BU recruit- class of 2008- Mike Burwell

Burwell might end up being a nice player, but I hope Les is pursuing guys like Beckham, Anderson, Nunn, Kaylon Williams, etc. as the primary options for the last scholarship...

If he ends up coming here, I'll trust the judgement of the coaching staff and hope for the best...
I just want Les to aim high as is realistic with that last spot...
We'll just have to hope for Burwell to become another diamond in the rough for BU...

Agree completly er3.. I like Anderson a lot!

Sounds like he has already been here.

"As his season progressed, so did the attention from colleges. Burwell has scheduled four official recruiting visits, beginning with Bradley this weekend. He will also visit Old Dominion, St. Bonaventure and San Diego and is keeping his options open for a possible fifth visit."

I asked around a little, and nobody I have talked to thinks Burwell has been here for a visit, yet. He still might have been here the previous weekend (March 29-30), but that weekend the team was very busy getting ready for the 3 game CBI finals. This past weekend, was an NCAA "dead period" which means he could not have been in for a visit, as all contact and recruit visits are barred.

I wonder if Burwell has signed with anyone yet...I tried a search and came up with nothing?
Did we ever find out if he ever did visit the Hilltop or not?

No, I haven't found anything to suggest that Burwell has committed anywhere, yet.

And also, I can't confirm that Larry Anderson has actually committed to Long Beach State. His Scout profile was updated yesterday to show he committed to Long Beach State, but no other recruiting site anywhere confirms this. Scout sometimes gets players mixed up, and there was another prep school commitment to Long Beach State posted today on several other recruiting sites.--

I think it is a possibility Anderson might still be undecided, as this ESPN page, that was updated today, says--

I wonder if Burwell would be a possibility for BU after one year of prep school? I haven't heard him mentioned so probably not, but he would play the position that we would be looking for.

My guess is that it's not likely.

Here was the latest--
Former Cardinal McCarrick standout Mike Burwell is headed to South Kent (Conn.). "Mike qualified for college but he's looking to go to a higher level of schools," McCarrick coach Joe Lewis said. "Most of the schools that offered him are high mid-majors and I think after a year of lifting and playing all year, he will get to a major conference." Michigan and Indiana are recruiting him the hardest, as well as South Florida, UMass and UCLA, Lewis said. The 6-5 1/2 Burwell averaged 29.7 points and 11/7 rebounds for a team that won the Middlesex County championship and reached the semis of the South Non-Public B tournament.

It sounds like he wasn't impressed with an offer from Bradley.

Former BU recruit from last spring, Mike Burwell, decided on a year of prep school to try to improve his offers. He thought he could do better than the offers he had from Bradley, Old Dominion, Colorado State, San Diego, and St. Bonaventure.

After spending this past year at South Kent prep school, where he was their leading scorer, he committed to University of South Florida.
I've been there, and it's a beautiful campus, even if the basketball team is a bottom dweller in the Big East.

Other offers were from Evansville, Northern Iowa, South Alabama, Rutgers, and Fordham.

Here are a couple clips from the premium article-
Burwell, 6??™6-200 pounds is currently playing at South Kent where he is the team??™s leading scorer and is gearing up for the playoffs which start Wednesday.

???Mike??™s a scorer, and will be able to score at any level,??? said Kent Head Coach Kelvin Jefferson. ???He??™s a big guard that can really stretch out defenses with his range on his jump shot, and get hit from well beyond the 3-point line. He also has the ability to get by defenders and has a good mid game as well???

The Bulls started following Burwell in high school when he averaged over 29 points, 11 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game as a senior at Cardinal McCormick HS in South Amboy, NJ.

Burwell had offers from schools like
Fordham, Rutgers, Evansville, UCF, South Alabama, Northern Iowa and had plenty of other interest before choosing USF.

Burwell is a combo guard and was a full qualifier coming out of Cardinal McCormick, but decided that attending prep school for a year was the best avenue for him.

???I was only 17 coming out of high school and thought another year of maturity would help me. I??™ve been playing on one of the higher levels in the nation on one of the top scoring teams in the country, and it has helped me greatly.???

One time Bradley recruit Mike Burwell from East Brunswick, NJ, has struggled to find a place he can play. After 1 year at a New England prep school, he got a scholarship to Big East bottom dweller University of South Florida. He played sparingly for 2 years, and now is transferring. He will go to Towson State.

He averaged 1.5 ppg over 2 seasons at USF.
