1.) You could also say we were recruiting over Sam Maniscalco, and Dodie Dunson with the Norris signing. I think we were recruiting to replace Daniel Ruffin with the Norris signing, since that is the type of player that Norris most resembles, and I believe it is a type of point guard that Coach Les likes.

2.) With 4 new guards in the picture for next year, he stood to see very little playing time.


3.) By the way, we are constantly told that the newspapers always check out and verify their stories and sources. But did I miss where anyone tried to verify any of what TCS's father is claiming? It should be awful easy to produce this infamous text message from coach Bish.
When will we see them?

DC I broke your post down to 3 points for simplicity.

1.) We could say that we were recruiting over SamM and Dunson, but SamM and DD have realistic chances to see significant PT next year. Therefore I stand by my statement that we recruited players over TCS as TCS wasnt a fit for us and TCS wasnt going to see the floor much with 6 guards in front of him unless he made drastic improvements with his game.

If Norris was recruited to replace Ruffin, then what about Eddren Mccain? Mccain has been described as a Ruffin type player by the staff.

2.) Probably the real reason TCS left and this supports my statement. Also dont like us recruiting this many guards in one recruiting class. Hopefully there is a chance for us to get a forward!

3.) Agree..It should be very easy to produce the text message... Wonder if the PJS will take the next step to see if the message actually exists?

So you want the PJS to completely ignore the story simply because TCS' father didn't present any concrete evidence? Why? His dad making these claims is a big enough deal that it's worth printing. The story never once claims that any of this is fact. It simply states the things his dad is claiming, and attributes all the accusations to his father. Exactly what is wrong with that?

Good question. I didn't notice any type of 'spin' by PJS, just reporting the news. These 'he said, she said' things are in papers all over the country every single day. Why some thing BU should be immune to them is beyond me. If we ran a kid off, oh well. Welcome to the cold, harsh world of Division I college basketball.

Personally, I find it hard to believe TCS was "forced out" now because it's so late in the signing period. Had it happened right after he met with Les, I might be more likely to believe his (father's) account.

That is one way to interpret it...and it may very well be the way that everything actually did occur...who knows? There are a million possibilities here...
Maybe a recruit that BU really, really likes contacted the coaching staff last weekend and let them know that the offer that he thought would be coming from another school fell through at the last minute, and that he'd really love to come to BU if there was a any way that a scholarship could be made available for him...
Maybe a recruit that they really like but was thought to be an academic non-qualifier called and said he got a qualifying test score when he re-took the ACT, and would love to come to BU if there is still a spot for him.

Do I know if any of these scenarios actually happened?...no. I just don't think we can look at the timing of this move and say that since it happened so late in the recruiting season, that is irrefutable evidence that proves that TCS wasn't forced out, encouraged to leave, etc...There are still some quality guys out there that could help BU, so I don't think that it is a silly notion to think that BU might have wanted to open up a scholarship for someone that they thought would contribute to this program over the next 2 to 4 years....
This is all just speculation, of course...If the summer goes by and the open spot doesn't get filled, then I would assume that everyone that is speculating that TCS left on his own in this situation was probably right...

Come on. When someone makes an accusatory claim that someone like Jim Les did something wrong, I simply do not believe anyone would expect Jim Les to have the burden to prove that he is not guilty of this.

The responsibility here is 100% on TCS's father, or the PJS to show some kind of substantiation of the claims.

Maybe you don't agree. But then should posters here be required to prove that they have stopped beating their wives?

JC is a good ex. as are more than half of Jucos around the country. How many struggle the first year only to "blossom" to some degree year 2. I actually held out hope for TCS.

Think of guys like Doug Rabey....Slack from ISU to name a few. HORRIBLE 1st years followed by good 2nd years.

I don't really care what other programs do as much as I care about what BU does and the results that come with. I don't think anywhere in my post did I question how BU did or did not handle this situation. I just want BU to get better....period. I have never said that the staff is doing a bad job, just that they need to do a better job of recruiting and coaching to get to the level I would like the team to be at consistently. I am not asking for a change in the coaching personnel, just better results. I think the results are mediocre, and I think and want them to be better. My opinion is that better recruiting and better coaching of fundamentals, defense and rebounding will get BU where I would be happy. Is it OK to want that in your opinion?

