Duke getting killed

Duke down by 24 w/ 8 minutes to go @ Clemson. Coach K making line changes to no avail. They finally got to 40 points.

Imagine what their practices will be like the rest of the week. Probably have one when they get home.

74-47 Clemson FINAL...

Man these ACC schools are OBSESSED with rushing the court...

FINAL: Clemson 74 Duke 47

Announcers said Clemson is 1 of the few teams to score more the 70 against Duke and no one could remember the last time Duje scored under 50

Oklahoma was loosing w/ about 6 minutes to go. Imagine the odds of 1, 2, & 3 going down on the same night.

Oklahoma came back to win 77-71 against Texas A&M.

I want to rush the court once in my life.

So do I. But it's got to be the right game. We win the Valley, I think it would happen. If we would have beat Michigan State last year, I think it would have happened. But it can't happen against, say, isu. Because that would mean that their program is better then ours. And some of us refuse to admit that.

"And after losing the starting spot, Paulus has lost most of his mojo.."

This is really true about Paulus. He has really regressed since he lost his starting spot. He was once an "adequate" point guard that led his team to ACC titles and the NCAA tournament. He is now just a shell of his former self. Like Les, maybe they should fire Coach K for NOT instilling confidence in and from his players;)

This is going to be one of the hardest big dance brackets to fill out this yr. No top 10 team has been consistent and has shown signs of weak play at times.

I'm still sticking with NC to win it all and Oklahoma and Duke to lose before the Sweet 16 unless they both get lucky and have easy draws and play very close to home. I believe by the end of this month the cream of the crop will rise and we will see which teams really have a shot. Right now things are just starting to sort out and teams weakness are really being exposed. Duke's weakness is their depth and talent at the 5. Singletary is a pretty good 4 but a bit soft arounf the rim and every good team has a man that can contain Henderson and their point guard situation is not of chamionship quaility. Can Coach K mask this, sure against inferior talent but against great talent noteven the great coaches can.

Paulus was never an adequate point guard - that is part of the reason why they have sucked the last couple years. He can't face pressure at all and just dribbles near halfcourt with his back to the defense until he passes to more confident players. That is why he doesn't start.

I understand Coach K has a problem with Paulus, but how can he say those things about his team when it's just his third loss?! Think about that. 20-3! He still may get a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but here he is saying he has no pride in his team? Boy that must really inspire his players!

So I guess using his logic, his teams are worthless if they lose more than one game. Amazing!

Or they lose by nearly 30 while scoring 47 pts (as a top 5 team), a feat they have rarely accomplished in his coaching tenure.

Did you hear him after the Wake Forest game? He was optimistic about the team and liked their effort.

I'm sorry, I don't agree. I always felt Paulus was adequate for Duke to make a run in the tournament. Duke's real problem has been that they just don't have the athletes to compete against these top caliber and athletic teams during post season play.

It's one thing when you can scout and prepare for your competition during the ACC season; Coach K is one of the best when given time to prepare and practice a game plan. However, when Duke is made to play "mano y mano" during the tournament with no time for Coach K to work his magic his Duke teams have major problems. They almost always lack quickness, size, and explosiveness on the boards.

I'm sorry bluedevil, but that's just "the book" on Duke year after year after.....

Like I said, Paulus is part of the reason. The rest, if you have read my many quotes on Duke, is on their lack of size and athleticism. They are basically like Bradley right now, except they go with Singler as the 5 more than we have Wilson at the 5. That simply doesn't work against bigger teams, and they get crushed on the boards and in drives in the paint. I'm definitely aware of "the book" as I have stated their weaknesses in the last few years more than anyone on this board.

Also, Coach K worked his magic in the past with little time. It's not like he suddenly chokes at coaching when the postseason comes around - only lately has the team performed below their norm because of the size issue.
