What's up with Mo?

I don't think Hayward will make it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I see Hayward as having the potential to be a Scottie Pippen-type player. Maybe even an Anthony Parker-type. Bird wasn't a physical player but Hayward is even softer than him. I see him maturing into a good # 2 or #3 complementary player..... a lot like Pippen, Parker, or The Hawk.

Don't go out too far on that limb.... you have him being a lot like anywhere between a top 30 player all time, a borderline allstar type, or a 4th/5th option on a moderate team..... so....

So why would you think he wont make it?

The only part of his game lacking is consistant shooting from long range. Unless he is lazy or gets hurt he has all the tools a basketball player should have to be a good to solid NBA player.

I dont know if he will ever be in the class of Larry Bird, but there have not been many ever who have achieved the game Bird played.

He may not be the next Larry Bird, for that matter what player will ever be. But he supposedly had a really good workout recently for his hometown Indiana Pacers who are run by Larry Bird so if you put 2 and 2 together I can see the Pacers pickng him with the 10th pick. I think Hayward could fall into that classic situation of being too small for a power forward and not quick enough for a small forward. However he seems to have a very high basketball IQ so it won't shock me to see him have a pretty decent 10-15 year career.

I love how we are so bored we have the same arguments every week!

It's just that time of year when BU basketball is still a ways off but most posters are still wanting to talk basketball. That's what is so great about ths board. Can't be bored when I see the post is from B4L, SFP or Ben. You have some catching up to do.

Ahh yes its that time of year again when all the white draft prospects are compared to white players of yesteryear. Oh this takes me back...

Well since he is white and he has to be compared to white players he is more comparable to Alvin Adams or Tom Chambers.

+1

I don't remember Adams, but he is NO Tom Chambers, IMO. Chambers was a power forward..... and I never see Hayward as a power forward.

Well he is white and can jump. Where is the difference between Chambers and Heyward? And Chambers was now where near as bulked up when he got into the NBA Heyward can and will bulk up... I dont see a difference especially if we have to compare white players to white players.

I guess Dunleavy is a good comparison but if we are going to use all the decent white players to compare to Heyward... where does that leave Babbitt? He is also white.

Bottom line is just because a guy is a skin color he doesnt have to be compared to another player of the same skin.

Honestly Heyward and his skill and body type remind me of Lamar Odom when he entered the NBA.

Maybe we need to turn this into a Hayward thread houston. I respect your opinion of Hayward........ but disagree. ;) Besides, I've never really compared him to another white NBA player (though I agree he is somewhat like Dunleavy but maybe more athletic). I've said before he most reminds me of Pippen or Parker in style and body type. If he plays anywhere near their level he will be a success.

Fair enough, just like the whole arguing about Eldridge Im bored with baseball and football is way off so I guess "discussing" an ISU player and a Butler player are how Im getting my bball kicks in June. :)

No way! Heyward will be so much better and has a much better attitude.

Hayward is a player more like Mike Dunleavy- pre knee injury.

Heyward will be a rich man's Mike Dunleavy. I believe he has a higher ceiling. One thing about Heyward that did notice during their NCAA run is that the kid did not mind banging, he wanted the ball and is a gamer. Those are traits that will get him far at the next level.

It's easy to forget how good a player Mike Dunleavy, Jr. had become.
In 2007-2008 he had his best season. He started all 82 games for the Indiana Pacers, averaged 36 mpg, and averaged 19.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg, and 3.5 apg. He was 48% from the field, and 42.4% from three. The next season, he suffered a severe knee injury, and has never been the same.
If Hayward can develop into that kind of player, I think any team would be happy. I don't believe his ceiling is higher than that.

Hayward drafted in the same spot as POB. So I guess that argument against Butler is dead!

Also, Kansas players go back-to-back. They got whooped by Northern Iowa in the NCAA's, who will have no NBA players. I guess maybe draft picks aren't the measure of a college program.
