CBI and CI postseason tournaments

There are 129 spots available for the 4 postseason tournament. With our RPI of 100 according to CBS sportsline it would appear we would get and invite. Sagarin has us at 110 and Pomeroy at 123.
Given that some of the 129 spots go to automatic bids from teams worse than the top 129, it could be a close call depending on what data the invite commitees are looking at.
I think everyone agrees that the NCAA and NIT are out. That leave the CBI and the new Collegeinsider.com. I would think a couple things might work in our favor to get one of these. First, these tournaments are about making money and our fan base and attendence have to help with that. Second, I suspect some team that get invited might turn it down if it means they are required to give a financial gaurentee to the tournament.
All that said, I think it looks like we will get an invite to the CBI or the CI. The question then becomes, do we want it.
Jim Les said he wants to play and DC and TW wants to play. They want to play but is it in the budget. The economy is tough and most business and colleges are cutting back.
I hope we do it as it is an investment in the future. It would be great to get a few more games for our seniors and get some minutes to our guys who have to grow up next year.
I will be interesting to see what we do.
 
I would suspect that we can make money in these tournaments! I also like the idea of the coaching staff getting the chance to continue teaching these guys!
I wish that the NCAA did allow coaches to participate during the summer! Why does the NCAA limit this?
 
We don't have an NIT profile.

However, compare the non NCAA and NIT teams and we have a very good profile, and a track record of good attendance at the CBI.

We're a lock for 2 home games in either tournament. Case closed.
 
That is pretty much what I think too. I guess the question comes down to do we want to play. I my mind, that boils down to money.
If memory serves me, I think BU said they pretty much broke even on the CBI. I thought they also said that if we would have lost early and went home early we would have lost money. I think our attendence went up with each game we played.
So if we broke even last year under the best case senario, what about this year when the economy is working against us and we have no gaurentee that we will get an old rivalry like Tulsa to help things out.
I think most everybody wants to play it just comes down to money.
 
Hey CBI ain't no NCAA or NIT but, it does alow Bradley basketball fans to continue to watch our team play in March.

Last year provided us some post season BCS matchups w/ Cincinnati and Virginia, and playing three games againt our old rival Tulsa was exciting.

I am looking at the positives and am eager to see how things shake down in the CBI for us.

Why wouldn't we want to play? I know there are some posters here that don't think this tournament is worth the hassle, but I don't think Les and his players feel that way. As far as the economy is concerned, that would be up to the athletic department and administration if they have the money to put into these tournaments. And this is still a pretty affordable way to kill some time for most fans.

Just curious braveatheart if you don't think this tournament is worth playing or if you feel the economy can hurt our participation more than it would help it. I know you said before that playing extra games is a good thing, but I'm observing a bit of hesitation on your part by the tone of your original post. However I may be way off base so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. :D

Exactly. If it's a home game we're looking for, we don't want an "NIT profile" since we would be at the bottom of that list!
 
These tournaments need to make ticket prices more reasonable in order to draw more fans as with the economy down it will not be easy to sell a lot of tickets at 20.00 or more , they need to look at special prices for the upper bowl (2 tickets for 25.00 ) if they want to get more people in these seats.
 
I have heard that the price to compete in the CI.com Tournament is about half of what it costs to play in the CBI. I think if given a choice, BU will pick the CI.com Tournament for that reason.

That would be a price increase since upper bowl tickets were $12 last year.
 
It would be INSANE to turn down the chance for another 20-win season and tournament experience for our young guys on the basis of either arrogance or economics. No matter what you think of these tourneys, "4 straight 20-win seasons" is a nice thing to be able to say to recruits. Especially since 5, 6, and 7 look like they're pretty good bets.

because of tournaments like these, 20 wins aint what it used to be.....i would probably say that 23 - 25 is the 'new 20' Big difference in 4 straight nit/ncaa appearances to 4 straight 20 win/postseason appearances

Sometimes attendance goes up in a recessionary environment...(movie ticket sales are up)... People like escapism if the price is right..

Home Games?

Home Games?

I looked up the dates for games in the CBI and CI to see if we had available civic center for all games.It looks like we do. That is unless it takes several days to set up for the IHSA. One week the games would be Monday or Tuesday and the IHSA is scheduled for friday. I hope the CIVIC CENTER website is correct on it's schedule.

I don't think you realize just how badly the economy is affecting most colleges and universities. I have family members working in multiple universities and the least I can say is that their departments are being asked to cut expenses any chance they get due to the economy.

Unlike last year, I would have no problem if Bradley analyzes its own situation and doesn't want to take on the risk of one of these tournaments. However, if the CI.com tourney is half the price of the CBI, I can't see how Bradley couldn't make its money back there.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I am all for it. The only downside I can see is potentially cost. My guess is it probably won't cost too much.
I don't know Bradley's money situation this year. A lot of business and non-profits and goverments are looking at cutting budgets 5% or more. If that is the case for the athletic director then he would have to decide wether he can work this into the budget or not.
Endowments are down significantly, I would guess donations are down and I suspect BU has to watch costs even in the best of times. If I was Ken Kavanaugh and had to decide between the CBI and laying off 1 employee, I would have a very tough decision to make. When you are the one who has to lay someone off or cut everyones pay you look at things a little differently. Maybe we are not in that situation, I don't know.
Bradleybrave said, the CI is half the cost of the CBI. I am sure that will be a factor for a lot of schools. Maybe even Bradley.
If we can swing it financially, I am all in.
 
If we are "invited," then I want in. I think you can sell the tickets if you publicize it and reduce rates accordingly. Last year we had almost no time to organize for the CBI. For what it's worth, both players I talked to in StL thought that we were in for one of the tourneys.
