if anyone saw....
Evansville signee Noah Frederking just led his Class 1A Okawville team all the way to the IHSA Class 1A Championship game then they took home the Runnerup Trophy.

Frederking is a talented 6-3 or 6-4 kid, strong, not slender at all and had Marty-Simmons-like skills....
In fact for anyone who is old enough it's kind of uncanny how much the kid makes you think of Marty when Marty was playing for Lawrenceville.

The differences, Noah is an inch or two shorter and he never really displayed the deadeye long distance touch...
I can assure you that he won't get 80% of the points he got today once he arrives in the MVC as he does not get too far off the floor and a large percentage of his points come from using his bulk to maneuver & bull his way against small, skinny 1A opponents and get into the lane and put up short shots and layups.
Any team with a shot blocker would negate 75-80% of those shots.

The IHSA website says he takes only about 32% of his shots from beyond the 3-pt arc (171 of 527) and makes 38.6% (66-171)
Time will tell if he adjusts to DI but it's a pretty big step up from 1A ball.

I watched Okawville's games yesterday and today, and Noah Frederking is a nice Class 1A player and he kept his team in the game, though they lost.
And I am reluctant to say anything negative, but I am not sure what Marty Simmons saw that lead him to offer a scholarship at Evansville.
The kid would probably have trouble finding playing time on the top Class 3A or 4A teams in the state. He is not a point guard at all, and rarely handles the ball. He plays more of a power forward position for his team, which won't work in D1 (he is maybe 6'4" at most). And, there isn't any way he wiil be able to defend D1 shooting guards or forwards. I saw Marty Simmons in high school and college, and he was way more dominant and a scoring machine. There is no comparison.
I'd be surprised if Frederking doesn't redshirt next season, and he'll probably eventually play below D1 level.

By the way- here is some trivia- in looking up Marty Simmon's scoring average his senior year at Lawrenceville (31.9 ppg).
I was reminded that 3 of the top 10 high school single-season scorers in IHSA history played for Bradley.

Does anyone know what players had the top 2 all-time single-season scoring averages? They both played their entire college careers at Bradley.

And as noted, 3 of the top 10 highest single-season scoring averages were by players who played for Bradley.
The first 2 are easy. Anyone know who the 3rd one was?
Hint: he was not much of a scorer for Bradley. He scored only a total of 106 points in 2 seasons as a Brave.

2017...
SIU - Demarius Jacobs (signed), Jeremy Roscoe - (will not sign a LOI since he signed one in 2016), Marcus Bartley - transfer eligible in 2017 (2 scholarships currently open)...

SIU's situation changes a little...
-They have 4 seniors but one is returning now as Tyler Smithpeters just gained NCAA approval for 5th year (redshirt)

-but then the only recruit they had coming in for 2017 has now reneged, and Demarius Jacobs is not going to honor his signed Letter of Intent!
No word yet if SIU will have to decide whether to give him a full release...but they don't have to and that would make it impossible for Demarius Jacobs to play at any other NCAA school under scholarship.
BUT - unconfirmed word is that he wasn't going to make grades anyway, so he will land at prep school and hopefully become a 2018 recruit.

- so that means where every other MVC school has one or more players known to be coming in this fall....SIU joins Drake as the two MVC schools that still don't have anybody and pickings are getting pretty slim!

Been reading the other MVC message boards...

something's different than it used to be...
fans used to hope their coach did a great job of scouting & following players, then recruiting and landing them & developing them ...and meshing their talents with the the rest of the team for a winning season!

But that's not what a lot of fans hope for or want now...

Now they just seem to want to HIT THE LOTTERY by landing a top grad transfer who is eligible immediately and who will carry them to the post-season..
Wichita fans even hoping they land an impact grad-transfer as a walk-on....yeah, right...

Demarius Jacobs and his younger brother - Kansas commit Markese Jacobs -
both transfer to Hillcrest Prep School in Phoenix, AZ

Demarius will be a post-grad Class of 2018, Markese will be a junior next year - Class of 2019

Finally some verbal action in the MVC

SIU lands the 2nd spring commit (Luqman Lundy was 1st)

They get a verbal from Eric McGill from Panola juco
He is a 6-2 combo guard who was "previously dismissed from SEMO"

He averaged 2.4 ppg in his freshman season at SEMO then as a sophomore this past season at Panola he averaged 11.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg, and 5.6 apg, while shooting 39.5% from 3-pt

SIU is in need of ball-handling guards for next season with the loss of Mike Rodriguez & Leo Vincent.

McGill is originally from Memphis. I wonder if Darrell Brown knows him.

Only a week from the beginning of the spring signing period (April 12 - May 17, 2017) ...and there are ONLY TWO players that are on the list as expected spring signees... (Lundy, McGill)

Last year on this exact date there were a dozen spring commits that would sign including Hodgson & Brown, Jr. for Bradley - so activity this spring has been very quiet... but more would be expected in the next weeks

ISU signee Elijah Clarance might be pretty good - and he's entitled to have the highest goals - go for it.....
but he's kinda predicting he will be the best MVC player since Hersey Hawkins.
I sure hope we have someone to defend him or he's gonna dominate the Valley.

FIRST- he predicted he might be a one-and-done, or possibly take as much as 2 or 3 seasons to get to the NBA...
"Their two senior guards go out now, I will come in and get the chance to play right away.
I'm going to get a really big role.
.. I do not know how long it will take - but from one to three years I think I'm going to the NBA, "says Clarance."

but why stop there - .......
"Elijah Clarance: "I can be an NBA all-star"

...I think I can be an NBA all-star."

His high school had enrollment of around 220 as did all the opponents they played, and he just played in a Maryland high school All Star game.
His team got smoked by 30 points....but he did score 22

Love the confidence. I'll pass on the comment around the level of competition he played in high school as it's very uneducated. I'll just center on the fact that he was the player of the year and love his backstory.

ran across this old post about another former ISU player who was said to be headed soon to the NBA even before he got to ISU...but I don't think he ever made it...

Nobody in the MVC has any 2018 recruits and several schools are still trying to fill their 2017 scholarships...

UNI got their 2017 verbal two full years in advance - in 2015 - LINK

Most of the other 2017 verbals came starting in late summer of 2016 - so I expect we could see a 2018 verbal this summer, we'll have to wait & see.
Bradley will have at least TWO scholarships to fill with Donte Thomas and Jojo McGlaston graduating

Nice get by the Redbirds, beating out a Pac 12 (Colorado) and a Big Ten (Nebraska) to get him. Offense shaping up pretty nicely for Redbirds next year. Let's see if they can guard people at the same level though. Hopefully my Aces will have some people to test that, but not looking good right now.
