2011 BU Commitment- Remy Abell

I'm just curious, if he is contending for Mr. Basketball in KY, why didn't he get some BCS school offers? His 3 offerings were mid major type. Makes me wonder if maybe their is some grade/character issues he may have to work out in his senior season.

Alright all, lets not hype him up to much, we all know our luck with star commitments these last 2 years. Someone else may snatch him up or he goes on to having an unbelievable senior season and a BCS school comes along.
Jason

He supossedly WAS offered by Penn State, UTEP, IUPUI, Morehead, Wright State, Marshall,& Akron...granted, not great basketball schools, but solid interest from good basketball schools, and no mention (yet) of any grade/character issues:doubt:--sounds to me like he could be a very good Valley player and BU should be a perfect fit for him. Looks like he could be a 2 sport athlete and play linebacker for BU football too:wink:

Sounds like a great pickup for BU!

I just found a Rivals Premium article from June that mentions interest from Indiana, Xavier, Clemson, and Butler, and an offer from Seton Hall is listed under his profile.

http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1096712

"6-foot-4, 200-pound guard Remy Abell from Eastern High in Louisville had a terrific spring showing his ability to play either guard position. That has led to a number of schools that are poised to watch him closely in the critical month of July, the only offseason month that coaches can get out to evaluate at offseason events.

Abell made camps at IU, Butler and Purdue.

"My recruitment is going well, I have five offers it is relatively early," said Abell. "We'll see how it goes in July."

As mentioned a number of other programs are showing interest and seem poised to see how he plays in July.

"Dayton, Southern Illinois, Murray State, Ohio University, Xavier, Bradley, Clemson, Indiana, Butler" said Abell.

"The Indiana interest is recent but the Butler interest has been there since my sophomore season but it has started to pick up a little bit," said Abell."

How about Donivine Stewart? and Sean Harris?

They committed TOO early ;)

But seriously... This is a GREAT verbal. Im sure the availability of PT with DD, AW and SM graduating probably helped out here, too. This was a position that we were set up to be able to get a great player... An we did! Top 150 for BU is always excellent. (watch his rankings drop now though!)

Between available PT to compete for, JL's salesmanship, and these new facilities... No wonder we got a great one!

Welcome, Remy!

I have heard he was our #1 target...and Coach Les went for a home visit and landed the kid --
anyone who says the facilities aren't going to pay off for a long time is dead wrong...
so congrats not only to Remy & his family but also congrats to Coach Les & staff and to all the BU supporters and donors who had a part in this because of their support and contributions that led to the new facilities.

Abell has a D-I-ready physique and D-I talent... and chose Bradley over at least one Big Ten and one Big East offer!

Remy is ranked #148 in the NATION by Rivals....
"Rivals.com rates Abell, a three-star recruit, as the No. 36 shooting guard
and No. 148 prospect in the 2011 class."
scout.com has him ranked 26th best SG in the nation...

Welcome aboard Remy, you made a great choice. Bradley fans are special and this will be the best 4 years of your life. Now, lets go get a big 4 or 5 to complete next years recruiting class. It's off to a great start.
P.S. Tornado, I'll bet his ratings drop big time now that Remy has committed to us but, we know what the Rivals of the world thought of him before he chose the Braves. Remy remember "Once a Brave always a Brave."

An Indiana fan I know told me he didn't think Indiana was ever interested in him, but this article does confirm they were. They told Remy in June they wanted to begin recruiting him after Remy had put on some awesome displays at AAU games.-

Remy will be the tallest player JL has recruiter in a couple of years. Kinda makes me wonder if he is the big man we are hoping for

?? I count at least 28 players Jim Les has recruited and/or landed on BU's campus in the past 7-8 years -- averaging 3-4 per year!!
Even --- just since 2009 -- there's six who are 6-4 or taller...
and TEN who are at least 6-4 and who either ARE on the roster currently or who will be next year! TEN....and both Walt & DSE who are listed at 6-3 will play every bit as tall as 6-4.

Here are some representative heights on recent players Jim Les has recruited and landed...they didn't all stay around but I suspect we have as many as any other team in the Valley in the same time span...
who are as tall as or considerably taller than Remy
2003 - Sommerville 6-7, Rembert 6-9
2004 - Singh 6-9, O'Bryant 7-0, Stemler 6-7, Crouch 6-5, Wright 6-4
2005 - Andrews 6-8, Jassey 6-6, Brown 6-6
2006 - Salley 6-7, Warren 6-5, Fears 6-4
2007 - Collins 7-0, Thompson 6-10, Egolf 6-9, Wilson 6-5, Austin 6-7, Sweatman 6-7, Thornton 6-7
2008 - Taylor Brown 6-6, Roberts 6-4
2009 - Knezevic 6-8, Prosser 6-8, Eastman 6-5
2010 - Andrew Davis 6-10
2011 - Sean Harris 6-7, Remy Abell 6-4

The BradleyFans.com exaggerometer just went off with this statement, so I felt compelled to respond, too. I assume this is sarcastic, because otherwise it's just plain wrong.

First- how many big men has Bradley lost to graduation in the last "couple of years"?-
only 2- Sam Singh in 2010, and David Collins in 2009. Both were ridiculed by some fans (maybe BUFAN you were one of them?), and were career reserves who's contributions were minimal. So Bradley really did not have a lot of big-man losses to replace these last "couple of years".

But contrary to the assertion that "Remy will be the tallest player JL has recruiter in "a couple of years", Jim Les did recruit Andrew Davis, and is responsible for his commitment, though the contact was initially from Coach Platt. Also, a little over a year ago he recruited and signed Jordan Prosser (6'9" according to the roster) and Milos Knezevic (6'8"). He also recruited Michael Ochereobia this year, though complications beyond the control of JL kept him from attending BU. Nonetheless, he did recruit and get a commitment from him, and he has "recruited" many more big men.
Bradley will also have Sean Harris as a freshman next season, so Remy Abell is not even close to being the tallest recruit in this class of 2011.

Our coaches are interested in recruiting big men who can play in the MVC. I am certain that if we signed more big men just for the sake of satifying a few fans who aren't happy unless we have a roster full of 6'10" kids, those same fans would be the first to complain when we couldn't compete because the big men lack skills.

Jim Platt brought Andrew along when JL hired him to be an assistant. JL was not involved with him or recuiting him.

Wow. I cannot believe this. You hold his feet to the fire when he loses, btu his successes can never ever be his. Your bias is absolutely ignorant. If our bigs are weak this year I don't want to hear a single things from you because Platt coaches them, not JL. Good god.

Are you seriously telling me that you think JL was not involved in the recruiting of a player and that a new assistant coach who he has never worked with just brought this guy and Les signed up to bring the kid sight unseen? And people around here wonder why people get labeled as negative.

Good news I think! Would love to have our recruiting done in the fall for once. Like the looks of this one, reminds me of Shelvin Mack (who was almost a Brave). Nice job BU!

Please read my post, I said he is the tallest player JL has recruited in a couple of years.

I think we've recruited plenty of height, but since we've brough in a PG, a SG, and a Wing for the 2011 class, a post player (PF or C doesn't matter to me) would be great for rounding out this recruting effort.

Harris and Brown signed in 07 Milos and Jordan signed in 08 and JL didn't sign Andrew.

So your argument is that one calendar year JL didn't sign a 'big' recruit, the same year he had a 3-star 6-8 big man redshirting? (Even though I completely and totally disagree with your statement JL didn't recruit Davis?)

That is really the case your trying to make?
