Wouldn't it be smart....

Wouldn't it be smart or a good idea for JL to turn over the decsion regarding Danny's future with the team to KK and the President. He could issue a statment that says his position of head coach doesn't allow for him to make a judgement/decsion that is or ever going to be viewed as not being related to winning and losing from a basketball standpoint.

IOW the perception will ALWAYS be that JL reinstated DR becuase the team needed him EVEN if DR is found innocent of all charges.

Just asking.....

I have to believe that whatever decision is made that it will come from the top and will be issued that way. I understand where you are coming from though.

DRU

I think you're right that Les can do no good in the eyes of many. I hate how Bradley handled the Wilson/TCS incident. Les was made to look like a fool, IMO. You can't do that to your coach unless your coach was grossly in error - which I personally don't think he was.

Re: Ruffin's situation: do you know something we don't know? I really hope that it was a big misunderstanding or something...?

But don't you think that doing that could also give the impression that JL is saying, "I'm not able to keep my team under control. I'll let someone else do it for me."

Not saying that's how I would take it if he did that, but I can understand how some people could turn it that way.

I would hope the public would understand the circumstances and that this decision has to come from a little higher up than DR's coach. JL made it perfectly clear on the postgame show last night that DR is much more than just one of his players and he's known him since he was eight years old!

I agree that most people would understand that. But, going back to DRU's original post, it could give the impression that he thinks he should never be the one making the decision because he's too involved with the situation, essentially saying, "I don't want to be the one who takes the heat with how this is handled." I can see how people could be turned off by that.

Hopefully that makes more sense.

I don't think there's a conflict or power struggle going on here. I also don't think there are conflicting agendas. I am fully confident that JL, KK, and JG are on the same page here - they want the truth to come out (which it is), and will deal with it accordingly.

I think JL needs to part of any decisions concerning Bradley basketball players. It's part of his job responsibility and it would set a very bad precendent to abdicate that responsibility. While he has a close relationship with DR, you have to trust him to be objective. In a 3-way review and decision by JG, KK, and JL, I really don't think JL could manipulate the outcome, even if he wanted to.

Regarding public perception. You just have to ignore it at some point because there will always be a group that is upset, no matter what you do. As long as JL believes he is doing the right thing, he can look his critics in the eye and tell them to *** off :p

What truths are coming out, other than Ruffin was charged with a crime and is now out on bond?

I think the main truth he's referring to is just what happened that caused her to claim Daniel injured him. There are more than 1 version. She claimed DR assaulted her, DR claims he was trying to get her to leave his apartment after he asked her to leave and she refused.

I can think of a number of other facts of the case that also are not clear, but thay will all be answered in time.

Then I wouldn't call them "truths." More like two sides of the story.

But the "truth" is what BB and all of us want to come out. That is the context in which BB used the term truth, meaning what we can all accept really happened, not just the two sides.

Good answers and questions from everyone.

And no, I don't know anything more then anyone else. Wasn't asking the question thinking or knowing something is about to be announced.

In some of the more notorious incidents where "athletes gone wild" took place ... the coaches had circled the wagons with the athletes and created an "us vs them" environment between the adminstration and the athletic department. The Barry Switzer teams at Oklahoma in the 80's are an infamous example of how out of control a situation can become.

I would hope that JL is part of any basketball-related decisions that require involvement of school administration. He will have close relationships with most, if not all, of his current and future players, not just DR.

I would think the community as a whole would feel best if Bradley's female president made the announcement.
