Transfer portal

Illinois State) Joe Petrakis transferred to Western Illinois

(Murray State) DJ Burns transferred to Youngstown State

What a significant step down for Burns. Either the music is beginning to stop in the musical chairs game called the transfer portal or somebody just wants to be the main man on a team. And I liked Petrakis' game at ISU and have to think that he wants the same opportunity the shine in his final rodeo.

I think it is great to see players moving to smaller schools sometimes. They either know they were at too high a level for their talent, or they desire to make a major impact at a smaller school. Signals some maturity there.

Former Illinois State big man Dusan Mahorcic, a graduate of Notre Dame College Prep in Niles, Illinois (high school alma mater of Jim and Tom Les) is transferring again. It wouldn't be surprising to see him land back in the MVC. Wherever he lands, if he does, he will tie a record for the most colleges and transfers in a collegiate career. His next school will be his 6th college and 5th transfer.
He had a pretty good year in 2020-21 with the Redbirds- 9.9 ppg and 7.2 rpg. But then he transferred to Utah for 2021-22, and to North Carolina State for 2022-23 and didn't play nearly as much, partly due to injuries-

Missouri State transfer Jonathan Mogbo, who averaged 8 ppg and 7 rpg as a starter, is transferring to San Francisco. He has 2 years of eligibility left, including his Covid year.

One time MVC player, Marquise Kennedy from Loyola, is returning to the MVC. He is transferring to UIC. Bradley and several other MVC teams were interested in him as a grad-transfer. He played 4 years at Loyola, mostly as a reserve. His career scoring average is 8.0 ppg, and his 3ptFG% for his career is 31.6%.

Noah Reynolds commits again, this time to Green Bay and new head coach Sundance Wicks. Wicks was an assistant coach at Wyoming for the past 3 seasons, so he coached Noah Reynolds there the last 2 seasons.

And, Noah Reynolds' older brother Nic Reynolds, is an assistant coach there under Wicks.

Now this is exactly where I thought he would end up after it was announced Wicks was hired.

The Portal Report
@ThePortalReport
Washington transfer Langston Wilson tells TPR that he will begin his official visit to SIU today!

SIU also reportedly has Josiah Allick, a 6'8" forward visiting this weekend. He spent 3 seasons at UMKC, and this past season he was at New Mexico, where he averaged 8.4 ppg and 7.3 rpg.
Stats- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/4593968/josiah-allick

SIU fans are discouraged by SIU head coach Bryan Mullins' inaction this spring with recruiting, especially considering all their player losses. SIU has not signed anyone from the transfer portal, and has not signed any new recruits this spring at all.
There was one commit in the early signing period last November (high schooler Kennard Davis).
They lost about 70% of their scoring from the 2022-23 team, and about 2/3 of their rebounding with losses of Jawaun Newton, Dalton Banks, Marcus Domask, Lance Jones, Foster Wonders, and JD Muila.

Here is their projected roster for 2023-24-
https://siusalukis.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster

Note that the only 2 scholarship guards on the roster, so far, are Trent Brown and Xavier Johnson. Both will be 5th year post-grad players. And Clarence Rupert was the only forward who was a regular starter.

Still plenty of kids out there that haven't found a place to go yet, pretty interesting it is taking this long.

Also interesting to see Mullens' lack of activity. Could he be using an alternative strategy? Wait until farther in and then try to grab some kinds that thought they could go to a power school but didn't end up getting offers or something? Idk

Evansville has nine players in the portal? That's most of the team. I hope they bring in some talent. They haven't been able to catch a break for several years, now.

One time Bradley recruit James Graham from Milwaukee Nicolet HS is leaving Missouri State and entering the portal. He played his two seasons at Maryland, but only appeared in 8 games his freshman year, and one game his sophomore year. The this past season at Missouri State he played in 18 games, started 5, and he averaged 4.2 ppg and 1.9 rpg in 19 minutes per game.

How are all these players going in the portal more then once because it is only allowed if you are a grad transfer or because of unusual circumstances. They would have to sit out a season after the first transfer which might be the reason some are not being chosen.

They will most likely appeal that their transfer deserves a waiver, but we'll have to wait and see how generous the NCAA will be with waivers.

Allegedly some are planning legal action as well
