For supposedly playing 'slow Mo' basketball, Mo recruited 4 of the top 15 scorers in school history. I guess he wasn't such a bad recruiter after all.

Jim Les has 3 players (Gilbert, Warren, and Sommerville) in the top 15 in fewer years. Given a couple more years, Sam Maniscalco and Taylor Brown will likely be on the list, and that would make 5.

Mo benefitted from coaching his entire career with the freshman eligible rule, the 3-point line and the shot clock, which increased scoring significantly. Stan Albeck was the only other coach before him to have those rule changes, but he did not have many 4-year players.

The shot clock didn't necessarily increase scoring. It hindered it in some cases. But it is hard to compare all-time stat leaders over different generations.

And perhaps his most noteworthy recruit (signed and sealed) in Anthony Grundy simply didn't arrive on campus in the fall of 1997. Of course he went on to a respectable career at NC State. While he was lured away, Molinari did sign him and he simply didn't show up. I give him credit for at least signing him, but understand why you can't really count him.

But after that, Molinari also made the conscious decision to stop chasing that level of player (AP, Grundy) for about an entire cycle of players, as we saw later with Tucker, Granger et al.

In the first season the shot clock was introduced into the NBA, scoring went from 79.5 points per game immediately to 93.1 ppg, a 13.6 ppg increase solely due to the shot clock. The total scoring (by both teams) in a game increased by 27.2 ppg!

In the NCAA, the total scoring in an NCAA game was 127.4 points per game the year prior to the shot clock. In the first year of the shot clock (1985), it immediately went to 138.7 ppg, and continued to rise every year for several more years after that, despite the fact that shooting percentages have gone down significantly, and defenses have gotten better.

Both men's and women's basketball initially had longer shot clocks, and later shortened them (men's started at 40 seconds in 1985 and was shortened to 35 seconds in 1993). In every case when the shot clock was shortened, scoring increased.

Fair enough. I wasn't arguing that scoring is up since the 3pt line and shot clock. Just that the shot clock isn't an automatic there. You are right. Comparing over different eras is tough.

Amen. Andrew has had an unbelievable season. Unreal. I was openly critical of his game before the season. He has totally stuck it to me (not that he cared what I thought). He has expanded his game, played tough, been a leader, all of those things.

Yes, definitely an accomplishment considering what great players the Valley has had this past decade.

If we play 4 games, AW needs about 24 ppg (23.5)
If we get to play 5, he needs about 19 ppg. (18.8)

So let's win on Thursday, 'cause averaging almost 24 in the next 4 may prove tough...BUT, since we are playing weaker teams, he may just do it in 4!

I am critical of Warren, and have a LOT of 'critique' for his game and disposition to this day, but that would still be one heck of an accomplishment. Too bad he has zero chance at the MVC POY.

Andrew's 18.9 ppg average is also the highest average in the MVC in the last 10 years, since Tyrise Bryson averaged 23.2 ppg in 2000-2001.

I don't know for a fact that he is, but think he must be. He's scoring and rebounding a ton in a quality (?) conference... And unlike so many other bradley favorites he's not a tweener, but in fact well sized got the position he'd play. Lol I feel like he could help the bulls right now.

Agreed on all counts (except that I don't think the Bulls should draft Johnson). Because he's a mid-major guy and not scoring 36 ppg, he'll be relatively under the radar... He'll have to do well at one of the summer leagues to up his stock and/or lead Bradley on a completely ridiculous NCAA run. Based on his senior season I do think he has the best chance to play in the NBA of any Brave since Cellus (who was a dreaded tweener) because of his versatile game, shooting, and size.

The problem with these lists is always the same. I just spent some time messing around with ESPN's top SG prospects. Of course Andrew Warren isn't on the list... But Seth Curry is #22 (#109 overall). I think AW is the better college player and the better pro prospect by almost any measure. There's only two mid-major players on that list, Charles Jenkins of Hofstra (#7/51) and Xavier Silas (#30/145). Without any hesitation I'd take AW over Silas. Never seen Jenkins play, so can't really comment.
