BU recruit 2014- Josh Cunningham

It will be the first year in awhile if not any transfer or leave the program. We have even had more than one in some years.

Yes - here are the numbers of scholarships (for one reason or another)
that opened unexpectedly each spring - there may be some I missed - lmk:

2012-13 - 3 (Tucker, Shayok, Crawford)
2011-12 - 2 (Stewart, Hodges)
2010-11 - 4 (Abell, Harris, Maniscalco, Davis)
2009-10 - 1 (McCain)
2008-09 - 1 (Norris)
2007-08 - 2 (Austin, Cole-Scott)
2006-07 - 2 (Brown, Jassey)
2005-06 - 1 (O'Bryant)
2004-05 - 2 (Rembert, Stemler)
2003-04 - 2 (Suggs, Paul)
2002-03 - 2 (Granger, Marcetic)
2001-02 - 2 (Tucker, Tisby)
2000-01 - 1 (Corbitt)
1999-00 - 4 (Selby, Flanders, Clancy, Biddlecomb, Brown)
1998-99 - 4 (Lee, Kirsch, Atkins, Schairer)
1997-98 - 2 (Moran, Collins)
1996-97 - 2 (Grundy, Rigby)

as you can see - Mo had a lot of unexpected turnover the final few years and it led to him having to go out and get a bunch of freshmen for 00-01 & 01-02 and the subsequent drop off
in wins led to him getting fired - EVEN THOUGH - those freshmen he brought in in 00-01 & 01-02 turned out to be GREAT players (Gillingham, Gilbert, Cello, Granger, Tisby, Tucker).
then the rate slowed down considerably all the way thru the JL years to just 1-2 per year and has picked up again to about 3/yr.
I did not count Michael Ochereobia, Xavier Crawford, John Wilkins because they were never firmly in the fold thus they never had a scholarship actually committed to them
...they were never firmly committed, nor admitted, nor sign a LOI...only those who did are noted.

BTW - Josh Cunningham had 14 pts, 6 rebs last night - Kain Harris had 20

Here's a surprise...

A 3rd quarter score...
Morgan Park 44 - Nationally #1 ranked Simeon 36...
Josh Cunningham has 17 but is currently starting the 4th on the bench with 4 fouls

If Morgan Park takes down Simeon then Cunningham's gonna be getting calls from Coach K

tie game in final minute 53-53

then Kain Harris hit 2 FT's and Morgan Park is now up 55-53

then Ed Morrow scores for Simeon - to tie again

Simeon is named for Neal Ferdinand Simeon, a Chicago Phillips HS grad and IIT grad who became a great, lifelong educator in Chicago schools...tho his life was ended early at 46 ..

Morgan Park - another 2 pts from Kain Harris then a FT from Cunningham - wins 58-55
sadly some unnecessary loudmouth activity then the security people swarm everywhere...let's hope people realize it is a game.
Cunningham with 20, Kain Harris with 16 - Simeon might have the best team but Morgan Park may have the two best players

this is what you call showcasing - he never came out of a 30-pt blowout...
..he is likely disappearing over the horizon, as the statement yelled at him at the end of the game is noted in the article.

Cunningham never came out of the game, finishing with a career-high 37 points, 19 rebounds, and five blocks.

Morgan Park coach Nick Irvin said:
“My dad and my coaches have always taught me that if a guy is in a rhythm like that to keep him in and it wasn’t any disrespect for the other team,” Morgan Park coach Nick Irvin said. “He came out with a statement today.”

Does everyone agree? Basically, he's saying that no matter how bad you are beating your opponent, it's OK to leave your stars in the game to pad their numbers.
I don't think most coaches would agree with this philosophy.

We have not had a good history signing highly recruited players, especially in the spring. I wonder if the staff has moved on to junior college players.

BU coach Geno Ford stopped in Normal on the way back from Terre Haute, to watch Chicago Morgan Park play Normal U, High tonight. He is checking in on Josh Cunningham, and a couple other Morgan Park kids.

Per Roy Schmidt, Josh Cunningham has eliminated Iowa State and has a final 6 of Bradley, Creighton, DePaul, Okla., Indiana and S Carolina.

based on what's been reported I don't believe he has taken an official visit to Indiana or South Carolina..so we may even have a chance of making his final 3 or 4

Indiana's Rivals page has an article about IU's interest in Josh Cunningham-
Four-Star Forward Hearing from Indiana
http://indiana.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1603274

Josh is now a 4-star recruit. Here are some quotes from the article:
"Josh... is now hearing from the Hoosiers"
"The Hoosiers are in the early stages with Cunningham, talking to him and his coaches and building a relationship"
"Cunnigham told Peegs.com that Indiana, Creighton, Oklahoma, DePaul, Bradley and South Carolina are the schools he's hearing from the most. "But I'm wide open"
"Cunningham has visited Creighton, Iowa State, Northwestern and Oklahoma. He has offers from DePaul, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Creighton and others"

I guess Bradley must be included in the "and others". :)
