Cole-Scott leaves BU

I agree with you on that. And I know it's not against the rules, but I'm not a fan of assistants sending alleged text messages saying they'd make a player's life a living hell. I think most other people would have those same sentiments.

I still say it depends on the context.

If it was in the context of, "I do not like the way you are moping around campus, I want to make you a better player, so I'm going to make your life a living h - e double hockey sticks" (EB just left off the "Next year, you'll be graduating as a proud Brave, like JC, because you know you gave it your al"l)
I would expect similiar comments from a RMK or coack K type authoritian coach to any player that is under performing, not to kick the player out, but to make them better.

To me it depends on the relationship the two have established.....if my boss at work sent me a letter saying the same thing I would totally understand where they were coming from and would understand its context and meaning within that context.

Signed Release

Signed Release

Can someone tell me when TCS signed his release of his scholarship! I'm not sure if it was after he first told JL he was leaving in April or just this week?

I completely agree. I would not be suprised if there was a text message sent to TCS that said something close to what Mr. Scott is saying. But as a coach to player exchange, I would consider that a challenge not a threat. Like, "I'm going to bust your *ss, but it's going to make you better." I think that most people that have played basketball at a competitive level have dealt with harsh or intimidating remarks from their coach trying to motivate them. Some people decide they don't need the abuse, others embrace the challenge and take their game/effort to the next level. Every coach in the country has said things to their players that, taken out of context, sound pretty terrible.

I can understand that TCS and his family have probably built up some frustration from his lack of opportunities in the second half of the season, but it seems like if the goal is to get Ty into a better basketball situation, that you wouldn't want to burn the bridge with your most valuable basketball connection and/or give other interested coaches the idea that you would be a hassle to deal with.

So there wasn't a text message that we've all been speculating about?

I'll be honest, I haven't followed this story too closely. The guy wasn't going to play next year. I'm happy he finished out the semester and didn't hurt himself academically or the program. To fire a couple of parting shots by him or his family is to be expected. I haven't seen too many fired coworkers walk away happy.

I did get a kick out of Dave's advice for him to work on his shooting, ballhandling and defense. Other than that, he's fine.

Thanks for posting that link. I find it amazing that this new revelation that there was never a text message is not mentioned at all in today's Peoria Journal Star, despite the fact that Dave Reynolds did have a column.

Considering this entire inflammatory situation was generated by Tyrone Cole-Scott's erroneous claim that a threatening text mail was sent by Coach Buescher to TCS, and it lead to charges that Bradley was forcing TCS out, and that the entire situation is a "travesty" and a "farce". I think the very least the PJS must do is publish the truth to this matter in the newspaper where the original erroneous story was published, not just in an obscure blog page. Or maybe the truth is not as important as long as there is a good story.

By publishing only the erroneous side of the story, it has opened the door to the Bradley bashers and the Jim Les haters to try to make a big deal out of this routine situation. Now it is clear the coaches did nothing improper. And as Dave Reynolds quoted Jim Les

Why would Mr. Scott make this stuff up? Im not saying its true or not but what do you think his motive to lie is? If TCS was really going to be able to stay and the coaches were going to let him try to earn minutes why would his father make these statements? It seems strange to me that he would make up a specific story about an assitant coach sending a text message to his son.

I hope this question is now answered. The story by Mr. Scott was fabricated probably from a misunderstanding of what actually happened.

More from the Dave Reynolds blog page--

Tyrone Cole-Scott broke his silence Wednesday when he placed a phone call to me at the office... Not much new was revealed. He set the record straight regarding the inflammatory alleged comment from BU associate head coach Eric Buescher.
???It wasn??™t a text message, it was something he said to me,??? Cole-Scott said.

I would say that is indeed something new. I think that is a substantial difference from the story Mr. Scott called the PJS to promote.

???I was quiet about it the last month because I wanted to leave on a good note,??? Cole-Scott said. ???My dad was like, ???No, this isn??™t right. They brushed you off.??™ I just wanted to stay quiet and leave.???

So it appears TCS just wanted to leave quietly, but it was his father all along who wanted to stir the pot and make a big public deal out of what is a routine matter between the university and the scholarship player.

I came in and did what I was supposed to do and didn??™t argue with ???em one time. I scored 36 points against St. Ambrose and then I??™m not even starting the next game. That was the only time I really got a chance to play and they told me when they recruited me, I was going to replace Will Franklin.???

What? He expected to start for Bradley because he scored 36 points in a meaningless exhibition game against St. Ambrose? I guess Jeremy Crouch should have been benched after that game! And to say the St. Ambrose game was the only game he had a chance to play is mind-boggling. Everyone who watched the games this past year saw TCS play in 27 games, and average more minutes than any other non-starting player.

What did he do in that time to deserve to play more?
Tyrone shot just 31.5% from the field, 24.1% from three, 53.3% from the free throw line, he had 29 turnovers to only 22 assists, and a woeful 0.76 assist/turnover ratio. He was recruited to replace Will Franklin. But TCS, I knew Will Franklin, and you, sir, are no Will Franklin!
Tyrone should have just followed his own advice and kept quiet and left on good terms.

but in the same vein...this new revelation shouldn't buried on the 7th page of a thread nobody is following any more....thus a new thread is warranted.

I don't understand how everything TCS has said becomes a lie because the statement from Coach Bish was verbal and not in a text. There's nothing wrong with showing support for the coaching staff in this situation, but I don't think it's necessary to bash Ty or his family. It's clear they are frustrated with the way things went during his time at BU and they have every right to voice that frustration....even if it's not in TCS's best interest to do so. As far as his big game against St. Ambrose, people on this board were plugging him into their starter predictions and comparing him to Gilbert Arenas after that game...I don't think it's unreasonable for TCS to feel like he should have cracked the starting lineup back then. I think TCS is a very capable athlete and I'm bummed that he didn't get a second opportunity to prove he can be a valuable D1 player. I hope he's able to have a succesful season somewhere else and both sides are able to put this behind them.

I agree . Lets all wish him well and move on.

Say WHAT!? You're kidding, right? No second opportunity?!

Geez!

Cole-Scott did play great against St.Ambrose at the Fieldhouse and from what I had heard shot the ball great in practice at the Fieldhouse; some players have trouble shooting in a more open arena which does not have a background like the fieldhouse and from what I saw in his pre-game warmups he did not shoot well at Carver; he could have stayed and worked his tail off to earn his minutes but he chose to leave so I hope things work out for him ; he is the first player that I can recall to blame the staff since Jim Les has been head coach.