I want the same things, of course. But I don't think it's realistic to think these kinds of things won't happen. I would rather the situation be rectified by TCS moving elsewhere, where he can play and contribute and allow Bradley to move on. That is the best outcome for everyone.

So now you want to come up with a million remotely possible scenarios, when there are only 2 on the table to choose from. I think the truth lies with one of these 2 stories we've already heard. And only 1 side seems to have an axe to grind. The other side has no reason to lie.
And also, will you only believe Jim Les if he doesn't use the scholarship again? That is not reasonable. I would expect that he will try to find another player, or seek out a transfer, since there are serveral good ones available. There are plenty of scholarships available in 2009, so I would rather see it used now if there is someone that can help BU.

My opinion on this is Cole-Scott was told he would have to improve a lot if he expected to get more minutes next season and he decided that there was no future for him at BU.(end of story) If Bradley does bring in another recruit it is because he decided to leave on his own.

If BU can get a good value recruit at this late date I would be happy, and to me it wouldn't prove anything either way about the TCS situation. For the record, it doesn't bother me if a kid is nudged/pushed out of a program. We will never know all of the facts. The bottom line is TCS did not contribute what a junior should have last year. In my opinion he was not going to contribute in his senior year. I think JL will help in any way possible to find TCS a better situation. If any of the information about not working hard or coming to workouts are true.......well than his leaving would not be a bad thing in my book. Let's face it, this is a business.....big business.

One last question...
The PJS wanted BU to be very forceful and dole out big time punishment for the alcohol violations...even just the underage drinking citation. Had TCS been dismissed then, had his scholarship yanked, would the PJS had been any happier?
Isn't that kinda what they seemed to be after....strong discipline!! OK...then you got what you wanted, so give it up now!

I'm not saying Les did anything wrong...I'm not asking him to prove that he is not guilty of anything here. It's Div I athletics...stuff like this happens every day...It isn't a big deal, IMO...regardless of what really happened here.

I'm just saying that I don't see why the counter-story that TCS' father provided to the PJ Star should have been held back until the paper had the supposed text message in their possession...or until TCS' dad passed a polygraph test...or 15 character witnesses came forward to vouch for TCS' dad's unquestionable integrity.
This isn't a criminal trial...There isn't a guilty/not guilty verdict hanging in the balance here...No laws were broken here, so the paper just published each side's version of the events...I don't see why that is such a big deal.
Could TCS' father just be fabricating a story out of 'sour grapes' over the whole situation? Absolutely. Could his story be accurate? Absolutely.
Could the BU staff be spinning the story so it looks better on them? Absolutely. Could their story be absolutely true? Absolutely.
Who knows the real truth? Not us, that's for sure.

So if Les knew this and was lying, he would have much more to lose if it could then be produced by the TCS family.

Where did I say that I don't believe Les? I have no idea what happened. You think there are only two possible true stories here. That's fine. I happen to think there are a million shades of grey between the two, and the truth lies somewhere in between.
I would say that Les's version is probably closer to the truth, if I had to lean one way or the other...but honestly, that is total guesswork on my part...
And I, too, hope that BU can fill the last scholarship in this class rather than banking it for next year...

The two incidents are completely separate from each other. One was an issue that was completely off-the-court. The other is one that is (for the most part) dealing with on-the-court stuff. I have no idea how you can place the two of them together.

I agree with you on that. And I know it's not against the rules, but I'm not a fan of assistants sending alleged text messages saying they'd make a player's life a living hell. I think most other people would have those same sentiments.

Many or some may have seen it as the biggest story of the season, but I didn't. I really don't worry too much about what the media says. They are wrong sometimes and they are right sometimes. I have no problem with them questioning things that they see as not right. Sometimes it makes people sit up and question things. I think the biggest story is that BU underperformed. Of course that is only my opinion.
