Fife in Peoria today

Just kind of thought of this after reading the Bob Knight thread:

Dane Fife Head Coach
Bob Knight Assistant Coach / Mentor Guy

Would that be a more attractive package?

I am no expert on this but from that article T linked, I liked Hardy from Northwestern. Smart, private school guy, great recruiter, Chicago ties. Sign him up.

hey -- I have no problems with giving the guy an interview -- if he is truly the best and MOST qualified guy we have who's interested, then we may just have to hire him....but that would say a lot for the supposed "strong field of candidates" we have heard about....
... but let's temper our enthusiasm to hire him on the spot because of his winning conference record

again -- I rhetorically ask....as we did in baseball and volleyball -- do we want to hire a new coach who has a career head coaching record of under .500 and/or very limited D-I experience? That's fine if nobody any better applies..but honestly -- we have to do a bit better...and the "atmosphere" at Bradley should be such that we should draw FAR stronger candidates...not saying it is but the atmosphere SHOULD BE

Yeah, if we hire this guy then why did we get rid of Les in the first place?

I am actually really happy that Bradley is taking a serious look at Dane Fife. IPFW is a school that has been at the D1 level for only 10 years. Comparing Jim Les's record at Bradley versus Dane Fife's record at IPFW is just ludicrous and shows a lack of understanding of the specific situation each school with regards to their respective conference. What Dane Fife did at IPFW would be like some coach coming into DePaul and making it a middle of the pack Big East team. This coach has a lot of coaching talent, leadership ability, winning attitude and outstanding character. He will be going places in this profession and I would love to see it happen at Bradley. I think a lot of folks are still too sad about coach Les to open their eyes and see what Fife has to offer. But you will eventually see. Hopefully, we will see it at Bradley!

JD -- I will bet dollars to donuts that I have singlehandedly had more posts deleted than the next 10 in rank put together...so I have no idea what the hey you can possibly be talking about...

He must be talking about me. 8)

Aw, you guys are amateurs....Set aside deleted posts... I get the impression I have seriously upset more posters here than both of you combined....

I have to be Forum leader in "PDPPTP" (percentage deleted posts per total posts)

On my way to a lifetime ban:!:

Jim Les would get skewered for losing games to the likes of Centenary, WIU, and South Dakota State....

Got to give JL credit, BU only lost to power houses Quincy, Eastern ILL, Wisc Platteville, UMKC, ILL-Chi, Tenn Tech, Bowling Green State, Lubbock Christian, Chattanooga, IUPUI, Central Michigan..... ;-);-)

I like the Big Ten assistants as well along with Graves.......that's one of the programs we are striving for

There will be arguments on ANY candidate, and there isn't a single candidate that is the "golden boy" for this program.

The administration (not sure how I feel about them, holding judgment until the hire) knows this, too, and is likely interviewing people they are considering to be a "good fit" early on... why sit on their laurels and wait for the NCAA-bound assistants to finish their season? Interview early, get some experience on what to ask... see what happens. Maybe they get surprised by how good a specific guy is. And if he "recruits" the admin, maybe he can actually recruit, too!

Someone mentioned that people here would even complain if Coach K was hired... it's amazingly true. Lets just hope the hire is someone off of that ESPN list, because there was only a name or two that didn't seem like a good idea.

Dave Reynolds' article Thursday 3/17-
Fife declines comment on BU coaching job
http://www.pjstar.com/bradleyhoops/x1707784050/Fife-interviewing-at-BU

Interesting to note that after reporting that Dane Fife was interviewing for the Bradley job, Dave now says-

Dane Fife declined comment on a pjstar.com report Wednesday that he was in Peoria and interviewing for the head men??™s basketball coaching job at Bradley.
The head coach at Indiana-Purdue/Fort Wayne told WANE-TV of Fort Wayne: ???I will not discuss a job other than the one I have. I will not discuss jobs that are not currently mine.???
Then late Wednesday, the source of the pjstar.com report backed off earlier assertions about the status of Fife??™s candidacy for the Bradley position. The source acknowledged no direct knowledge of Fife being interviewed.

WOW -- I usually like to give the PJS credit more than some here... but that's the 3rd (4th?) retraction they've posted in regards to BU Hoops in the past month.

FACT CHECK, USE TRUSTED SOURCES.

Don't be a message board, where speculation is okay. Or SAY you're speculating.

In reality, Fife was probably the only candidate (if they did interview him) that was available to interview at the moment. Others will be more available in two weeks or so as their teams get knocked out of the tourney.

But we don't even know if he was interviewed now, do we? Why hasn't the PJ Star contacted Fife?
It seems that Ft. Wayne TV stations and newspapers had no trouble contacting him yesterday afternoon, when he was reported to be in Peoria.

The Ft. Wayne Journal-Gazette contacted him in Danville, Illinois and he said he was recruiting (the Division II NJCAA junior college tournament is there), instead of interviewing for a job in Peoria-

Another newspaper (News-Sentinel) also contacted Fife and got comments from him-

And so did a Ft. Wane TV station-

The thing is, it probably wouldn't look too good if he was interviewing for another job on his current employers dime. If he is here recruiting, he's probably getting at least mileage and board reimbursed.

From his comments, He may not of interviewed. He probably did. He is at least interested. Otherwise he would have said. I am not a candidate for the Bradley job. I was in town recruiting for my program.

actually -- it appears that "gerry" our poster who started this thread yesterday -- might actually be the only source saying he did interview...
so did gerry actually talk to Fife -- he never said so and appears to just be speculating

but seriously -- maybe the guy was interviewed -- so I still think we can discuss it...
If someone saw Bruce Pearl in town we'd probably be talking about him being a candidate
