Biggest game in JL's tenure...

I asked this question in another thread but I think it deserves its own because I'd like to here what aothers think.....

I offer this is one of JL's biggest games in his time here.

With his seat getting warm a win against SIU and a subsequent winning streak could cool it down a tad.

A game like this could salvage the season and take us past the usual "mediocre" finish we have become so accustomed to.

Thoughts.....

I'd say it is an important game, and would be a fantastic game to win. If we lose, you're going to have to look at how it happened. It's possible to go down there and play real well and lose. To some people that will mean he should be fired, to others that will mean he is doing fine. It all depends on your bias.

I think its a big game...Not sure its anywhere near the biggest...

I would suspect that the wsu game in the year that BU went sweet 16 and the two ncaa games were bigger.

But where I think you are right is that it is ultra important.

But the reason is different..I think this game allows BU to finish "mediocre"

Its also allows BU to go from there and perhaps finish in the third spot...

So its big...

I was just gonna say the 2 ncaa games were bigger...got beat to it.

I'm not a JL hater but in all honesty if he doesn't have those two games under his belt he may not be here at all. Those 2 were bigger than this.

That being said this is still a big game for this season and could set the tone for remaining games. This one seems it could possibly have a domino effect, and because of that we need to win.

I agree- it's a big game, but to qualify as the biggest game in JLs tenure it should be devastating to lose or should at least eliminate Bradley from contending. I am not sure a loss at SIU does either.

How can a coaches seat be getting warmer and be playing the biggest game of his tenure when we're only 1/3 of the way through conference season? People need to relax we win one game and we're going to the tourney. We lose one game and JL needs to be fired. Things are never as good as they seem or as bad as they seem.

Good responses....

For the record I did say ONE of the biggest games in his tenure. Obviously there have been others but I just felt, with the season falling apart quickly, and with the possibilty of a nice bounce back winning at a place we struggle could be huge.

I could agree it's the biggest conference game of the season, Illini game was huge for the program and will be remembered for years and years no matter what people argue. This game gives us a chance to pick up a road win where we normally can't count on a win to avenge a game we should've won. If we win this game, hold court at home, and win games at InSU and Evansville, this team finishes 12-6 and I think very few would be upset by that.

I think this game is important but it is not even close to being the most important game in J.Les"s tenure , the team is playing much better but beating good teams on the road is not a given even if you play well, after watching us play on Saturday I have changed my opinion somewhat on why we have not been winning games that we should have, the desire and toughness that we showed against Mo.St. was not there in just about every game we have played this season because if it was then we would have won all but 4 games this season, whatever motivated our players into playing like this is probably a lot more important then the coaching because even though are substitutions were better and we did play some zone we did not really make any drastic changes as far as offense or defense goes , I guess what I am trying to say is we looked like a well coached team that needs to be motivated which is just hard to understand.

JL's biggest game was his first win as coach of BU. A 95-81 win in OT against Pepperdine and their coach then, X-NBA star, Paul Westfall:!: I still see him jumping up and down, running the side line, waving both his arms/hands to the fans to get on their feet and root his team to a win:) That game with his excitement and the win, put fresh air into the fans and a program that was on a downhill slide. Winning your first game as a coach is always big but because he was a standout player coming back to coach where he played and because of all the schools conversely over his hiring, this was big for him:!:

His other big wins of course were the sweet 16 run over Kansas and Pitt:!: These were big for a lot of reason's, Putting BU's name back in the national light, recruiting, raising the level of the fan base and the money that came with/from those wins:!: Money that helped expedite the new field house:!:

Wednesdays game is big only as far as this season, as I know JL will return next year:)

The next game is always the biggest game because it is right there to take and enjoy in the moment The biggest in JL's tenure though????? I dear say not even close!

All conference games are BIG. This one just happens to be the next BIG one. Is a loss devistating, no, is a win critical, no.

Goal is to play hard, consistant basketball and do what needs to be done to win, but is this game bigger then Evansville on Saturday, likely yes, but it is no more important at this stage in the conference season. It though is very important to prove to themselves they can win v a team they blew a huge lead too and start getting a bit of momentum. Win this one and 4 straight is very possible, then at ISUred then Drake and Eville. 6 out of 7 is not a bad thng.

BTW the biggest game in JL's tenure was v Creighton in the 06 conference tourney. That win, took a monkey off our backs in the tourney and it gave us an opportunity v WSU for atlarge considerations. Lose that one and 06 sweet 16 does not happen.

We're on the edge of a disaster season. The only thing keeping us from falling off of it was Saturday's game. Going to need a seriously mean win streak to right the ship.

Any road game in the Valley is tough to consider a must-win. This would be a real nice to have if you are looking to finish top 3, but plenty of roadies left to make up for this one if we drop it.

We only have 1 conference home loss so there is still hope that we get 8 wins at home. 2 road wins, Evansville and Drake gets us to our usual 10 wins. So I guess it is tough to call it a must win.

In all honesty the game we won on Saturday is probably more important in the grand scheme of things than the game tomorrow night.

All that said, would go a long way to solidifying JL as the best man for the job if they win one in dogville.

A win at SIU would be big since five of the next seven are at home and one of those road games is at 0-7 Evansville. It presents a chance for Bradley to put a streak together and get people fired up about the program again.

There really haven't been that many "big" conference games in JL's tenure. The win at Northern Iowa in '06 was a big one since it helped BU get an at large bid.

Well again, are we going to start calling every game Les's biggest game? I think that's overkill by a big margin! And again, let's not start insinuating that Les's seat is getting "hot" or even "warm" when over half the season still is to be played and nothing has ever been announced by the administration or the media. Besides, the middle of the season would be the wrong time to assess a coach. The end of the season is the time to assess the stabilty of coaches and if we finish strong, I would find it hard to believe that Les's seat would even be warm.

I also don't believe that a loss at SIU would damage our chances at a strong finish in that we would probably not be expected to win there anyway as it is one of the toughest places in the Valley to play. Having said that though, SIU is beatable, so let's wait and see how this game turns out first.

How can you say that? We would lose all tiebreakers with them.
