Two Bradley Freshmen to redshirt

just read Coach Les' own words...
the players were given the option...they decided
"Ea. player was offrd opp to redshirt...NO ONE WAS FORCED."

Retraction coming-
From Coach Jim Les' twitter:

CoachJimLes-
Herd via BParker that there will be a retraction/greatly appreciated/I'm sure JP will b glad..mistakes happen! Pract/video tonight-24hrs! 33 minutes ago from web

There should be a retraction. That headline last night was BS. Come on PJ Star - You try to build up goodwill with BU by creating 'BradleyHoops' online, and then turn around and continue to spin things negatively. Just report the d@mn facts and let people make up their own minds. I know it's a lost art but I know there are still good people working there.

I just thought it should be bolded!

We are thinking along the same lines here...

Great post Bradleybrave:!:

to quote the group The Talking Heads.. Same as it ever was...same as it ever was......same as it ever was.......

I couldn't' resist-

I do like the PJS, one of the first sites I went to when I got a computer, they had a bunch of great Bradley Articles online this morning. The article being talked about, I guess everyone words things wrong once in a while. But it has to be pointed out to them like the posters are doing.

The headline was "Feeling Sting of Redshirting", referring to Eureka Hornets' Jordan Prosser. The secondary headline that ran in the paper today was even more negative, can't remember what it said.

At the risk of getting everyone upset....why in the world is everyone overreacting? It's funny, I read the paper, see the headlines and go on.
I seriously doubt JP had any intention of RS when he came to BU. I don't know the exact time of decision but I'm guessing it was basically at the last minute.
I don't remember anyone here thinking JP was going to RS.
It seemed to surprise everyone. I'm sure he's a disappointed some but if he knows his minutes will probably be limited then he also knows it's a wise decision.

I just don't see the reason to get all upset about it.

Agreed...a lot of GREAT articles today. And when you actually read the redshirting article, it came off very positive. But the headline was very misleading, and immediately put a negative spin on the article. Obviously folks at the PJ Star agreed that it was inaccurate or they wouldn't have changed it so quickly. Could be just one headline write with a grudge, so I don't want to paint with too broad of a brush (although I probably have already).

People are upset because the headline insinuated that JP was upset and hurt by BU's decision. Les had TWO Journal Star people there when they did the interview and he made it clear that it was 100% VOLUNTARY and no one was forced to redshirt, it was a discussion and they made the final decision.

People did/will/would have read the headline and assumed that JP is upset with BU, which is not the case. May have been caught off guard, but not upset.

I believe the subheading was something like "Prosser surprised about being forced to redshirt."

per Coach Les, there were misquotes and out of context quotes in the story - not the 1st time..

well I understand that...been through that too.

The thing is something is written one day and forgotten the next day by everyone except this board of course where they get beat for days and brought up for months.

I just don't think it was that big of deal.....if i was JP it would have stung me a little. I'm sure it's not what he envisioned going into this year.

The misleading headline does hurt, I think, because it gives a false impression that the coaches would force anyone to redshirt. One of the main ways I think the coaches try to sell BU to recruits is that they won't do that. If JP wants to battle for minutes throughout the year, he could have opted out of a redshirt. His choice.

Just in regards to ghunt's post above about WE at the 4...

As I recall there was a great deal of gnashing of teeth about WE playing at the 4 because he looked tentative and roamed the perimeter jacking up 3s. That contrasted with the beginning of his sophomore season when he played at the 5 and suddenly looked aggressive and confident. I think Egolf is a center and plays like one... and I'm doubting we'll see him spend much time at all at the 4. Also, the last real power forward we had was not Cellus... If that's a prototypical "4" you are a big fan of a 4-guard lineup. Cellus was 6'5 on a good day, and not a "big guy" in build. He was undersized, but more than good enough to make up for his size disadvantage. Zach Andrews or Matt Salley were our last good 4s. I think TB is going to be very good there, but he's undersized... MK could be a really nice development if he shows up as advertised.

Umm, I am not sure how to respond to this--Marcellus was a stud a in terms of build and was 6'7" but he had dreams of playing a perimiter and face up game in the NBA, but at the college level with his athleticism he needed to establsih himself in the post then move to the outside game as a gem progressed--down the stretch in '06 he did that and flourished. Salley was a 4 who was on record thinking he was more suited as a three (realistically, no, but he sais as much) but forced to play a 5. Zach was a 5 who was athletic enough to go 4 in those instances when we needed to go big. I am not sure how you can call a 6'6' guy (TB) an undersized college 3.

I agree with you lefty. To be honest I think most of the poster's on here was thinking there could/would be a couple RS's this year. The surprised was JP with out a doubt! I think everyone was thinking guards (JE & SED) was the best bet. But some may of been thinking MK as one. Myself I thought there was a chance because of the depth that there would be 3 and JP was not one of them. But after Sunday's game with JP only jogging 3 minutes at the end, with both AT and MK getting more playing time, it was a red flag to me! Not saying I was thinking RS but there was a message there! Well it was close to 3 with a last minute change of mine by JL and the coaching staff on SED. Not sure why not RS him because we have so many guards with 3 having point guard experience. Also as I found out you can bring a player out of RS at any time.
I never started a thread or post about RSing because there is at least one who have in the past when the subject of RSing was posted would go nuts

Yeah, (2) 200+ lb 6'3" guards and a 6'9" guard don't necessarily support your position there...

That would be like Bradley playing Milos at the 3 while having Andrew and DSE in running the point...

I don't if ever expect to see Jim have that lineup out...

Although I believe I did mention yesterday that it would be nice to have Anthony and Will on the floor at the same time with Will at the 4.

This whole 3 or 4 guard offense is just plain dumb. Why adhere to what everyone else is doing when you can make them matchup to you?

In reality, there should be times where AT/Will/Taylor make up the front line as both Will and Taylor can step out and knock down 16' jumpers.

Not only that, we don't exactly have more than 1 outstanding 3-pt shooter, so why play small?

You give up way too much of strength and rebounding.

Thanks--I think you put it much more succinctly then I ever do ;-)
