2017 Valley recruits

Birds are going to be very athletic and deep next year. In my opinion they could be better then last year.

I think they can be the top team next year with WSU gone, but I don't see them being as good as last year's 28-win team. They just lost their 2 top scorers, their top rebounder, their top two 3-point shooters, their top 2 leaders in steals, the MVC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, and the MVC leading assist and steals leader.
Who'll play point guard? Evans averaged just barely over 1 assist per game and had more turnovers than assists.

Missouri State gets a commitment from a junior college forward- Abdul-Hakim Fofana. He is originally from the west African country of Burkina Faso-
http://verbalcommits.com/players/abdul-hakim-fofana

He averaged 15.4 ppg and 11.8 rpg at Dakota College at Bottineau, a Division II junior college-
http://www.njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/2016-17/div2/players/abdulhakimfofanatbwy

He has an interesting history-
http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...abdul-hakim-fofana+&cd=18&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

This is his first year of playing basketball at the juco level, so he might have 3 years of eligibility left if qualifies for D1.

that article seems to indicate that he enrolled in school there in Atlanta but then when it got too expensive he went and enrolled in Houston...

So- like Taylor Brown - his clock would have started at that point by enrolling for college level courses, even if he did NOT play basketball, then he spent a full year in North Dakota at juco.
So he may have 3 years of eligibility left but he likely has no redshirt year remaining.

But he does appear to be an athletic kid tho obviously inexperienced with only a couple years of well organized ball - so gotta figure he might be a redshirt candidate but maybe doesn't have that redshirt year available to him. I think this signals exactly how slim the pickings are at this point and although any kid might surprise and be a game changer - probably what we'll see are fairly obscure commits. Even the ISU commit seems odd - as in why would a 6-4 shooting guard - one of the top players in juco ball, who some have labelled the best juco 3-point shooter in the nation have so few offers at this late stage? And with two dozen DI programs in his own state and many more in nearby states - that he doesn't appear to have a single DI offer from any school within 1,000 miles.

also, this means someone will have to be leaving because they didn't have any open scholarships before landing this guy

ONE MORE COMMIT - Evansville lands Marty Hill
He is from Northeast Community College in Nebraska and is a teammate of former BU Recruit Vance Johnson
**the newspaper over in Evansville says
"Marty Hill....averaged 14.8 points, shooting 42.7 percent from behind the 3-point line. He also averaged 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists."
..but they didn't do their homework very well, as those are his stats from two seasons ago - not his current stats.

Not sure exactly how long he was in school in Atlanta; he didn't go into specifics when I interviewed him. Not sure whether he can redshirt or not, that's a great question. He's a great kid and I'm glad to see him achieve his goal of playing college ball.

Missouri State takes in a grad transfer with their final scholarship

Howard University grad transfer James Miller...avg 14.7 ppg & is eligible immediately
6-4 SG originally from NC
He took a lot of shots - and hit 42.2% overall and 25.8% from 3-pt - he also hit 66% on FTs, 3.4 rpg, 2.4 apg
Howard was 10-24 and they are 46-85 in his past 4 years there - one of which he played sparingly due to injury so he's getting a 5th year

So as it stands now the only expected LOI's currently are Bradley's Luqman Lundy, Evansville's Marty Hill,
ISU's Zach Copeland, Missouri State's Abdul-Hakin Fofana, and SIU's Eric McGill - all five are juco kids

Anyone heard of any others? Loyola cleared space with Kirby gone & are hoping to land 6-9 Akiean Frederick from juco
...and it's puzzling that Taylor Bruninga would still be talking about taking a visit to ISU when they just gave their last scholarship to Zach Copeland.

Ronnie Rousseau III is back with Missouri State, he left the team mid-season last year--
not sure if they have a scholarship available for him...

Nobody in the MVC even has a single 2018 commit yet...but Wichita just got a verbal from a Class of 2019 kid

I know they're not MVC but get a commitment from DeAntoni Gordon from Mobile, AL, a 6-7 power forward
He's unable to sign a Letter of Intent for a year and a half.

Loyola gets a verbal from Lucas Williamson - from Chicago Whitney Young....he can be a good team leader...

As you know Whitney Young advanced all the way to the 4A Championship game then beat Simeon
Lucas Williamson's season stats:
17.6 ppg, 5 rpg, 32-103 (31%) from 3-pt, 2 apg

Perhaps the thing that held back his recruiting the most was that he is very slender - and looks to be perhaps more of a redshirt candidate first year...
plus his shooting percentages against high school competition are rather low. But also it keeps Loyola connected with the Chicago kids and the next couple years can be critical there...
This appears to be the final scholarship for Loyola in 2017.

This is interesting - I thought Loyola used their final scholarship on Lucas Williamson..
but today the got a commitment from juco forward Adarius Avery

His averages are kinda amazing - 24.1 ppg, 10.9 rpg, 3.8 apg...
and yet he had very few solid offers - so gotta wonder if grades are an issue...

so they appear one-over so maybe someone's not coming back??

BTW - it was previously said that Loyola's offer to Taylor Bruninga was a full offer -
and Bruninga is still apparently scheduled to visit there on April 23, so that might be gone now

Adarius Avery was one I mentioned last month in a list of juco big men still available. I found it strange that he had such great numbers but just a few low offers.-
