At Florida A&M, one of the remaining open head coaching jobs, one interesting candidate being considered is Pat Kennedy, who applied for the job. Kennedy has been out of coaching for the past 2 years, but had a fairly successful 11 year stint at Florida State, followed by not-so successful stays at DePaul, Montana, Towson and Pace University (NCAA Division II school he was only 12-42 in 2 seasons). His last winning season (12-21) was 1999-2000 in his next-to-last year at DePaul.
Kennedy was once considered a very good recruiter, but he has not recruited much in Florida since he was last at Florida State in 1997.
But the strong sentiment is that FAMU Athletics Director Milton Overton will most likely select a black coach.
