New AD- Dr. Michael Cross

Agree.... As many people on this board know, I am not a fan of President Glasser.
That being said, let's give the new guy a chance!

I couldn't agree more--I am not a fan of President Glasser either, and it really concerns me that SHE made this decision alone. I guess time will tell...and I agree...let's give him a chance. Maybe we should start by all chipping in a buying him a razor

I don't think this hiring should be judged in terms of how he was hired, or that it was one person's pick, but rather by evaluating the man's own qualities and experience.
I have researched Dr. Cross' past, and communicated with people who are familiar with him. He sounds like a highly capable man, with years of experience in administrating athletics and compliance, and closely linked to basketball as well as academic issues. There is nothing in his past that suggests he isn't the best guy for a job like Bradley. And everyone who has ever met him or worked with him likes and respects him. He is even a midwesterner originally, so I would be surprised if he has any of the so-called Eastern mentality toward us midwestern hicks that some fear.
I think he sounds like the right guy, and maybe as good a hire as Bradley could ever get. I am anxious to meet him!

I'm with you Da_Coach! If I was JG I also would have made the hire myself. This is the 3rd most visible position on campus and as the CEO/Prez of Bradley why should she not? If he does not pan out, which I believe he will pan out, then the finger pointing starts and ends with her. Why trust anyone else when your reputation perhaps job is on the line?

I'm not a fan of her either. I totally agree with you Benni, give the guy a chance. Hopefully he will succeed, run his own dept. and great things will happen for BU. I think this can happen, by him standing on his own two feet, listening to the fans, his subordinates, doing what he thinks/knows is right and not kneeing at the feet of the queen and rending to all her wises/demands:eek: Thanks Benni for correct gesture here:!::)

I agree, let's give him a chance. Hopefully, since he's already a twitter guy, he'll join this board soon! :) My only concern would be the lack of clearly defined relationships which always are a must in good scheduling for our non-con. I don't want to have a repeat of this year where we're stuck playing only 11 non-cons with no name opponents at Carver. Since he starts JAn 1, he should have plenty of time to show what he can put together. We know WCU is on the road, as will be the bracketbuster, and we know we're in the Chicago challenge. After that, I don't know what other commitments we have. Does Butler resume next year?

Not to get off the subject here but talking about non-con scheduling and Butler, lord, theirs this year cannot be second to anyones:!: They truely fit the phase, Anyone, Anyplace and Anytime:!:

I was under the impression Butler dropped us so they could play in the Jimmy V Classic, but that we were back in next year. I have never heard that confirmed though. If Butler is back in, we need to schedule home games and home games only. I already think we're lacking them this year, and it's been evident by our dreadful play at home this year.

Sounds like a good hire, he certainly has a very good sports background. Welcome to Peoria and Bradley basketball , hopefully he has a lot of contacts that can help him in scheduling.

Love it! Post of the decade:):D:-P! I love the pseudo intellectuals living behind there layers of stone and morter, insulated from reality.
I will take "street-smarts, like yours dog, anytime. And yes I have a degree, but I have found street smarts are far more useful..
Being from Buffalo is a good start. Plenty of street smarts to be acquired there.
Good luck Michael Cross.
Great satire, Dog!

Thanks Grassman....and just for the record I WASN'T making fun of anyones "Degree" or the posters involved in the discussion. But my head was spinning and I thougght I'd dumb it all down a bit. :)

As long as he demands excellence for the basketball program, meaning CONTENDING FOR MVC CROWNS AND NCAA TOURNAMENT BIDS, then I will have no problem with him. If he cares more about graduation rate than success on the field, then we'll have a problem and those nice new facilities won't get paid for.

As a secondary note, I would also like to see a higher standard of success for our other sports as well. Facilities shouldn't be an excuse anymore as to why women's basketball (which appears to be coming around) and volleyball can't be competitive. Baseball should always be competitive, we'll see what Elvis can do with this recruiting class that's coming in.

One, the new facilities are pretty much paid for as-is. Two, I for one would not for a second sacrifice a lack of academic integrity for MVC crowns or NCAA berths. If someone ever allows a player to be recruited who does not meet BU's academic standards and is not concerned with helping them graduate they should be immediately let go.

I agree completely here. I would really like to see BU's other sports be as competitive as Men's Soccer and BB, especially Baseball. That being said I do not have much hope for Elvis, he is a nice guy, but he did not have success at his previous position and was only hired due to his connection with JoJo (if he has good credentials, I like doing this, but I don't feel like he deserved the job, let alone warranted the $$$ BU gave him at all).

Not so fast here amckillip. Elvis has brought in one of the best recruiting classes ever so I think it is fair to give him 5 years before deciding if he is a failure. Remember, some great coaches got their start elsewhere and never became successful until they found the right "home" (Coach K, Knight, Tubby, and others for example). Let's hope this happens here and Elvis puts BU back on the national radar.

I agree with your point, just not on Elvis. I have friends who play(ed) for him and I stand by my statement. I hope he does put BU on the map, but I'm not holding my breath.
