interesting rumor making the rounds among SIU fans...
That Barry Hinson - despite a solid 2nd place finish, won 20 games again, a great 11-3 home record, an opportunity (turned down) to play in the post-season, and yet a massive 25% dropoff in home attendance with a huge hunk of the fan base & donor base calling for his terminaiton - Barry was going to be fired, that a buyout was secured and all they needed was OK from higher up, but their Board President nixed the whole thing.
So Barry will be there for at least one or two more years.

Sounds like there is some confusion on who is responsible for what? If I fired Coach Hinson and got over ruled, I would be totally embarrassed. Further, if I had someone reporting to me who fired the Coach and I had to undo it, I would be totally embarrassed.

Sounds like fundamental management issues abound in the SIU Athletic Administration.

the admin was apparently "overruled" by big money donors

In the meantime McNeese hires Heath Schroyer, current BYU assistant and former Portland State, Wyoming & UT-Martin Head coach
with a career DI head coaching record of 125-143 and zero NCAA or NIT appearances..
..and South Alabama is said to be hiring Nicholls State's Richie Riley

and many reports that Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway will be tyhe next head coach at Memphis...remember, he is best friends with Darrell Brown's dad and
is Godfather to Darrell.....so don't discount the attraction of playing for your own Godfather, idol, and darned-near family......
..also rumors of Tom Crean to Georgia..

Athletic Department officials from Georgia are meeting today with former Indiana and Marquette coach Tom Crean. There are reports that they are seriously considering offering their head coaching job to him. His contract with Indiana ran through 2020. He accepted a huge buyout that will continue to pay him for 2 more years. So he probably doesn't need the money, but my guess is that he'd love to get back into coaching, and Georgia is a high profile job that he would be interested in.

Looking like Evansville will hire Calbert Cheaney as their new head coach. Evansville reportedly working out financial details; it likely will happen.

Another candidate that has emerged is Travis DeCuire, head coach of Montana.

Longwood is said to be hiring Griff Aldrich - an assistant at UMBC - who just knocked off #1 seed Virginia in the tourney

...update (edit) Rhode island's Danny Hurley to UConn!!

and the process to hire a new head coach at Missouri State to replace Paul Lusk
...seems to repeatedly have their top targets turn and run and abandon the job - (sound familiar?)
They were targeting ROB LANIER - ..then he bolted and said "nope" - then Lanier instantly becomes the top candidate for a different job (they were paying their last coach $500K)
