Not happy...

How soon we forget..............................

Careful what you wish for.....................

I'm happy with:

-- Competitive team each year with chance to surprise and advance
-- Exciting brand of basketball
-- Quality kids who graduate
-- Better than average team GPA versus competition
-- Well-spoken, respectful kids that show Bradley in a good light
-- Kids who generally stay out of trouble
-- Top home attendance numbers

Call me a sap, a homer, king kool-aid, or worse.........but I am not unhappy with the state of Bradley basketball. Sure, I'd like more wins, consistency, a conference championship, etc, etc. But again, I've been a Bradley basketball honk (that's for you Scouter ;) ) for over 30 years and have seen a lot of teams and Les' teams make me proud to be a Brave!

I'm not THAT far behind you B4life....even with my "doomsday" post. I'm just concerned we are not progressing like I had hoped or thought we would following the sweet 16 run. Its a fine line....BU has had some tough breaks with injuries and I DO think our facilities have hurt us with recruiting.

Stay positive....you are correct on many points. I'm not down on Les or our fine program...I just want more.

Were you blaming facilities when we fired Mo? How did we get AP, Phil Gilbert and Granger with those horrid facilities?

I agree as well Braves4Life. Overall the program is heading in the right direction and things have certainly gotten better since Coach Les came to the Hilltop, with that said, the development of our program has brought raised expectations.

Thats well said and its posts like this and some others that got me to say what I did....I knew you guys would have some good responses. My raised expectations are good yet unfufilled....just as much MY fault I suppose as it is the programs.

I would like to know how things have gotten better from Coach Mo to Coach Les? Aside being the last team in the tournament and having 1 incredable win and 1 great win how have things CERTAINLY gotten better?

It can be about doing both. I mean is this were the expectaions have sunk to? Does Creighton have bad kids? I dont think they do and yet the manage to win every year. If we were an IVY league school we wouldnt have expectations like we do and we woulndt offer schlorships. Now imagine we played in the ACC.

If we played in the ACC we would have more$$, more exposure for recruiting and of course higher expectations but we are what we are and JL and for that case most of our coaches have done a good job. I want us to win like the next guy but getting the best recruits to come to Peoria will take a Hurclean effort from all aspects of the University. No disrespect to Peoria but it is what it is. We are usually ranked close to where we should every now and then we get a few diamonds and sparkle. Have you seen the players that sit on the bench on the top 5 schools? REALITY PLEASE and be proud of what BU with it's hands tied behind it's back has been able to achieve.

Good and fair question.....without to much thought I would offer BU has always and probably always will draw a good player or two good enough to have us at or near the top of the Valley on occasion with a few NCAA appearances ever once-in-awhile.

What I'm looking for is sustained and repeated success with MVC crowns and regualr NCAA appearances.

Thats going to take more then your scattered AP's.....Gilberts......Granger......I would offer all three of them in ONE class and for repeated classes will get us where I would like to be. Unfair....unrealistic....perhaps but some 21st century facilities won't hurt IMO.

How has it had its hands tied behind its back? Creighton and SIU are in the same league. MSU, Witchita and UNI all have better records over the last 6 years. Why is asking for a top 3 finish in the league to much? Not first not second are we so hamstringed that we cant come in third?

I hope that you value your degree from BU much more than any other Valley school first of all, second our facilities right now are caught in a bad 1950s movie, third the schools you just mentioned are state schools that are bigger and have more money to put into their programs.

If how the sports team finish per their record is the only thing that you compare the schools with then we are not comparing the same things. BU is a higher educational institution foremost and the responsibility of the school is not to develop the best b-ball team but great citizens. I'd be prouder of the school if we had a Nobel prize winner then an NCAA championship.

Well this is a basketball message board thats what we are here to talk about. Also we are not Northwestern academically so to pretend that our high academic standards are holding us back is simply not true and for that matter Creighton is consitantly ranked the number one school in the midwest for academics so now we lose to them on both fronts.

I guess the difference is that when BU loses I do not lose any sleep. There are much larger issues in my life to get upset about. If Creighton is considered a better school good for them. I hope we can improve our academic standard. When I'm hiring for right out of school positions I do not look to see how their school did in the NCAA I look to see the quality of education they recieved.

I think attendance, style of play, alumni donations, and new on-campus facility answer that question Lakeview

Do you ever have a positive post Lakeview?

Guess why Jim Les was not on his WMBD radio spot Wednesday night?
Dave Snell said he was going to a JUCO game.to scout a player.
Gees, he already has another JUCO coming in next year, Chris Roberts.
Now with the 2 remaining scholarships, he is looking for another JUCO!
I agree with most of you guys, you build a program basically with 4 year players, maybe 2-3 Jucos if needed, to fill roles..
.
Maybe he knows, it is to late to build a program. He needs to win now!
That is why he is out scouring the innards, out of cell phone contact, for yet another JUCO
Personally, I am JUCO'ed. out.

I would prefer for us to use our last two scholarships on high school players as well grassman, but if JL and staff can land a big player who is a true 5 player who can contribute next year, then I wouldnt be opposed to using one of the remaining scholarships on a JUCO kid. The last scholarship would have to go to a four year player.

The attendace has not gotten significantly better since it was great under coach Mo and I think we had two home undefeated seasons, Ill take SIU's style of play and thier record please. I cant speak to alumni donation but I know for a fact the coach of the basketball team has nothing to do with the school getting new facilities.

Attendance is declining nearly everywhere, but Bradley's is holding strong. I think you have to give credit to the coach, the style of play, the players he has recruited, and the success they have had.

I agree, that this style of play is much more fun to watch. Bradley is very fortunate to have unbelieavable community support.

I love watching our fast-paced style of play, but like Lakeview said, I'll take SIU's consistent success over that any day. Seriously, outside of the style of play and a four-week stretch in 2006, how is the Jim Les Era stacking up compared to the Jim Molinari Era?

p.s. A belated "thank you" for the shout-out, B4L. ;)
