Bradley 83 Creighton 92 - Final

Charron Woods was a pretty good player in high school but got only D-II attention and wanted to go to school and get a good pre-med education so he chose Bradley and tried to walk on (not "invited") as a freshman...
he was not accepted as a walk on that year and served as team manager -- but as he played more and his skills developed, he was granted status as a non-scholarship (walk-on) player in his sophomore year.
Charonn is currently a senior and will graduate on time but he still has a year of athletic eligibility remaining since he didn't play his freshman year - but there's no way he would stay and pay his own way to be a walk-on --
If a scholarship arose and he was offered (unlikely) then he might consider staying..

I agree, but I think the idea of paying someone to be on the team means they are someone who can contribute. If the guys we have are not good enough to contribute over a guy walking the quad, AND not redshirting, then we are wasting money. DS and DH are not playing and not redshirting. Seems like pretty worthless seasons to me. Not worthless individuals mind you, but worthless investments.

Was CW a preferred walk on, or just a guy that showed up at practice?

most teams use 8-10 player rotations...hope the ones not playing are getting better and working hard in practice...

The players you cited are freshmen. Who knows what will happen with their spots in the future, but not every freshman contributes to the team in year one. The times that I have seen DS on the floor, he seems to be a team player. We need that!

+1 and sometimes not even Sophomores contribute much but become standout Seniors. Some of you guys are a bit harsh on these guys. I'll keep faith that GF is doing the right things with player development. The one player I'm most worried about is MK. I like his happy go lucky attitude and is probably a great teammate but I expected to see him a bit more this year.

In my little experience, freshmen that don't redshirt usually see some minutes. All I am saying is we have two that do not, and I think that is a concern.

Hard to believe we aren't better this year. We return our best player in TB, we have healthy DSE, we return experience in WL, JE and JP. We have 4 new recruits who were hyped and yet we use a closer than expected loss to Creighton as a mark that we are getting better. Pretty sad. The truth is that this staff hasn't done a very good job with this team. Of the recruits GF has brought in only one, SS, has played significant minutes and made any contribution, and at times that has been little. The loss of SM and WE obviously hurt, but it is tiring reading KW talk about how are talent level doesn't match other teams. I think GF will do a good job, especially when he brings in his own players, but for a guy who loves to run up and down the floor he has the players on his roster now who can do it, and except for ONE game they have not been able to do it. KW and DR keep saying how the team plays hard, yes they do - but that has always been a trademark of BU teams. Our sweet little President, bless her heart, expected more of this group you can count on that. One of the reasons she wanted JL out was she was afraid with what BU had coming back the team would be good this year and she wouldn't be able to fire him. A new guy would come in and reap the rewards of having a veteran team and make her look good - then SM left and WE got hurt - kind of jumped up and backfired on her.

Good luck to GF and the Braves the rest of the year and in the future. GF doesn't make excuses (he has KW and DR to do that for him) and I like that.
The facts are this group has underachieved, they still have time to turn things around, I hope they do, but this coaching staff has been here since March/April - the success or failure of this team is their responsibility, not that of the previous staff's.

I love this and would not change a word in this message!! NICE

agreed....he sparked the "D" that made that comback vs CU...got the crowd excited too..at least most of the crowd :)

Woods gave Young fits trying to bring the ball up the floor , a couple of times Young could have been called for a foul because he was using his other hand to push Woods away from him, Woods wore him down.

Woods in an excellent defender and works hard at it - we need to use him in shifts against the opponents' best ballhandler or SG

Maybe we could use his defense against Karl Madison of Drake, possibly the quickest guard in the MVC.

I can't see how we have the players on the current roster for a run-and-gun offense. We have slowed down our offense and we have played better. Even with slowing down the offense, we are still fatigued in the second half as we do not utilize a deep bench. A run-and-gun offense with a small bench will result in us hitting the wall earlier in the game.

I have one last comment in this game thread...

A family of four had driven over from Iowa as they wanted to watch Doug McDermott ..... their kids knew him in school over there in Iowa...
They had bought tickets but came down and occupied the row of seats behind where I sit - as they wanted to get a better view..

BUT -- they weren't trying to be pushy fans and politely asked us if sitting there was OK (and I told them I figured they could unless the regular ticket folks came) ..
and they ended up sitting and enjoying the whole game and I talked at length with them about the game, about McD, and other things...
They comments frequently on how good the fans were for BU even tho we're on a losing streak, they liked the timeout promotions, the t-shirts & souvenir basketballs thrown into the crowd, the support the BU fans gave their guys (and old timers like Rob Dye), and just the general loud & fun atmosphere.

Then as they left to exit after the game - the dad in the family made a particular point to come over to tell me that not only did his family have a great time (of course, their guys won) but that they thoroughly enjoyed their visit to a Bradley game and he described the Bradley fans in glowing positives...
..and said they felt as though they were treated exceptionally well even though they wore apparel that clearly identified themselves as "the enemy"...

I was happy to hear his comments as I know there are a few places in the Valley he would NOT have been treated well at all... and I think you know where I mean.
I hope Bobby Parker reads this as I felt you guys do us proud among visiting fans!!

Thanks for your opinion but I disagree with most of it....

I bet if we were both 1 and 2 in the valley sitting at 1 and 2 in the nation 25-0 each.............there would be less BU fans being warm towards CU fans.......:-o

This is probably more of a reflection of the people who sit in that section. Everyone around these people were polite and did not get personal with this dad and his kids despite them sitting in the wrong seats. I don't think Bobby or anyone else from Bradley (except security) had anything to do with their experience. But....it sure is a story they (BU) like being told.

Can't say I agree with much there...I am just glad you didn't go after the players too...GO BU!

I won't comment other than to say that this is the sentiment of a significant number of Bradley fans. I have heard it from many.

I think I need a nap after reading that. Way over the top. Way too negative for me.

I think if you took some tweezers you could pick out a couple of valid points, but overall just too darn negative.

I didn't like the over-the-top JL negativity, and I don't like the GF stuff either.

I am honestly surprised at how well Taylor has played on the offensive end. Any athlete that takes a year off from their sport struggles coming back, and he took an entire season off from physical activity.

DSE isn't the same DSE that caught fire the last few weeks of the 2011 season.

I think that every recruit at every program has been hyped up since the beginning of message boards. Although I don't remember the same level of hype for Wells and Stewart as I do for Shayok and Crawford. I believe everyone realized Hodges was more of a project/redshirt candidate type.

I also believe that Geno will do a good job. I believe he is doing a good job right now. I believe people fail to realize this team lost 3 starters plus Maniscalco from a last place team when evaluating what was left for this year. Yes the return of Taylor is nice, but the depth of this team wasn't there regardless of coaching staff. You can never rely on an average freshman to contribute on a consistent basis at a mid major level, and whomever coached this team was going to be faced with that proposition.

I also do not believe this is a team that is able to run up and down the court.

And I will leave the sexist Glasser commentary alone.
