Final score- Bradley 94 Evansville 90 in OT

one of those games where BOTH teams are a bit upset at the officiating...

Meta & Wheels- massive games!!
Quan with the game of the year so far...

Final score- Bradley 94 Evansville 90 in Overtime
Stats- https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=611624

What an exciting game! For anyone who didn't see the exciting ending, watch the last 5 minutes of regulation and the overtime.
Big plays down the stretch by Jaquan Johnson, Montana Wheeler, and Meta Jonovic. Bradley comes up big at the end and in the OT, though they had multiple chances to put the game away before the final seconds. Credit to Evansville. Their two freshman guards Leif Moeller (26 piints) and Bryce Quinet (20 points) were unbelievable and every time they needed a basket, one of them provided it.
Player of the Game- Jaquan Johnson- 35 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and 6 steals
Montana Wheeler- 17 points, 6-9 from the field, 2-2 from three, and 4-4 on FTs at the end of the game.
Meta Jonovic- 15 points, 12 rebounds
Demarion Burch- 12 points, 5-10 from the field, and 2-5 from three

Bradley shot only 36.4% (12-33) in the first half, and just 14.3% (2-14) from three.
But the Braves were 18-30 (60.0%) in the 2nd half, 4-8 (50%) from three, and 10-10 from the FT line
And in the OT period, Bradley was clutch, shooting 4-5 (80%) from the floor, and 7-10 from the FT line.
And only 6 turnovers for a 45 minute game.

Another exhilarating, exasperating, mind numbing, bone tingling W by the boys of Brian. Hard to believe that we got away with that one with 4 of the 8 guys that played basically giving you nothing. JJ and Montana combining for 11 assists with no turnovers in a combined 63 minutes is truly remarkable. This team isn't always the smartest but they are so resilient and play their hearts out. At ISU Red on Saturday most definitely won't be an easy day but it seems like that's the way this team likes it. Pluck them Redbirds boys!

Great to see Meta have another good game. Will really need him to step up big time on Saturday against Chase Walker. IMHO we may come up short against ISU, but anything is possible. Hope after this year Jaquon is still at Bradley. Am sure teams will express interest in getting him to enter the portal. Jaquon if you read posts here, us fans want you to finish your career here at Bradley.

I will be writing a travel log about my journey to Evansville today, but a few quick points:
- The Ford Center is really nice - probably the best arena I've been to in the Valley; go there and visit sometime if you get a chance.
- Evansville just can't get over the hump. I think they are better than a few teams in the Valley but they just can't get wins
- Jaquan was so unbelievably pumped up after the game. Gave him a big high five as they went to the locker room. For someone who's relatively even keel for such a great player, it was a side of him you don't see as often and it was cool.

We have too many guys with zero points in the first half. I find it embarrassing to be losing to a team that is not very good. Two guys that start for us and are one and done players have a combined 2 points and that was our first basket of the game. I am a firm believer that if you are going to bring in players with only 1 year to play they should be much better then these 2 guys. Trying to figure out how we evaluate talent.
This HAS to be the toughest 5-14 team in the country! And they looked good both times vs. us. I feel about sweeping this team b/c we easily could have ended up 1-1. If UE retains these players, they could be a top half team in future seasons. Kudos to them!

1st half we played poorly for a couple stretches, but overall the Braves played well and nobody is going to hand you a road victory in the Valley!!
Can't say enough about our young PG tandem - a Freshman and a sophomore, who play like vets most nights!

Meta's play of late has me hopeful that we can be a contender! Without him, our guards need to scorch the nets, which is too hard to do consistently.

Timo's slap-out rebound in the closing seconds of OT were HUGE and iced the victory.

I know it's vs a team 1-7 in the league, but a GREAT win...that's 2 on the road and we need 5 or 6 to contend for the top 3 spots.
If we beat ISU-red on Sat, awesome! If not, we're still in decent shape.

Proud of this team's grit and poise in tight games, and it's usually the underclassmen who rise up.
We need some more guys to step up tho - not everyone is playing up to their standards.

I was very impressed with that Moeller kid - reminds me of Kyle Korver at about his sophomore season. High b-ball IQ and great outside shot. I don't remember him in the 1st meeting. The other freshman Quinet is going to be good too.

I like watching this Aces team play together and hope they continue playing the way they have lately and get some more wins now that we're done playing them! I really don't want to face them in St. Louis.

Evansville played their best game of the season. Sometimes even a bad team can play a great game - like when Evansville went to Kentucky and won when UK was ranked #1 but Evansville would go on to 0-19 vs MVC teams that year.

They shot 51% overall and 46% from 3-point, well above their averages.
Plus they rebounded well and went to the FT line 31 times
On the surface it would look like Bradley’s defense was weak but I think we actually won with defense- steals, forced turnovers, etc
If you can still beat a team on the road when they play their very best game, then it’s encouraging - especially after the losses at Belmont & Murray State

I

just don’t get why we can’t get Alex open for better looks. These other teams get their guys open for shots so easily.. we don’t run much for him either, and seems when we do we can’t get him open.
1 shot for him is ridiculous.. needs to get 5-10 shots per game
I agree that we do not screen much for Alex , he should be coming around those high screens at the top of the circle in order to get better shots. I remember Yu setting a high screen for him and Alex hitting a 3 but we need to do more of those plays. He definitely should be getting more shots.

I hate to bring this up again but the 2 games before this the officials did an outstanding job, last night the first half was good but in the second half they decided to call way too many fouls and the last one in regulation where the Evansville just lost his balance and fell down on his own was pathetic. The thing is they need to be consistent in their calls and each half was completely different.

Maybe Alex is not great at using the screens? I feel like Wheeler is the best on our team at using the Big man pick to either shoot from long range or to curl around and hit a mid-range, or just go into the paint and score a tough layup. The driving ability of our 2 PGs definitely opens things up for higher % shots.

Wasn't it? I'm so glad I knew the final score while watching the game on Replay or I'd have been livid at that call!

Wheeler is better at using BALL screens than Alex, but that has to do with what the defender thinks are his strengths......Wheeler can go right by you if you hug him, or hedge poorly on a screen..the safe bet is to make him shoot over the top. or at least I think that the defender fearing his speed gives him that more.

Alex needs to come off staggers, pin downs, elevator, flare...those type of off ball screens to free up a shooter.

We don't typically run that tho...we run him off of Iverson screen over the top but on that type of screen he usually has his back to the basket and is at an odd angle to shoot...its usually more to jump start our offense which is more a motion and ball screen heavy offense.

I think most of our offense is geared toward getting bully, Montana and burch headed downhill to attack or kick to open players.....

All that being said I think Alex has the ability to shoot a few more shots instead of passing up some...he tends to only let it go when wide open..sometimes I wish he'd just let her fly

I thought for sure we were toast when Evansville went into the bonus around the 11 minute mark. Fortunately, the refs caught us up and both team got into the bonus. Not the best officiating, but at least it was somewhat even in terms of the number of bad calls.

5 fouls on BU in the first segment of the 2nd half. Real bad stuff out of the refs in the 2nd half.
