of his scoring and rebounding from last year, and his team was a popular pick to win the conference. But Bradley is one of the teams that beat them, and I think Jim Les outcoached CL in that game.

BU by contrast was picked 8th or 9th and can finish 3rd or 4th.
I think JL has done the best coaching job in the Valley and deserves the COY, but I am not holding my breath.

Yeah, I think we outcoached SIU in Carbondale too, just didn't outplay them. I think JL has done an outstanding job this year, but unless BU finishes in at least a tie for 3rd place, I doubt he will win coach of the year, and even that may not be enough. IMO it is definitely between C Lowery and J Les, I just have a feeling Lowery will get it as they have had a tremendous year thus far.

Jim Les. He has done more with only 1 player, who plays regularly, over 6'7", count em MMob, than any other coach in the MVC could.

Tornado, I agree completely. If you return what SIU returned and achieve what you were suppose to that is a good job done. But, when you exceed what your expectations were by 4 or 5 spots and you can get kids to play like Jim did this year ,the award should be a no brainer. Jim COY period end of discussion. If he doesn't get it it will be a shame. Who votes media or coaches.Could be a be issue as to who gets it but not in my mind

Bradley ended last season with 22 wins, and yet
we may do even better this season, and every single preseason guru predicted that BU would have a sharp downturn.

Here is just a reminder of how bleak most of those gurus said plainly Bradley's season would be.

"a team headed for a big fall"
..."a big fall" ..."major regrouping"..."massive hole in the middle"
"rebuilding mode"...."the Braves will take their lumps"...
""don't expect a magical rerun..."

Les has done the best job of coaching.
Coaching isn't always = winning, but in the end the better coaching will lead to more winning.
