Transfer portal

Allegedly some are planning legal action as well

If I was the NCAA I would fight this all the way thru the court system. There has to be rules and they need to enforce them otherwise this chaos will continue until everything falls apart which could happen in sooner then later.

I believe that ship has sailed away a long time ago. The NCAA neglected to monitor violations of the power conference’s programs, coaches and athletes for many years. It is really all about the money, especially with television contracts. I do not see how the toothpaste can be put back into the tube.

A toothpaste analogy from Molar. I like it.

SIU also reportedly has Josiah Allick, a 6'8" forward visiting this weekend. He spent 3 seasons at UMKC, and this past season he was at New Mexico, where he averaged 8.4 ppg and 7.3 rpg.

SIU fans are discouraged by SIU head coach Bryan Mullins' inaction this spring with recruiting, especially considering all their player losses. SIU has not signed anyone from the transfer portal, and has not signed any new recruits this spring at all.
There was one commit in the early signing period last November (high schooler Kennard Davis).
They lost about 70% of their scoring from the 2022-23 team, and about 2/3 of their rebounding...

SIU coach Bryan Mullins whiffs again. Josiah Allick, who just visited SIU this past weekend, is off the board. He committed to Nebraska tonight.

Impact of the portal:
Is transfer recruiting now more important than high school? For the first time ever in 2023-24, more points are predicted to be scored by transfers than by HS recruits. Here's a graph showing the year-by-year increase in production from players recruited through the portal

Valparaiso loses 2 more players from their depleted roster-- Little-used players Joe Hedstrom and Emil Freese-Vilien have decided to retire from basketball for medical reasons.
https://twitter.com/TVBOren/status/1648030109675188226
That now leaves Valpo with just 4 returning players for 2023-24, none of whom were starters. and who cumulatively averaged only about 10 points last season (Darius DeAveiro, Connor Barrett, Ibra Bayu, and Jerome Palm)....

Valparaiso loses another potential returning player for new head coach Roger Powell.
6'8" freshman forward Ibra Bayu from the Netherlands is now in the transfer portal. He played in 27 games this past season as a reserve, and averaged 2.4 ppg and 2.7 rpg. With the large numbers of losses Valpo has had, he would have been the 2nd highest returning scorer.

One more late MVC addition to the transfer portal- Missouri State freshman David Hill, a 6'1" guard, has entered the portal. He was a 2022 recruit who redshirted and did not play in 2022-23.

Here is an interesting case. Ohio State forward Seth Towns entered the transfer portal just before it closed last Thursday. What is different, is that he is seeking an 8th year of eligibility! He was a highly rated recruit when he entered college back in 2016 as a freshman at Harvard. He was the Ivy League Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2018. He spent 4 seasons at Harvard, the last 2 of which were redshirt years that he missed due to injuries. He transferred as a grad-transfer to Ohio State in 2020. He has now been at Ohio State for 3 seasons, only one of which (2020-21) he actually played, due to more injury issues.
So after 7 years in college, he's only played in 3 of those years, is apparently seeking a 4th redshirt year, and hoping to transfer and play one more year. I've never heard of the NCAA being this generous with already 2 and maybe 3 extra redshirt years. If he does qualify for another year, he will be 26 years old before next season begins. This ESPN article claims he could still have 2 more years of eligibility if the NCAA grants redshirt years for all the seasons he's missed, because he would then still have his Covid year.

The transfer portal closed last Thursday (May 11)- only 5 Division I schools did not lose a single player to the portal-
https://twitter.com/trillydonovan/st...89672945917953

Drexel
Duke
Florida Atlantic
Jackson State
Northern Iowa

Scheyer said he was going to change the way Duke recruits after taking over from K and it's apparently working. Not only did Duke not lose any players to the transfer portal, but he also convinced Filipowski, Proctor and Mitchell not to enter the NBA draft and Roach to return for his senior season. They should easily rule the ACC this year.

Murray State's Rob Perry had put his name into the NBA Draft, though he did not enter the transfer portal.
He announced today that he has withdrawn from the Draft, as expected, and will return to Murray State for the 2023-24 season.
https://twitter.com/robin_perry01/status/1658916087700889626

That is a big boost to Murray State. He was their leading scorer with an average of 14.4 ppg last season. He has one more season of eligibility left.

Will be interesting to see who finds the academic credentials acceptable.

I am sure just about every other university in the country. The same thing allegedly happened to Terrance Shannon, Jr. last year and he ended up at Illinois.

This tells some of the story: https://bleacherreport.com/articles...son-slams-coward-mark-adams-in-deleted-tweets

The whole story allegedly is that Michigan wouldn't accept his credits so I couldn't just transfer in. Which is what led to Dickinson getting pissed because they wouldn't let him take summer classes to then be a grad student.
