Coaching Carousel

Wardle's been mentioned numerous times over the years for various positions, but nothing beyond the "mention" stage. If Loyola were to hire him, they would have to at least match his current salary. Would be more of an incentive for BW to get more than his current salary to take into account the higher cost of living in the Chicago area. Also, have to take into account whether or not he would want to inherit a dumpster fire at Loyola just like he did at BU.
BW has built a winning program here,
Valentine has tanked a winning program there. (about to go 1-9 in A10 & 14th/;ast place, avoiding 15th place only because UMass left the A-10)
Would BW want to start from scratch again and take over for a failed program?

BW and his FAMILY won’t leave BU at this time. By the way, Rienk Mast(Nebraska), Connor Hickman(College of Charleston) and Almar Atlason(Miami of Ohio) are all scoring in double figures and are on winning teams. Nebraska 20-1, Charleston 14-8 and Miami 21-0! Give credit to BU and Coach Wardle!

Mark Turgeon to be hired by UMKC
MVC fans remember Mark Turgeon well. He was a successful and well liked head coach at Wichita State from 2000-2007, then spent 4 seasons at Texas A&M, then at Maryland from 2011-2021. He left Maryland "by mutual agreement" on Dec. 3, 2021, 8 games into the 2021-22 season, after a pretty successful run. He tied for the regular season title in the Big Ten in 2020, and qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 6 of his last 7 seasons at Maryland. But his failure to advance past the Sweet 16 and a poor 5-3 start to the 2021-22 season lead to mounting fan demand for a change, contributing to his departure. So he has been out of coaching since December 3, 2021. He has done some TV commentary on basketball games, and is involved with coaching consulting work.
This seems like a great hire for Kansas City. I am surprised Wichita State never brought him back after they got rid of Gregg Marshall.

Mark Turgeon to be hired by UMKC
it is now official

Crazy seeing Turgeon back at a midwest mid-major. That 2006 Les/Turgeon Semifinal in STL was a must-win for us to get in the tournament. I think we were actually the favorite despite WSU being the 1-seed.

I miss those days. Feb/March 2006 was as much fun as I’ve ever had as a sports fan.

a couple sources list Marquette (Shaka Smart) on the hot seat in his 5th year there. ....
Growing rumors that Marquette's Shaka Smart is on the way out including some supposed
quotes from insiders that internal talks are already looking at candidates.

Besides Josh Schertz, I kinda suspect who else will get a call.........

That's not going to happen.
Shaka Smart is a terrific coach. Check his coaching record- https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/coaches/shaka-smart-1.html
He took over a losing program at Marquette and in his first 4 seasons, he averaged 25 wins and made the NCAA Tournament every year. Now in his 5th season, he is struggling, but they were picked for the middle of the conference in the Big East Preseason poll and everyone expected a step back and a rebuilding season this year. Every school has a few debbie downer fans who expect championships every year or they want their coach fired.

Kansas State just fired head coach Jerome Tang
Three years ago he had them Top 10 ranked and Elite Eight
The buyout requires Kansas State to pay him a reported $18 million!

I’m thinking Marquette & maybe K-State, Notre Dame and a few others will be calling Josh Schertz in March
there will be several but Schertz may not want to pick a team with zero holdover talent...
Schertz won't be able to haul Avila with him this time

oh, just their leading scorer and best player last year at Saint Louis Jimerson (18 ppg) plus McCottry, Thames & Hughes

when he took over Indiana State he inherited his best player there, too - Neese (15 ppg), Julian Larry & Stephens

I would differ. The holdovers at Indiana State, Kailex Stephens, Julian Larry, and Cooper Neese, combined for a total of 13.5 ppg the year before Schertz got there. They went 11-20, 4-14 in Schertz's first year. He built a winner there with his own recruits.
And pretty much the same for St. Louis. Jimerson was nice player. Thames was a 6 ppg scorer, and Hughes had potential but was a malcontent. He left a month into Schertz's first season. And, McCottrey was not there when Schertz was hired. He signed him-
Again, Schertz built a winner at St. Louis with his own recruits. What he inherited was minimal.

With the transfer portal and every player is essentially a free agent every year - coaches can rebuild a roster every year limited only by how much money they have access to in order to buy the talent. So for a coach to consider going to a school like Kansas State, their main question of the school will be "how much nil money am I gonna be working with" and that will have a huge impact on whether they wanna take the job.

Isn't Ben Jacobson coach for life at UNI? Why is he on this list?
Nothing is guaranteed for life if enough money is offered. IMO.
Personally, I think Jacobson's window of opportunity to move to a higher job may be closing. UNI is not having the kind of year everyone expected. They were picked 2nd behind Illinois State, and they are currently tied for 5th place. 4 of their top 6 scorers are seniors, and Jacobson has not had much success in the portal.
