2016-17 Coaching Carousel

Bio on Niko Medved-
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niko_Medved

He has been head coach at Furman for 4 seasons, and has a career record of 61-70, and 33-37 in the Southern Conference.
He is 23-11 this season (which includes 2 wins over non-D1 schools), and he finished in a 3-way tie for first place in the Southern Conference with a 14-4 league record (the Drake link erroneously says they were 13-3).
His Furman team is still alive in the final four of the CIT.

Niko Medved has one Bradley connection. He started the 2006-07 season as an assistant under Dan Monson at Minnesota at the same time former BU coach Jim Molinari was also an assistant there. And he remained an assistant under Molinari when Monson was fired and Jim took over as interim head coach on November 30, 2006 for the remainder of that 2006-07 season.

Furman assistant coach Bob Richey was named Interim Head Coach. Furman officials have not said what they plan to do in the long term in replacing Niko Medved, who took the Drake head coaching job yesterday.
I wonder why he couldn't have waited a few days to announce he was leaving Furman. It seems to come at a bad time as Furman prepares to play in the CIT semifinal game Wednesday.

Duquesne hires Akron's Keith Dambrot..
Dambrot has won 20 games or more 11 years in a row and he won 19 the year before that

his record in 12 years at Akron is an amazing 278-130

Long time Purdue and SIU assistant Jack Owens is the new head coach at Miami-Ohio.

despite a little of a down year, UNI Head coach gets an extension and is signed all the way thru 2027!!
http://unipanthers.com/news/2017/3/29/mens-basketball-jacobson-given-2-year-contract-extension.aspx

Think about it...that means even if he lost 25-30 games every year for the next, 5, 6, 8 or 9 years, he'd still be under contract
and they'd have to buy him out if they wanted to make a change!

Santa Barbara hires Joe Pasternak
Bethune-Cookman - Ryan Ridder
Wilmington to hire CB McGrath

At Florida A&M, one of the remaining open head coaching jobs, one interesting candidate being considered is Pat Kennedy, who applied for the job. Kennedy has been out of coaching for the past 2 years, but had a fairly successful 11 year stint at Florida State, followed by not-so successful stays at DePaul, Montana, Towson and Pace University (NCAA Division II school he was only 12-42 in 2 seasons). His last winning season (12-21) was 1999-2000 in his next-to-last year at DePaul.
Kennedy was once considered a very good recruiter, but he has not recruited much in Florida since he was last at Florida State in 1997.
But the strong sentiment is that FAMU Athletics Director Milton Overton will most likely select a black coach.

Pat Kennedy was a cheaing fool while at DePaul. Quentin Richardson, Bobby Simmons, Lance Williams all had really nice apartments (penthouses) and drove extremely nice SUV's around Lincoln Park. Easier to recruit when you have things like that to give away. He was basially shown the door once the heat started to come down on the University.
