It is refreshing to see an AD make a decision and quickly hire a replacement head coach without going through a long, dragged out "national coaching search" or hiring one of those search firms that always push the same handful of retread coaching candidates who are clients of theirs. Their previous head coach Dana Ford was just hired by Missouri State a little over 4 days ago.

So it looks like Xavier head coach Chris Mack is going to be the next Louisville head coach.

Pitt apparently approached a pretty good number of candidates, and finally settled on a dark horse in Jeff Capel III to be their next coach. His history is interesting.
Capel played at Duke from 1993-1997, then played a couple years professionally in Europe. He started his coaching career at Old Dominion as an assistant under his father, Jeff Capel II for one season.
Then he was an assistant at VCU for one season, before being promoted to head coach at VCU from 2002-2006. He was 79-41 in his 4 seasons there. and made one NCAA Tournament, but lost in the first round.
Then he was hired as head coach at Oklahoma for 5 seasons from 2006-2011. He had a couple good seasons there making the NCAA Tournament twice. But his 4th there was a disaster. Despite a roster loaded with All-Americans and being picked #13 in the preseason poll, he went 13-18 in the 2009-10 season, the first losing season at Oklahoma since 1981. The to make matters worse, all 13 wins were vacated for the use of an ineligible player. An NCAA investigation showed that Tiny Gallon had received money to play at Oklahoma, however, the NCAA investigation did not implicate Capel. Gallon and 5 other players left the team after the 2009-2010 season, and Capel went 14-18 the next season, the first time in Oklahoma history they had back to back losing seasons. Capel was fired after the 2010-2011 season. After that, he went back to Duke as an assistant coach.

as soon as Drake's Niko Medved took over at Colorado State, the former assistant, Jase Herl, who was acting as Interim Coach there- was let go...
but that didn't last long...the next day Herl is now hired as assistant coach by new Missouri State head coach Dana Ford
Meanwhile Niko Medved starts right off at $700K per year - roughly double what he was getting at Drake.

Patsos is just 77-92 and just finished 8-24 this season, his 5th season. He has worn out his welcome a bit, and is reportedly not well liked by fans or administrators. Unfortunately, he is signed for 3 more years at around $400,000 per year.
There are rumors that Siena is looking for a reason to fire him for cause because they cannot afford a buyout. Another rumor is that they want to get rid of Patsos and hire Patrick Beilein, who has had success at Division II Lemoyne College in nearby Syracuse.
