Cubs Make Multiple Roster Changes

Well it is about time the Cubs changed things a little... Really glad to see Neal Cotts out of the lineup. I don't know too much about Jake Fox, but he sounds like a right handed Micah Hoffpauir. Good bat--adequate at best fielder...

It looked to me like Z went after the ump to argue a call that the umpire clearly got right in the first place. He then went on to throw the baseball into the outfield, throw his glove into the dirt in front of the dugout, and then take a baseball bat to the cooler inside the dugout. I'm not too sure how you can justify any of that, especially when I never saw the umpire bump into Z.

If you call that having "heart", then I'll take a team full of players without any "heart". Of course, I'm sure Z fits right in where they throw baseballs back onto the field. I've also seen many times where the fans will litter the outfield when something goes wrong. I guess it's a Cubs thing, but the guy could use some help!

IMO, it's about time baseball took action and suspend Zambrano for a long time. With his temper, some call it heart, he is going to seriously hurt someone. When he hit Edmunds twice in the same game a few years ago he should have been banned for the season. The Cubs should take some kind of action also after what he did in the dugout.

Lou said that he was going to talk to him today.

I'm sure he's talked to him before. Heard Lou on the Score yesterday and he was laughing about what happened. I'm sure the players sitting by the gatorade cooler weren't laughing. Get rid of the nut case.

Ok.. Carlos lost his temper and I realize the issue there. But from what I saw in the video on MLB.com, what Carlos did in the dugout was no big deal. I have seen similar actions many times from players who are now in the HOF.

Tell that to the guys sitting next to the cooler. I guess it's ok to destroy property because someone else did. I know that's normal now days but stop making excuses for him and face the fact that his temper is going to get him in a lot of trouble some day.

imo...Most experienced major league players know to get away from the water cooler when someone is upset about a play or after a bad performance... I am sure that there is some type of kangaroo court in the clubhouse to fine these guys for destroying property etc... We are talking about water coolers here....... We arent talking about a Juan Marichal situation. Didnt Mark Prior destroy Sammy Sosa's boom box in the locker room a couple of years ago!?!?!?!?!?!;-)

That's like saying I shouldn't go somewhere because I know what might happen. If you're on the team and there is a dugout that's where you belong. Again, quit making excuses for a spoiled brat. I don't remember saying it was ok for Prior to break Corkman's boom box. Although the rest of the team probably wanted to do it. When you throw at someone's head twice in the same game, IMO it compares to the Marichal-Roseboro incident.

I'm sure Lou knows better then anyone of us here on this board on how to handle the Big Z! You cannot castigate him because his competitive nature is what is going to get him ready to pitch every time he is on the mound. On the other hand he needs to learn that his temper has no room for a ball club that needs him to be able to pitch every time he can if they want to make the playoffs. It is early into the season and now is probably the best time for it to happen.

Also there will be quite a few call ups from different teams this week because some the younger better talent were left in the minors after spring break so teams could have another option year on them without them becoming a FA. This is about the time the better team start jelling to make a run for post-season and really start playing consistent ball. We'll also start seeing team start looking for trades that can help them get through the long hot summer. This is making out to be quite an interesting season. There seems not to be a dominating team this year so far.

I am not making excuses for Zambrano. Look at my first post on this in which I state that "Carlos lost his temper and I realize the issue there." I am talking about his on the field issues with that statemtent. We can agree to disagree, but the dugout outburst is just not that big of a deal.

6 game suspension for Big Z

So he was essentially suspended one game for that outburst? Actually only moving his next start back by a couple days. That doesn't send a very strong message. I wonder if it would have only been a one-game suspension for an everyday player?

Where and when I grew up destroying property was a big deal. I guess it's ok if you're a spoiled ball player.

IMO, the suspension should have been around 15-20 days.... But Z like most players, would have negotiated a lesser suspension anyway...

Lost in all this is that the umpire made one h*** of a good call at the plate by calling the runner safe. and...the umpire was in perfect position to make the call.

And before you were even born, baseball players were doing the same things or maybe even a little worse on the field than what Zambrano did to the gatorade cooler. The spoiled athlete is nothing new. If anything, Gatorade got some free publicity out of all this!;-) and I would bet that the Pepsi company would gladly provide the Cubs with a new Gatorade cooler to replace the cooler that Zambrano broke.

That's probably his excuse also. Others did it so I can do it. Should be 6 starts minimum, not 6 days. Then maybe the cubs would get serious about reprimaning him. Of course next time he gets hit hard, he'll have another injury and have to leave the game or sit out a start.
