Bradley Braves Examiner: MVC players in the NBA

Another one who played 1 season in the MVC was Michael Ruffin. He played 4 years at Tulsa, but after his freshman season in 1995-96, Tulsa left the MVC. He was drafted by the Bulls in in the 2nd round (32nd pick) 1999 and has been in the NBA for 9 seasons.

Wow....only eight MVC players drafted since Hersey Hawkins...
--TWO (Collier, Hill) never played a game in the NBA
--and one more played a total of only 3 minutes in the NBA
--then one played a little over 200 games but had a prolific history of drug use and abuse
--Carr played in 297 games, Korver is still active after over 400 games, O'Bryant has played 80 games but is just in his 3rd season, and Anthony Parker is still active after nearly 300 games.

And you forgot Carlton McKinney of Tulsa who played in the NBA in 1989-1992 and one other, that's kinda marginal...
Recall that West Texas was a member of the MVC up until 1985-1986, and one of the kids on that squad, who played in
both 1984-85 and 1985-86 was Orlando Graham, who ended up getting drafted in 1988, so he did play two years in the Valley
and got drafted in the 2nd round in 1988.

By the way....Joe....can we also include Maurice Evans and Danny Granger?
They did play in the MVC, but didn't "finish their amateur career" in the Valley.

also-- one other kid who committed to an MVC school and even signed a LOI has played in the NBA, anyone remember who it was?

no-- I am thinking of Anthony Grundy...who ignored his LOI and went to NC State and played a few games in the NBA.

I totally got that confused. I knew MO signed Grundy but was thinking it was Lee...geez I was only off about what 6-10 years? The old age is really setting in:eek:

For some reason, I thought McKinney graduated before 1988, because he was 25 when he played in the NBA for the first time.

You are right about Graham, Evans and Granger, but they didn't meet the extremely tight :) criteria I set. It's possible that I did that on purpose so that Granger didn't appear...

The other player that didn't qualify because of the rules was Shea Seals.
 
BTW - Thanks for posting my article on here. I always feel a little bad propping up my own stuff on this site, but I know you all are loyal fans and would probably be interested in any pub the MVC gets.

BTW II - It should be noted that Cuonzo Martin was selected with the pick immediately after Chris Carr in 1995 - another Valley connection.

d dub -- Yup. But this article has to do with players who ended their college career in the MVC.

Any list that excludes Granger is fine with me.
