BU schedule

wow-- Saint Louis releases their schedule and they have 19 home games (incl. one exhibition)!!!
How in the world did they swing that??

they also have eight road conference (A-10) games, and only TWO true road non-conference games (at Georgia & Bowling Green), and two neutral tournament games.
http://www.slubillikens.com/auto_pd...o/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/SLUMBB0910Schedule

Too bad the A10 doesn't schedule 18 games. Gotta love the unbalanced conference schedules. You'd think if the B10 with 11 teams can play an 18 game schedule, maybe the A10 with 14 teams could at least try. Instead, St Louis gets a couple extra games in the non-conference.... probably Eastern Illinois and Rockhurst. ;-)

Let's say, on average then, there's about 40 teams in that range that should be targeted (a couple had less, a couple had more, so let's average them all up).

On average, a small but nonzero percent of good mid majors have bad years. Think SIU last year. So let's say 5 or 6 of those 40 desirable mid majors turn out not to be desirable. That leaves, say, 34

Another subset won't play you simply because of travel cost/inconvenience from a budgetary standpoint. Let's assume there's a dozen or so west coast teams or southern teams or whatever that simply won't travel. Down to 22 ideal opponents.

Now, those 22 have to be willing to schedule us as well. It's not unreasonable to think half of them wouldn't consider us just for logistical reasons (e.g., different scheduling strategy). Even more may simply have schedule conflicts such that open dates don't match up. And then there may be the Butler who wants to back out of a deal for one of various reasons.
All of a sudden, there's not many teams left to make the plan work, is there?
Let me guess:roll: Your a Bankruptcy Lawyer:doubt: (and then Judge, you see, there nothing left) JK

OoB! Too funny :) . You always make me laugh. Keep it up, my friend :) :)

I agree that we should be looking into trying to get home and home games against at least 2 of those teams, I would have to think that those teams are having the same problems with their schedule.
The other problem I have with our non conference schedule is if we don"t get another one at home we will only have 14 home games this season with 2 of them coming from the Vegas tour. , I may be wrong but it just seems to me that having no permanent AD could be the reason why our non conf. home games are not as good as usual, your athletic dept. suffers with 1 person trying to wear more then 1 hat as it is way to time consuming to get everything done that needs to get done.

The funny thing is a lot of people would take the bottom 15 or so of that list, give or take, and wouldn't call them quality opponents if we scheduled them.

Again, I realize what you're saying. Just schedule 2 of those 51 and we're fine. But even getting just 2 of those 51 can be quite a chore.

p.s. Remember, we had Butler on there for the longest time, and they had to back out this year. So that theoretically would've been one of the two.

Friday January 1, 2010 - SIU at Bradley 7pm

Either January 19th or January 20th (Tuesday or Weds) Bradley at SIU

UPDATED to include Grambling State......

Those are the home schedules (and last year's RPI) that we're aware of right now. The red games are the ones that each team scheduled on their own. Loyola and Niagara are Bracketbuster return games. Wofford and Presbyterian are on the schedule because they came in the deal that also put Oklahoma State and Illinois/Utah on the schedule.

Would I like to have a home game against a "marquee" name.....obviously, but I'm not going to complain about this year's schedule when I see what the fans down the road get.

Bradley to face DePaul in closed scrimmage on 10/31.

http://www2.pjstar.com/index.php/reynolds/article/bu_to_play_closed_scrimmage_at_depaul

Bradley has just one exhibition this year (Nov. 8 against Division II Lewis) because the new on-campus facility won??™t be ready yet.

In place of it will be a closed scrimmage at DePaul held at Alumni Gym in Chicago on Halloween Day.

The public is not invited and the coaches are not allowed to talk specifically about the scrimmage once it??™s completed.

???We??™re excited about it,??? Les said. ???It??™s a chance to play a Big East team to see where we??™re at. We??™ll look at different combinations and I??™m sure we??™ll get a lot out of it.???

Huh? Why does Les pander to them? :(

How is this pandering? It's just a closed scrimmage. I think both sides benefit well from this. We get to play against better competition than the normal exhibition opponent.

Besides, we all know who's going to win. :)

I agree completely. Not sure how he was "pandering" by making that statement. The team should be excited about any and every opportunity to play against another team, be it exhibition, non-conference, or Valley opponent. DePaul IS a Big East team. We should be looking at different combinations and getting a lot out of it. I'm not sure what is wrong with anything Les said there.

Pander, not sure I new the real meaning of it so I asked Webster:?
Pander = person who caters to base passions of others

Ok, as I see it DePaul would not renew a series with Bradley for what ever reason. Maybe they just did not like coming to P town, or maybe it is because they are with the Big Boys now and have to thumb their noses at us or maybe they are just embarrassed because they don't have a fan base like BU's and having more BU fans a their home game than their fans or just maybe they are scared of getting their butts beat. As for what ever their reasoning for not wanting to play us in the regular season then one has to ask why the hell we would be willing to play them behind closed doors as if they don't want anyone to know we are playing BU but we will use them for what ever gain we can get without the open shame and humiliation that BU could give us in a open game (regular season or exhibition):!:
I agree with B4L this pandering:-o We stand more to gain in a open game, in front of the fans and knowing the out come! My opionion!

DePaul still won't play us in a real game. Nothing has changed.
So I see this as the next best thing. As a scrimmage, it will serve the purpose that early-season scrimmages are intended for, the cost of travel is minimal, and the competetion is much better than D2. And if Bradley didn't get this game, they would have been locked into just the one exhibition against Lewis.

So the fans get Lewis and lose a exhibition game and DePaul gets PANDER:-P
I got it:roll:
