You mean the same way she was 100% committed to her last job? The majority of ADs, unless they are at Duke and other big schools, are usually looking to move up and the same goes for most college presidents. Please don't start the historic nonsense. Pick the best choice after a search.

God I hope race doesn't come into this...

I figured that would be your reply. You are the only one who has mentioned race, don't put it on someone else.

"Though I believe the prez would hire the best person for the job I think the prez can also see an opportunity to do a historic hire, the first woman and black person to be AD at Bradley."

I am not the only one who has mentioned it. This is directly off big jimmy's post. If race is no big deal, and I truly believe it isn't, why does it matter if she's the first black AD at Bradley? What if she had three arms? Would we say she's the first person with three arms to be AD?

It either matters, or it doesn't. In this case, I truly hope nobody makes it an issue. If she's the best person, I don't care if she's white, black, hispanic, asian, indian, or from Bloomington... I just want an AD who put as much into the job as Ferg and KK did.

Doing the right thing is right - but not always championed by the drive-by media.

Doing the wrong thing stinks.

Doing things based on PC wins appraise by the Drive-by Media no matter if it is right or wrong or if it stinks or not.

Bottom line, in this society - PC wins.

Not sure but I liked this part:

ISU's offer was not substantially better than what she was making at EKU, so she declined ISU's offer.
But she did issue this...
"In 2004, Glasser took herself out of the running for the presidency of Illinois State University in Normal, Ill.
In a campuswide e-mail, Glasser wrote at the time that she pulled out because "I ultimately decided that
my heart truly lies with Eastern Kentucky University and with you."

but we know there was certainly going to be a time soon when she would leave EKU...so the difference??...you decide.

not sure I liked the part that said this either....
"Glasser's tenure at EKU was not without its bumps.
Less than a year after taking over, the university's athletic director, Chip Smith,
resigned abruptly, a move that Glasser hinted was the result of differing views
on the future of athletics at the school."

Yeah, I wonder what that means. I have a feeling she wants a little less "athlete" and a little more "student"....that's just a complete guess though. Which I guess isn't a terrible thing but I'm not going to lie, I don't want to become Evansville. I like Glasser, she gets things done, but I think she likes to have a tight hold on the unversity, and it worries me it might become a strangle hold. Athletes are going to drink and have parties, same as other regular students. You can pin that on the AD and then butt heads with him. What do I know though, really nothing.

But let's remember, Glasser inherited a great situation when she took over as President here.

Yeah I know she did, but she still did get things done. Isn't most of the money that has been donated towards this campaign (which apparently was already in motion before she came here) her doing?

It's not a big deal...I'm just stating that I like how our athletes are as is. They don't need to be more "student" and less "athlete"...I think we have a good mix. I also hope the hold on Bradley by her doesn't get much tighter because as a current student I can say it is definitely felt.

Did you read bigjimmy's post?

How about we make the issue - WHO'S THE BEST CANDIDATE?

That's what the issue should be, but what will be the reaction of many be if the person you obviously want to get the job doesn't get the job? I've met Mrs. Browning at the ITOO hall rally and was impressed. If the committee truly believes she is the best person for the job then why shouldn't we believe it also? Key word is truly.

After a couple of days to think about my post and the responses that came from it it's obvious that my thoughts were at best a little shortsided. You are right EM, the best person for the job should be hired regardless of race or sex. I still believe that Virnette would be a great representative and AD for Bradley.

A little less athlete would put BU back in the mid to late 70's. A little more student? Doesn't BU lead the MVC is athlete graduations?
